This went on all night long until eventually fist fights broke out and the police were called.

It's dumb stupid how some people feel about this. This is the civil rights movement all over again; Twenty or thirty years from now people will look back and this and be ashamed of themselves.

then you might remember that gay marriage was voted DOWN by popular vote and a judge threw out the vote... right???

This was a 5-4 sc split decision. And according to one sc judge,

Justice Scalia in his dissent:

?Today?s decree says that my Ruler, and the Ruler of 320 million Americans coast-to-coast, is a majority of the nine lawyers on the Supreme Court. The opinion in these cases is the furthest extension in fact ? and the furthest extension one can even imagine ? of the Court?s claimed power to create ?liberties? that the Constitution and its Amendments neglect to mention.

?This practice of constitutional revision by an unelected committee of nine, always accompanied (as it is today) by extravagant praise of liberty, robs the People of the most important liberty they asserted in the Declaration of Independence and won in the Revolution of 1776: the freedom to govern themselves,? Scalia wrote.

exactly :2 cents:

Should she be in jail too or is this just more of the double standard?

If a lesbian judge refuses to marry straight people, she should go to prison also. Straight couples, gay couples, no difference.

Just because the majority of people vote on something doesn't make it right or legal.

This is why we have the Supreme Court and other lesser courts - to make decisions on our laws. In this case, the Supreme Court ruled that gay marriage is in fact legal. You cannot push your religious beliefs on other members of society.

And it's beyond ridiculous they jailed that woman

They jailed her and her deputies complied with the law -- the federal judge has released her on condition -- she was jailed in contempt of court :2 cents:

Quote:

The judge held Ms. Davis in contempt and ordered her to jail, and told her deputies to begin issuing marriage licenses.

On Friday, amid loud protests on both sides, and a throng of journalists, the Rowan County clerk?s office gave marriage licenses to six same-sex and two opposite-sex couples.
She goes back to jail if she fails to comply. If she has a problem with this because of her morals she can resign. She took an oath as an officer of the court -- this is not up for debate -- period
