It was me fool :P same that mentioned most of those you mention, like Franck Black, Santiago, Kevin Shields and such :winkwink:

Buckethead

I've been playing guitar for ever and I love most of the players mentioned here. Pete Townshend is the reason I play so I definately like old school rock.
That said the guitar players of today have insane technique that the previous generation would have sold their souls for.

I cast my vote for BUCKETHEAD, He is the most original and inovative guitarist of this generation.

You had Jimi H: Paradigm shifter When he played all the other guitarists went, WTF?
You had Eddie VH: Paradigm shifter When he played all the other guitarists went, WTF?
Then there were a buch of fast guys like Yngwie and Satch, they were great but they did not create a paradigm.
Now there is BUCKETHEAD: Guitarists are saying WTF? again he is a Paradigm shifter.

BTW, I know most of you haven't heard of him. Perhaps you should check him out.

jollyperv 08-07-2008 12:55 PM

Fuck technique, rock and roll is about fucking SOUL

Chuck Berry, Angus Young, and Pete Townshend come to mind but I can think of many more.

BUCKETHEAD's got much feeling and soul in his playing it just goes by too fast for some people to hear.

jollyperv 08-07-2008 01:18 PM

Just checked him out, he's definetely doing his own thing

Can't agree more, i know Buckethead is great but there are tons like him.

What about David Gilmour?, I think no one mentioned him. He doesn't have the best technique I know, but his solos definitely shake your soul, and that's what counts at the end of the day, right? Same reason why I don't like Yngwie. :2 cents:

Everyone in the thread is correct, so much is about personal taste

May favorites

SRV
Jimmi Hendrix
Mark Tiarra

OK..OK...2 legends and a really good friend :)

But he really can play

CunningStunt 08-07-2008 02:24 PM

Lmfao @ buckethead DAMNMAN. I think it's Satriani in a wig and a bucket on his head. He certainly plays to the beat of his own drum.

jgabra62 08-07-2008 02:32 PM

How the hell could you leave SLASH of this list?!!

CDSmith 08-07-2008 02:46 PM

3 pages and unless I missed it no one has mentioned Mark Knopfler yet.

Amazing.

campimp 08-07-2008 03:16 PM

Trey Anastasio

Marcus Aurelius 08-07-2008 03:28 PM

Amazing.

You have proved yourself to be quite musically defunct. Thanks for your posts, they were very amusing. Dire Straits :1orglaugh

Eric Clapton (0%, 0 Votes)

TTiger 08-07-2008 09:41 PM

john petrucci and paul gilbert are ultimate shredders

LeRoy 08-07-2008 09:55 PM

SRV is the best one if I had to choose. Jimi is up there too.

If you're talkin home town homies then my buddy Trav is the man. Heres a little grainy clip I took at some dive bar in HB

Here's the clip hope you like it as much as I do.

split_joel 08-07-2008 10:07 PM

there is no question and if anyone thinks otherwise then they need to learn what music is. Eric Johnson is by far the best guitarist to date.

webmasterchecks 08-07-2008 10:10 PM

hendrix is the correct answer

Sorry, that guy is a soul-less fucking dweeb

NYRangers 08-08-2008 01:22 AM

I missed this for some reason and I could go off on a tangent about a hundred guitarists. But there is one guitar player that is my favorite musician of all time. Ritchie Blackmore is incredible but Steve Harris as a bass guitar player to me is the best rock guitarist of all time. Because bass guitar is still guitar :)

CunningStunt 08-08-2008 03:14 AM

Great response to this thread.

I'm surprised as to how many Rhoads fans there are in here. The guy was only 25 or so when he died, but yes, he did kickstart a lot of styles / copycats.

Eric Clapton (0%, 0 Votes)

Riight. Knopfler isn't known for his guitar prowess whatsoever.

One of us is musically defunct, and the newsflash here is it isn't me chum. :1orglaugh

No one as bias as you should even be running such a list. :2 cents:

CDSmith 08-08-2008 06:07 AM

Btw, Clapton: 0 votes.... that may be indicative of the amount of traffic your page is getting (lol), or it may mean that although I said he deserves to be included in the list (which he does) I voted for someone else, probably... and try to follow along here son.... because I think someone else is better.

Also btw, the term you're using on that page, "Stunt" guitarist.... that can be confusing to some. Stunt? Isn't there a difference between a stunt guitarist and the best rock guitarist of all time? I went on the premise of your thread title, but for "stunt" guitarist I imagine a guy who not only can play insanely but moves around the stage like a wildman. If that's the case Eddie Van Halen wins hands down I would think, followed by Pete Townsend.

If you're going to run any list like this and ask for people's opinions you'd be far better off keeping an open mind and let the people decide who should be on the list, instead of arguing and tainting the mix with your personal bias. Just a suggestion friend, no need to get panties twisted over it.

Cheers.

maalox 08-08-2008 08:30 AM

I'm liking Satriani,Vai and Gary Moore lately

Yeah it's kinda surprising, but not totally. He came along at the right time and was just that good. He was young but had already been teaching at age 16, so plenty refined by the time he joined Ozzy.

Nahhh... they sound so different if it was him it would be an amazing stunt. To be able to change one's sound/style that completely is next to impossible.

Hey thanks! I play a mean butt trumpet too.

Mr Pheer 11-13-2008 02:27 PM

I didnt see John 5 mentioned anywhere. He's not the best but he is very versatile and definately has his own style.

Chicks Delivery 11-13-2008 02:46 PM

Ha I was just about to say that til I saw your post. Style wise I would pick him but when it comes to skill I would have to say dimebag.
