people need to feel superior. in order to do that, simpletons think they need to denigrate others to elevate themselves. the apple v windows/android allows that to happen for both sides.

human nature.

Every weekend was a trip to Frys or some crap website to download some driver, or the registry was owned by something, or all the memory was being hogged by some after market shit that Microsoft installed on me without me knowing.

My philosophy and mind set has always been: Use what you like and I could give a shit. I have used both, and I found Apple products to be far superior.

9 of 10 times when I hear some douche raging about Apple it's because they're too broke to afford it. Then they'll claim to not be too broke to afford it and cry about something else. Apple makes superior products for people who think differently. I don't believe there's a price tag that can be put on the efficiency of their devices and hardware. I would pay 10K for a Macbook Pro. I would pay 20K for an iMac. It's all relative. Over the course of a year, those products that allow me to handle my business in an efficient manner actually save me tens of thousands of dollars, and make me infinitely more.

When you're on top every one that doesn't have the means to be one top will shit on you. Bottom line.

see - everyone has different experiences...

the screen of my Macbook Pro died and they wanted almost $1k to fix it.

my biz partner drove 3 times 100 miles and back to the next Apple store to have his iMac screen, iMac HD and Macbook HD fixed. The 4th time he repaired his iMac screen himself.

meanwhile I have an old Toshiba and a relatively new Samsung laptop which both flawlessly work and besides replacing the HD with an SSD, i never had to lay hands on them

I tried working with a Mac but I have a Windows domain network in my office and Mac OS doesn't play well with that.

Plus some software I need runs on Windows only.

so what is good for you, is not working for me - but there is no "Windows is better" or "Apple is better" - it all depends

Well, that settles it. Apple wins.

Never said Apple wins. He said show something that an iPhone can do that his Galaxy can't.

Welcome to 2014.

Yes, we can make Wifi calls. In fact, that came in handy in Prague when I didn't want to pay ten billion dollars for International roaming charges.

I can make phone calls from my watch. Can you?

While I'm thinking about it... A few months ago a friend of mine told me about how happy he was because he got Apple TV. He told me he needed it to stream iTunes to his TV.

HUH?

Meanwhile, the rest of the world can pretty much stream anything they want to their TV. Surprise.

You conveniently ignored the second half of my comment because you and I both know you can't do that.

Back when I started on this board, it was me and Quiet using iMacs. He posted a thread at one point and I was the only one to chime in who was using a Mac of any sort for webmaster related business. Now I'd say that Apple desktop / laptop users outnumber PC users.

I had the first Android phone and lots of people here laughed at me when I said that Android would blow iOS out of the water in worldwide usage in a few short years. I was right on that one too.

I don't care either way. I use them all and will continue to use them all. Windows, OSX, Android and iOS.

ClickCastX 10-02-2014 11:57 AM

Anything apple seems to be overpriced behind the times - and these days unless they create something innovate will be left behind again like they were before.

CarlosTheGaucho 10-02-2014 11:58 AM

I don't care nor did I ever considered that as a viable topic for a conversation unless somebody went full messiah about their holy Jobs gear.

I even don't believe that the "tech differencies" would be worth a conversation, or anything else in that respect, apart from the fact that one is obviously more expensive (which is pretty much the only factual difference that's hard to dispute).

Guess it's really more about the way the Apple preachers easily get annoying at any given chance to support their team than about any actual differencies.

If anybody uses Mac, good for them, but don't make it a centerpiece of your existence.

Both features Android has had for quite some time.

Yes...here in this industry. Even before when design professionals were using Apple hardware, most adult industry design professionals weren't.

Morgan 10-02-2014 12:41 PM

I started on Mac when I was young, but as I grew more and more dependant on computers, I needed more flexibility and was sick of being jailed, so I went to PC and haven't looked back. I do have an iphone, but as far as desktops/laptops go, I won't touch Apple. Way too limited, not much room for expansion, not nearly as many applications, etc.. I still trip out that Apple only holds 5% of the market share though, I would expect a tiny bit more like 6-7%.

Funny thing is, he mentioned being able to do it...but, technically until OSX Yosemite is released, iPhone / Mac users can't do it yet.

Amazing. Once again something we've been doing for years and is no big deal to us is huge news to iPhone users. But yet still iPhone MUST be better, right?

That's exactly what it is - Apple users are much more vocal.

Android users don't get their panties wet when a new phone comes out, and we don't all flood the stores to wait in line for one.

There's really no comparison hardware wise. Apple's physical products (I'm only talking iPhone here) are better than 99.9% of all the smartphones on the market.

Rooted or jailbroken, anything Android can do iOS can do.

