I drove a truck at night from Ladysmith to Parksville to drop off newspapers for distribution, would drive home at 3-4 AM and many times I saw packs of people on bicycles towing multiple shopping carts full of shit towards downtown Nanaimo... like crackhead caravans of stolen goods headed for the mall homeless camp! It was insane!

In 2018 I was renting a tiny self-contained studio in Ladysmith for $550 a month, it was perfect for me as every weekend or every other weekend I would go back to Vancouver to see my kid and baby momma...

In 2023 that same $550 studio is now $1200!!!
