No Reservations was SO MUCH better than the newer CNN show.

It's definitely wrong, but in the end it's his life, which he has to live. I don't agree that it's selfish. I would look for another word to describe it: tragic, hurtful, regretful, sad, etc. But I can't agree that it's selfish.

Rich or super rich isn't the point. The point is money and fame don't equal fame, in fact, it's usually quite the opposite.

Super rich people also commit suicide, too.

You have to wonder about wealthy men who've travelled everywhere and done everything, at what point does your life turn into a rerun of what you've already done? How many reruns can you watch without eventually wanting to turn off the show?

There can be some of that, obviously, but this guy struggled with heroine addiction for years. That (any addiction really) can fuck you up and cause long term depression. Anyone can be depressed and see life as dark tunnel with no light at the end, thus, not worth living.

I didn't consider how much he's worth, I think it's ultimately inconsequential in suicides except for those truly down on their luck. I stated in the kate spade suicide thread that if I were a billionaire and hadn't given most all my resources to helping people and animals then I'd kill myself too.

We disagree on selfish acts. no worries. BUT. suicide is a huge massive problem and growing. you know that. We need to stand up to it in every way we can. Being firm about it NOT being OK at all ever is something I feel strongly about. I have reasons for that.

You don't have to be depressed to see life as not worth living. A lot of people have really really aweful shitty lives, a lot. Rich people can have really shitty lives too.

Someone like Anthony Bourdain who has done so much good work at some point might look at themselves and think I've done everything I've ever wanted to do and I've done it over and over again what more do I have to offer? Maybe he was just tired and bored with life? Maybe we'll find out more about his mindset soon I'm curious. Sucks he's gone he was truly unique, kind & giving.

Should someone knowing they are dying prolong their suffering?

They say suicides are up; with all the snowflakes out there I don't get why this is news.

that's a good question.

My feeling is that we all know we are all slowly dying and we're all suffering in one way or another so it's not really a valid rationalization to me.

Nevertheless, I know what you are getting at. In light of the suicide crisis we have, if a terminal patient is mentally fit, then they should not choose suicide just to avoid the human condition [of suffering this mortal coil].

You even try to politicize suicide you really are lonely, hateful & stuck in a downward spiral

For someone selling their writing skills, your reading skills need work.

What part of my comment even hinted that I was trying to be funny?

I'm seriously asking. Maybe he found out he had a terminal disease and decided to end it. I'm sure that happens a lot.

dyna mo 06-08-2018 10:59 AM

let's not forget about that stranglebation or wtfever it's called.

still suicide i guess though.

Strange as it may seem to some of you, being super rich and traveling the world doesn't equal automatic happiness or fulfillment. Strange huh? Let that sink in for a second, if you're even capable of rational thought.

I'm capable and I am no stranger to depression. In fact I'm willing to bet everything i have that i have endured far more hardships and pain in my life that he would have in 1000 lifetimes so don't come in here and pretend that you 'get it' and the rest of us don't because we are some how ignorant of all this.

None of us here have allusions that happiness automatically comes with travel and seeing the world and it can't happen if you stay in the same place. However having access to ANYTHING and EVERYTHING for a long time has its fucking access to happiness a lot easier than being poor does. If you don't think so than you haven't been rich or you haven't been poor long enough to 'get it' yourself....

I agree with you in most circumstances it is the most selfish act one can perform, but I also think if someone thinks they are about the be a burden on others then it becomes more of a selfless act.

I've known quite a few terminal people in my life, and although none committed suicide I would not have faulted them one bit.

it hadn't occurred to me at all until the other posters earlier pointed it out. But his age would make me think it might be possible. It's my understanding it helps achieve orgasm when that's difficult, like it would probably be at 61 years old.

just discussing, not assuming.

I hear ya. I couldn't sit here and argue against it in that sitch either. I would prolly feel different if suicide weren't such an epidemic right now.

I don't think having access to everything and anything makes you happier, nope. I know it's just a cliche, but that's why they say ignorance is bliss, and there's definitely some truth to that.

Statements like that make it hard to take you seriously. What do you know about Tony Bourdaine to make you think you've worked harder or suffered more than him?

Poor CNN ratings will just keep sinking. Parts Unknown was the only thing on CNN Fake News that was worth watching :2 cents:

Couldn't having access to anything and everything work to make it actually worse?

If a person is depressed or has some other issue that could lead them to suicide, sure having money and access could help them find happiness for a while, but then once you have seen and done everything it feels like knowing there is nothing left out there to make you happy could be worse.

Wouldn't be a bad way to go at least he went out high , if that's how he went when deciding to hang himself.

Fucker had more success in this life then all the posters combined.

May he find his peace, may his family find their closer, and I hope that this will all blow over with little repercussion and respect.
