didnt it say doctors were writing perscriptions for them? it seems to me like they were buying them and marking up the price somehow. i dont see how the companies would lose $ from that, they would only be selling more drugs for the people who are addicted to them.

who wouldn't - unfortuneately for your argument - DEA has nothing to do with Local Police, FBI, Customs, Postal Service and INTERPOL who investigate child porn.

Anyone know of any companies that were affected?

Lets say the pharmaceutical companies sold 20 billion valiums a year through legit prescriptions.. and another 5 billion through internet companies that didnt check prescriptions.. all it boils down to for the pharm companies is , an extra 5 billion in sales.. if they reported them , it would mean they sell 5 billion less.

You would have a point if most of the customers were legit patients with an existing prescription already, but i dont think thats very likely."

wrong. the dea setup the taskforce which is funded partially by the pharma companies because they were loosing sales to offshore generic suppliers which allow there drugs to be sold dirt cheap and the pharmacies use the USA brand names to sell the generics......This is all fact.

they sell the same amount of drugs either way - people need them - it's just at less profit though the internet.

Glad i don't take any of that crap!

Sad for the people who are truly in pain, though, they need affordable stuff.

Maybe one day the US will have a healthcare system without ripoff drug dealers. It's sad.

I would have to argue that with you..

Your saying everyone who is currently buying narcotic drugs off the internet , would normally buy them from the pharmacy .. i highly doubt that. I would guess more than half of internet drug purchases are for people who otherwise wouldn't take the medication.

hmm did you read the article ??
--------------
"Mr. Saran, 43, of Arlington is described as the ringleader of a scam that officials said included duping prescription drug wholesalers into selling him and his cohorts painkillers, diet pills, anti-anxiety drugs and drugs containing codeine, among others, at deep discounts reserved for legitimate businesses selling to hospitals and other institutions. "
---------------------
they didnt buy the drugs from any "generic" drug supplier. They setup a fake drug company , bought the drugs from regular drug companies like ELI LILY and sold them for twice what they are worth..

Your right on one part though , drug companies rely on their patents to overcharge people, if the internet is unregulated , people can just copy their recipe and sell the drug for peanuts, a drug that might cost billions to develop.

Thats exactlt why the government can't get into drug making. They dont have the patience or money to spend billions on developing drugs .
