no saffron...there is no deviating from the recipe...it is a very delicate dish you can not get the awesome taste if you do not prepare it exactly as I wrote and it must last 3 days (1 day soak, 1 day cook/fridge, 3rd day heat/eat)...

My Slav gf can likely recreate your recipe even while deviating for the aforementioned gluten. She's a pro. All she wants to eat is Borscht.
