the difference is: the average working Spanish can eat shrimps, gazpacho, salmon or whatever, same with average Joe canadian...how about average Russian from Rostow (if he is not engaged in illegal activity :) )?
these prices are so ridicolus that it often reminds me of some banana republic like Angola, where middle class doesnt exist, what do exist are rich, super rich and 90 % that are poor. and such prices are only for rich.

I've chuckled when saw "glamourous life" and "30 usd for a dinner" in the same post. Go try to get a good dinner for that price in Moscow. You'll get one steak, a salad and a cup of tea for that money. As about steaks... Check out the real prices in Moscow. E.g.: $7.5 for a gazpacho, $28 for a single portion of salmon fillets and $146 for Siruela and that's after the collapse of ruble (two years ago the prices in dollars were 2x higher)... Should I explain what the real glamorous life is and how much does it really cost here?
P.S. I've never said that everybody here has a good salary. FYI: 90% of humans can do a rough labor only. They can not think. This is not about Russia, Poland or Canada. This is about all humans of the planet Earth.

Show me the one. Please. As I told it already, everybody here has a "white" and a "black" salaries. A white one you can see in Wikipeda. Also it's being used to pay taxes. However, the biggest part of money is always "black" here. Officially it does not exists, so a foreign guy like you will think "WTF?" when some Russian dude with an official salary of 30000 rubles per month goes to the bank and pays $100,000USD in cash for an apartments (these are typical Russian prices, apartments in Moscow are much more expensive) or a 1/2 of that money for a car.

Unfortunately it does not care about it at all (tax evasion is a national sport in Russia). Even Gazprom (the government-controlled company) pays "black" salaries and that's not a secret for everybody. I'll tell you more. This happens on every level from our president to everyone. For example, it is forbidden to do business w/o registration in the tax inspection. It is forbidden to provide transport service w/o a license. It's forbidden to evade taxes. Sounds very strict, isn't it? Now go to any street in Russia and rise your hand. At least 2-3 cars will stop to pick you up and drive to any place you want... for money of course. Is that illegal? Yes of course, but nobody cares about the laws here (as long as you don't steal, robe or kill). In fact, doing this simple illegal business in Moscow you can easily make additional 1000-2000 dollars a month. And yes, that's not considered as a serious crime so you won't go to jail for that. The max punishment will be a fine for about 1500 rubles or so and only if you will be caught which is nearly impossible (a chance is one to a billion).
P.S. Man, you saw the real prices in Russia (food, apartments etc). Do you really think these prices will exist if the people here had no money for that? The problem is that you are trying to compare overage official salaries in Russia with the local prices. This is something you should never do, because nobody here lives for the official salary. As the curse from the old Soviet movie says:
Go translate it :)

Excellent, so basically all we have to do is wait and Russia will collapse on its own. If everyone is evading taxes then the government will have to cut all infrastructure or just straight up steal from people to keep running.

The income tax is about 0.000001% of the Russian economics. Educate yourself.

not really, as Russians also spend money in Russia (very often, not everyone goes to London), so the market is running...
I really doubt that Russia will ever collapse (even if, it will reborn soon), and if it will have crisis - it wont be because of tax evasion

The most amusing thing is that all the ex soviet allies that ran the furthest politically from Russia have prospered the most. Ukraine and Belarus stayed close to Russia and are dirt poor. I mean, if you're sleeping next to a big pile of shit it's expected that you'll get some on you :)
because the United States sent them money, taking them from their taxpayers.
Tomorrow they will ally of China, if they pay them more.
and they will throw shit in the US.
Are they allies? I do not think so...

do you have any specific examples of ex-Soviet countries that are/ were beneficients of US - sending money ?
very interesting:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaug h
usually in this world if someone is giving you money he expects to make it even more from it - by "giving" it to you and later coming for what is his.......

Do you know how many cafes, pubs and restaurants we have in Moscow? RestCon.ru says about 3500 (fast food chains are not included). The fact is that you have to reserve a place there if you need a 100% guarantee to get inside. For example if you are planing to visit a restaurant with a lady, you probably don't want to stay on the street and wait for a free place, right? So does it mean there is no middle class in Russia and the prices are for rich people only? BTW, the prices shown on the previous page of this thread are from a restaurant chain. It's a rather expensive one, but still it's just a chain. The real rich people don't eat in places like that :)
