Don't ASSume no one here knows photography, MANY people know that I filmed movies for http://www.screengemsstudios.com for 11 years.

Except I admit, I didnt use "Real" cameras, mine were Arri cams and cost around $50,000 usd a piece.

It's Photoshopped, your ranting shows no evidence at all, and I have shown MORE then enough to show it is NOT a real image from a camera.
If your stacking MULTIPLE images onto 1 image, then yes, it would take a long time and it IS possible, but that is not what was done on the above image.

Also the competition was for the Best photograph, not best 10 photographs merged into 1.

She had said that this was ONE picture that she did. I was showing that THIS image could NOT have been done with ONE image as she herself stated.

Your reply shows you still don't have a clue about this method

It's not about aperature, or fstop, it's about EXPOSURE !!!

We're talking still photography here, NOT videography (which I'm assuming you're well versed in). What does your film experience have to do with still photography techniques ? Yes, they're similiar, but very different in what you can achieve with them.

Look 2-3 issues back in "ShutterBug" magazine and there is a great article on Light Painting. You cant light paint with video cameras dude, that's why you're experience is irrelevant to this discussion.

Like I said, anyone with real photography experience can see how this is done.

*edit: 50 opinions out of the ass!*

Yes we covered the exsposure time, and as I said, with ONE photo with 10 seconds of exsposure, her WHOLE image would be blurred.

WRONG !

In darkness, she would only be visible in the picture from the initial strobe fire. For the rest of the exposure, only the flashlight beam would be visible.

The image is a fake.

alter ego with the same exact ip?

You can see people's IP's on the board? I only ever post using this account. I have no alias's. Are you on some kind of drugs?

I've never said what you say I said. I know how the pic was done because I've done similar photographs.. none that worked out quite so well, but I've never put in as much effort.

I know for a fact that it IS possible. And anything you try to tell me will ever convince me otherwise.

Illicit 05-04-2004 01:16 PM

I dont know if its a fake or not, all I know is its a bad ass pic and I voted for it !

This part of the contest was based on originality and creativity wasnt it? Or did I misunderstand the mission of these pics.

You were filming on Dawson's Creek? So, then you know my friend Pam Parker?

VideoVoyeur 05-04-2004 02:04 PM

Lance, call your friend ask her about me, if she WAS at SGS then she would know of me. And yes, Dawson's creek, A Walk to Remember and a few others.

Actually, when Randy and I tangoed I was still living in Wilmington.

I actually haven't spoken to her in a couple months, just wondering if you knew her.

VideoVoyeur 05-04-2004 02:13 PM

There's almost 2,000 employees at SGS, everything from waiters to bus boys to directors to hairstylists.

I may know of her , I may have talked to her, but when you deal with so many people, it's hard to keep track of people.
The only people that EVERYONE knows are the filmers, directories, Best Boys and Gaffers, because without them, there is nothing.

She was a script supervisor, so you should most likely know her...I know she did some writing for the "Wasteland" tv series too.

I honestly think its alot of photoshop, the lines look to perfect to be written that large and in the air without seeing them.

Oki smarty, I'll explain you something you dont know...

If you are in a dark room, and send the flashlight ( that I taped with black tape to be sure it wouldnt spray on me) toward the camera you dont see the rest of the body, the light was too soft to show my body. In fact, I should show the rest of the pics to proove you my point...

what, thats large? its a flashlight, not a match. I also tried with a glow stick but it was not enough light.

"But I want to explain how I did it, it was not edited in photoshop...First, it was a 10 second exposure on a digital camera. I hold the pose, and the camera take the picture with the flash. There is 9 seconds left, so I start writting the letters in the air, with a small flashlight, in an completly dark room. The light is so soft that we dont see the ghost of my arm or body moving. So, the camera took both me and the light in the same time. its pretty simple but needs lots of tryings... "

None of you knows how to operate a camera (a REAL camera) if you don't think this is real.

I can see it plain as day:

Room, pitch black.

Set the exposure to "Bulb".

Fire the first shot with a strobe, capturing the initial image of the model (flashlight is off)

Room is again pitch black.

Turn the flashlight on, start with the G, and work from right to left. (you can clearly see the "Y" is trailing out of the frame. This is where she exited the exposure)

Once she leaves out of the framing, you then release the shutter and the exposure is complete.

It would take several tries, but this is CLEARLY done by photography methods.

GFY to all you assholes talking shit because of a well thought-out & hahahahahahahad photo !!

here are the failed attempts.

I am so pissed! I spent 2 hours on that challenge, and there is still people to shit on my work. Yes I am a graphic deisgner, and the only thing it helped me with, is the creativity to find a good ARTISTIC idea.

Thanks to everybody who liked it, and especially to the photographers...

Loved the picture and I'm going to have to try this trick sometime cause I've done something like this before by accident in a dark room but this could be a cool idea to try

My hat goes off to you and your photographer Misty! Awesome idea for this contest and you will get my vote when I get around to voting :thumbsup
