Patient 1 in Italy is out of intensive care after 3 weeks.

Which is a very good news.

But also, you better put things in context:
he is 38, healthy, no previous disease, marathon runner.
And his pneumonia took 3 weeks to get out of intensive care, will remain in hospital for another 2-6 weeks and long term damage is unknown at this stage.

But hes not dead.

I agree. If we make it through the summer, we might be in trouble come oct-nov when the when the cold and flu season starts.

We can only pray for a vaccine. Which makes me wonder how many people would die if we didn't have a flu vaccine? I read it's around 40% of the population get the flu vaccine every year. That's around 120 million people.

Personally I don' t follow that sector, but that whole "never try to catch a falling knife" comes into play, for me at least. I really don't think this is like a bad earnings quarter type of play. The chances of getting this under control anytime soon doesn't look good.

I was just looking at the pounding these stocks have had. Most are down 50-60% in the last month. Can these the cruise lines survive without passengers for a year or 2?

Some of these cruise lines could go tits up.

if this continues as a seasonal thing, killing more than the flu each year we are going to see a big drop in life expectancy.

people are desensitized, they have seen scares come and go so the vast majority just shrug their shoulders and go on with life but lets remember this is not the last time we are going to see something like this. there will be other viruses, possibly more deadly in the future. lets hope a vaccine gets put out (safely) sooner than later. There are a lot of people with a lot of life left that if they get covid-19, they will most likely die.

Fact is, anyone can die from this. If your immune system goes overload trying to fight this and you don't get medical attention in time, your organs are destroyed and you die. if you look at the chinese stats are there are a few hundred people in their 30-40's that have died.

Jeezus.

And at the other end of the scale I heard an interview the other night with a healthcare nurse who said she tested positive but her symptoms were so mild she thought it was just a slight cold and didn't think of getting tested for a while.

This virus is all over the map when it comes to how it reacts on people.

i guess this explains all the data and rumours around ICU being overloaded quickly

After yesterdays news of shutting down schools, all events and the PM may have it people are in full panic here in Ottawa. Stores are insane. Hour long waits to checkout. People offering to spray hand sanitizer when you enter a store. Strange Days indeed.