But the hardware...Apple makes a much better product than anyone else. And you won't find a major tech site that disagrees.

Sure sure. When I walk into the local mall there are huge signs everywhere saying "We fix Android phones". Besides the cracked screens you guys have, you also have reception problems, and now a patch that prevents people from making phone calls. Two years behind the curve, awesome product. Which is why only 20% of the population uses them.

A phone is a phone. All of the phones do the same exact shit. The difference is Apple Fanboys get their panties in a bunch every time Apple launches the same exact product only in a different size or color. "iPhones are the best, we don't need big screens" and then two years later you all line up like lemmings to get the bigger screen.

I see this all the time, yet anytime there's a discussion about Apple products, take Sly's post about switching to an iMac as an example, guess who's in there talking about how Apple is 2 years behind the curve and that Android or PC is so much better? :upsidedow

I have 4 PCs sitting in front of me. A 5s that I got with no upgrade fee, delivered on my doorstep, day of launch. And a custom iMac that I ordered online and walked across the street to pick up a week later when it was delivered.

I don't know shit. Apple sucks. End of story. Hooray.

When people talk like this, they really just leave out all kinds of things. "Better", is relative.

Is an entire computer better because some of its components such as its CPU & GPU faster than the same items found in other computers? Not necessarily because while it may do things faster at its core, the software or OS may not be optimized for it.

It's impossible to compare PC's to Macs without including lots of detail and about comparing 2 very similar machines. For some users like me, Macs are better because they do everything we want, and have few to zero support issues. Maybe the latest greatest PC is faster, but it my opinion they bring too much extra baggage which despite its higher speed, decreases my productivity & enjoyment of the product, and therefore brings down its value.

Therefore, to *me*, Mac's are better than PC's. Fast, sexy, clean, no baggage.

signupdamnit 10-02-2014 03:31 PM

No. Run what you want.

For me personally I tend not to like Apple.

-I'm a Linux user and I resent another proprietary company trying to lock people in to proprietary standards. It leads to problems in the long run but most people just don't see this.

-I think it's often overpriced given the technology.

-They practically use slave labor despite pretending to be a company for hipsters.

-I've used the iPhone 4s quite a bit and I wasn't really impressed with it at all. I found it awkward and poorly designed. It was nothing special.

-I owned an ipad 2 for a time before I got rid of it. I constantly resented the way they restricted me from working with the $500 device I bought. I think it's ridiculous to pay that much money and be told what I can and cannot do.

10 Inch Dick 10-02-2014 03:32 PM

I don't drink Starbucks coffee so I have no use for overpriced Apple products period

PaperstreetWinston 10-02-2014 03:51 PM

I agree. To me, Apple is inferior in all ways, except for looks, they look really nice. They seem to appeal to the people who are not fascinated with computing/technology, but just need to be online and check their facebook/email. Apple has always felt "inside the box" to me. I happen to like to be "outside the box", where sky's the limit. To me, Apple feels like prison. The Apple computer is for the not-so-tech-savvy who doesn't get excited about software and development. Though I do know a lot of coders who swear upon them. Then again, coding is coding and if you feel like you have to have a Mac to code, then you're one-track minded and that's not how a coder should think. Remember when people used to think Mac was superior for design? hahaha, hilarious.

SilentKnight 10-02-2014 05:20 PM

I don't dislike Apple products.

I just like everyone else's more.

tony286 10-02-2014 06:18 PM

Im writing this on a macbook pro. It really isnt a superior os when it only has to support what maybe 6 different models for which they also built the hardware. Windows has to support over a million possible different machine combinations. It would be interesting to see how OSX would fare if it had to support all the different possible hardware combinations windows has to support.

Also Apple makes its products good enough. Whatever is the least they can get away with in terms of hardware, that's what they will do and while charging a premium for it. I got the retina display because it was easier on my old eyes and at the time there were no windows choices. Spending what I spend for this ok machine , I could of gotten an OMG windows laptop now.

Yeah cause Tim Cook, who was at IBM for 10 years, convinced Jobs to ship all the jobs form Sacramento to China.

"Those jobs are never coming back".

Thanks for that, but my hands don't work so I'm not double tapping anything. This is one area I know well. :winkwink:

Going to write an email to Dragon about it. The Mac version is like going back 10 years. And they charge more for it.

I don't hate apple, but I laugh my ass off about people who let their phone / laptop define who they are as a person. Who is willing to stand in line for days to get a phone a few days before everyone else.

That stupidity and the whole arrogance that emanates from many apple fans (we are better than you!) is probably what causes some people to hate them.

*shrug*
