It is tax deductible from his earnings, so half is gov, half is him .

Then be carefull on expiry as well as from which registrar you buy.

Sorry but here is my view, after a lot of "Ifs":

IF you do not have an important domain on auto-renew you are an idiot and therefore not my problem.

IF your registrar does not give you 30-60 days to retrieve the expired domain get a new registrar, not my problem.

IF your registrar DOES give you a 30 day grace period and you still didn't notice, you're an idiot.

IF this domain is tied to a site that makes you money then see above IFs - and yes, you're an idiot and not my problem.

IF I like you I will give you the 50% dunce discount.
IF I do not like you I will give you the 1% dumbass discount.

Fuck you pay me.

Honestly it was just one of those domains with expiration email warnings going right to spam. I am an idiot for not seeing it, absolutely, but really, if happened between me and you, I wouldn't kick you when you were down.

By the way, pornnerd.com seems to be squatted on. It would be a good name for you if you can get. Hopefully this isn't owned by "TheDynasty" now either.

We recently got one for Vacares. Was not a horrible experience but you're dealing with government bureaucrats so there's a lot of back-and-forth. Took about 6 months all said and done.

I trademarked my domain back in 1998 and it was absolutely worth it. In 2000 I had a competitor register 7 different domains that were similar to mine so I filed suit under the Anti Cybersquatting Act and he must have shit himself when he read the ACPA that had been passed the year before because he immediately offered to settle for ten grand and hand all the domains over.

Yes, he's being a total dick. He dropped his price to $1500, but I still said no.

Tonight he told me he will develop the site if I don't buy it. NO PROBLEM. I hope he spends alot of money on it too.

BTW He emailed me at 11:54pm my time, but still hasn't posted here in this thread despite having a 5000k+ post count.

Thanks for the tip. I was approached about it awhile back but they wanted too much for it. :)

As I said, I'd give the domain back to whoever had it in the first place. But would make sure to remind them to put that thing on auto renew! :)

Seems like a lot of frustration and time is going into something that wasn't worth 5 seconds of your time to put on auto-renew.

How much was the domain bringing in? Is the time you're wasting on it worth it?

Why not just move on, wait for him to drop the domain and then buy it back? In the meantime, go put your important domains on auto-renewal!

Once you let the domain expire is not yours anymore. Anyone who register it, becomes the new owner. If you want that domain back, pay for it, otherwise let it go.
As much as i would like to be on your side, this time I cannot do it. We all lost at least a gem during our adult game. Does this makes the new owner a thief? Definitely NO. We should learn our lesson and be more cautious in the future.
BTW: if you have a trademark on that name, that's a completely different story.

Perhaps, but there is another reason: Principal, and warnings to others to protect their property.

I could buy the domain back from him at his new price of $1500, but posting about it and warning others has more value I think.

The domain was on a server that was running a few small programs and housekeeping scripts. When the domain disappeared things kept running because it just fell back to the IP address instead. We weren't promoting it - it was just up as a service to us.

Look, Butler didn't just stumble upon Mark's domain and buy it. He visited one of his sites and purposefully knew the domain was expiring. He waited carefully to the right moment, probably right before the auction ended, and place a bid and won it. Then he contacted him and tried to sell it.

It's lame. He and Mark were high fiving in their Trump bashing threads. He knows who Mark is. He knows Mark's sites. The guy's a 2 bit con :2 cents:
