winemaker's notes:

"Barruol is a sharp guy who realizes that even though he was born, raised, and has his home vineyard in Gigondas, the greatest appellation of the southern Rhone is Chateauneuf du Pape, not Gigondas. He has access to some fabulous old vine Grenache plots, mixed with about 20% Mourvedre, from such sites as La Crau and Valoris. His outstanding, deep ruby-hued 2003 Chateauneuf du Pape exhibits elegant sweet cherry and briery notes intermixed with Provencal herbs, ground pepper, and earth in a full-bodied, layered, moderately tannic format. It will benefit from 1-2 years of cellaring, and should keep for 10-12 years."

The problem with Chateauneuf du Pape is thats its an area not just a single vineyard as many think.

It produces some stunning wine - but there is some crap around that uses the name as well. Its like saying all Champagne is good Champagne.

My favorite red wine would be a 1994 or a 1995, hell maybe it was a 1996 Silver Oak, Napa Valley line not Alexander.

There are some stipulations though, it must be consumed between RRRed and I only. RRRed must walk into the sliding glass door and spill half of her glass on the white carpet of a house that is going on the market the next day;)

LOL good times...good times!
