"Do that and I'm leaving."

This reminds me of one time I went to the movies with a group of people. One of my friends brought along a guy he works with who had apparently read the book that the movie was based on. We are about 5 minutes into the movie and something happens and he announces to the entire theater, "Did you see what just happened? That's the key to him being found innocent in the end."

That was the last time he ever went to a movie with us.

Pg13 was the worst thing they could have done to the movie industry, as far as the actual movies are concerned. I cringe when I see a new horror movie come out with a Pg13 rating. I've already quit going to theaters. 120 inch screen at home with 7.1 audio and a commercial style popcorn maker and powered leather theater recliners with lighted cup holders and I'm good to go.

Yup. :)

See any record stores or bookstores around? How's the concert business these days? Devastated? Yup.

Tick tick tick bye-bye movie theaters (as we know them).

you know what is an interesting dilemma with this, is that shitty flicks go straight to streaming/DVD, etc. only the "best" films get to be shown on the big screen. so i wonder if block buster new releases going straight to streaming, since the theater went the way of the dodo bird, would be a problem for hollywood? not to mention the theater outfits shitting huge bricks over it.

but i'm kinda with you, i do envision a day when movies are marketed and sold directly to consumers.

I'm to the point there there are only a few theaters in the right part of town that I can go to without listening to a bunch of little self entitled pricks waving phones around or talking or making noise.

Theaters really should have strict rules concerning cell phones, anyone caught using their mobile phones while a film is screening should have their precious cell phone smashed to bits with a hammer.

There is always at least one or two assholes who can't leave their fucking cell phones alone during a film who distract and annoy everyone in the cinema with their incessant need to check the phone every 10 minutes.

I read an article 2 weeks ago about some moron who climbed on stage just before a Broadway show was about to start to charge his phone because the battery was running low.

WTF is wrong with people!

$12-$18 depending on the movie. The best part is the reserved seating. No more walking in to a jam packed theater trying to find a seat. I go to the movies daily now because of it. Well worth it.

There is one theater chain that does the whole presentation before the movie "don't be a dick, silence your cell phone, put it away" routine.... which of course, because the world is full of complete fucking retards is then followed by a followup commercial - "follow us on twitter... like us on facebook... win free tickets and more!" type thing so then even more fucking phones come out.

Dude, no blood in terminator genisys. That sounds more catered to young girls and moms. Same idea as you point out, but worse really, the core demo is the entire family.

It is if you own the production company and can cast yourself in the lead role, and earn $20M in the process.

And limited blood because you can only have a finite amount of blood and gore in a PG-13 movie. Also only partial nudity (side boob, ass) and allowed one 'fuck'. Studios need the PG-13 rating so kids (mainly boys) age 13-16 can go to the movies without a parent.

if he's going to cast himself in the role, then he could at least try to show up and act.

limited blood in a terminator movie to make it pg-13 so to allow more viewers, that's what i'm saying. R movies limit viewers, terminator was dumbed down from R to make more money. the lack of blood was an example of that.

Record stores because of mp3s

book stores because of ebooks (although book sales did not decrease as much as you would imply or think)

Movie theaters do not fall into this logic much.

Concerts? People do not go to concerts? They do. Maybe less because there are othe rthings to do in internet age, but they still go.

Would you bet your fortune on that? I am down, if there is a way to legally bind a bet.

You mean that usual theares in US do not give out seat number when buying tickets?
That sucks. I often arrive late so it would be a nightmare without having seat number :Oh crap

That's too bad. Personally I *Love* going to the movies. Maybe its just your local theatre that is bad?

The big chain here is Cineplex, and they are great. Big screen, big sound, very clean. They encourage people to pickup the garbage left behind to take it when you leave. There are a couple of ushers with big garbage bags that say thank-you, and another to collect 3D Glasses.

Before the trailers run, they encourage people take out their cellphones to play a group trivia game. The question appears on screen and you select the answer on your phone. After the game is over they remind you to turn your phones off. It's a good way to get your attention and delver the message.

Finally there's another on-screen message telling people not to talk or kick their chairs, etc. It really seems to work because no one has talked during a movie or kicked my chair in maybe the last 5 years or so.

Sorry the movie-going experience is sucking for you lately. Try complaining to the theatre next time. As a business owner I'm sure they would like to know.

The concert business is booming. There are so many concerts here in Montreal and Quebec it's crazy, and tickets start at $50 for regular shows and $200 for festivals. And you know what? They are packed. Even $400 and $800 VIP tickets sell out.

Hmm... I would disagree.

Movie theatres are booming too. Personally I'm happy to pay $20 to see a blockbuster on the big screen. And big premiere movies like AntMan and other movies sell out a week in advance sometimes.

i'm in los angeles and orange county, theaters here have all the bells and whistles, reserve seating, loungers, all the different formats- IMAX RPX BLAH. we get the turn off your shit stuff also. hell, we can order drinks in a couple.

my point is that movies are so dumbed down for mass appeal anymore, that all the annoyances of the outing are not overcome by a great movie. i'm going to give M:I5 a go and reevaluate. not going to go see fantastic four though.
