Australians do controlled burns now, but the key is "controlled" and the past 4 years at least have allowed for very few "controlled burns" because of weather conditions. Also, the only thing that used to control the Abbos fires was natural waterways, rivers, creeks and natural damp areas, these are all dried up now

For every person that dies in a bush fire here, 150 will die in the cities from respiratory problems caused by the smoke. That's a number out of my ass but it gives you an idea of the issue, I don't think Sydney has had an air quality day better than Bejing in 6 months.

And with those respiratory deaths, it makes zip difference if it's a controlled burn or a natural one... same effect.

Australian Government has 75 F35's on order from the American Military @ 12.5 billion and two water-bombing planes... duh. When the fires were at their peak, our prime minister was in Hawaii and the guy in charge of emergency services was in Europe, both on holidays, they only returned because of public pressure. Australia needs to spend more on better fire detection, fire fighting equipment and more trained personnel ... F35's can wait.

Anyways weather has cooled a bit and there has been some light rain, it won't stop the fires but it does give the firefighters some relief.

... Next up is Cyclone season in Northern Australia.

Our Navy should be called in if not already, it's amazing what an Aircraft Carrier can do in support in a harbor like they did in the Philippines

the fire fighters went sans gear, blow the fires out with sonic booms :winkwink:

Absolutely ridiculous. Both should hang their heads in shame...

Perfect time for a holiday, wow :disgust .
Hopefully Aus ppl remember this when they're voting next election

OneHungLo 01-08-2020 11:00 AM

What does voting have to do with arsonists?

Ridiculous here, is how Murdoch media is desperately trying to spin this because Rupert's appointed leader has totally fucked up. You can follow the propaganda spin by reading a few Murdoch clucks posts on this board. The right wing deniers need their morning briefing..

What they don't realise is even the Murdoch machine is backing down because he knows that's not going to get him another leader appointed.

How Rupert Murdoch Is Influencing Australia’s Bushfire Debate
Critics see a concerted effort to shift blame, protect conservative leaders and divert attention from climate change.

Unfortunately there are also plenty of scammers out there who exploit this horrific situation. Anyone sending donations should only give to well known charities, family and friends or others who have been fully vetted.

Good luck to MrBaldBastard and others living in Australia.

BaldBastard 01-08-2020 05:43 PM

Donations are great and help the communities and individuals that are affected.

But the reality is Australia has plenty of money, it's just up to the federal and state governments to use it.

Eg: My state has just pledged another Billion dollars to help rebuild the communities that were lost which is AWESOME! Considering they spent most of 2019 explaining why they were investing a billion in a football stadium and are blowing more than 50 billion on new roads, bridges and tunnels.. so more cars can hit the tolled roads..

Half a billion spent on prevention would have made a lot more sense but of course, that doesn't get votes unless people are dying.

Heres Government stupidity:

Australia has 100 F35's on order: "Part of the Government’s $200 billion build up in Defence capability"

https://www.defensenews.com/global/a...stralian-soil/
--

Australia has two water-bombing planes on order: In fact, states had to fight the federal government last year for 11 million in funding for firefighting down from the 50 million they were asking for.

https://www.smh.com.au/politics/fede...03-p53onl.html

.. Straylia!

Australia's trade surplus widened to $5.8 billion in November, with the 42 per cent increase fuelled by higher mining exports.

.rolling in money, all we have to do now is get the fuckers to spend it on the population and not 20 Billionaire friends.

Camels drain all the water from distressful soil of Australia.

BaldBastard 01-09-2020 02:53 AM

Camels, you understand, are about as Australian as polar bears...

lock 01-09-2020 03:15 AM

Australia is full of feral animals it actually pisses me off to hear word wild used in media instead of feral when it comes to deer , rabbits , pigs, goats, camels horses and the carp just breeding like crazy.
