Our border is a problem. No one is denying this. In the past - as recently as 2006 - Democrats voted for the Secure Fence act, including both Obama and Hillary. However, it's not a sudden crisis that needs to be resolved today. At the same time, we surely do not need to spend billions of dollars on a wall that will not solve the problem.

The efforts we currently have in place seem to be working. In 2000, 1.6 million people were apprehended trying to cross the southern border into the United States. In 2001, 1.3 million were apprehended. In 2018? Less than 400,000. That's a huge drop. Why should we spend billions of dollars more when less and less people are crossing the boarder every year?

The majority of Americans don't want this. Governors of border states don't want this.

Trump is making up a fake crisis so he can keep a campaign promise that is nothing more than a sound bite and a massive waste of money.

I think this is what is happening too. Plus, its a good distraction from the Mueller Probe.

This is completely false. Democrats passed up a bill with five billion dollars for border security. However, the money was for border security to address the actual problem, not help a former game show reality host waste billions of dollars to complete a campaign promise.
