you should only get simple possesion.

30+ grams? you'd be fucked in vancouver..

Get legal aid, its free and the lawyer will tell you right away he can get this taken care of. Your charge will either be dropped or reduced to some kind of stupid fine. Your buddy should hit up legal aid right now, mosy likely his charge will be dropped to possesion, especially if he pleads guilty.

I wouldn't reccomend either of you plead guilty or cut a deal right now. Your legal aid will know how the system works and will probably get your charge thrown out and most likely your buddy won't be much trouble either.

I know people busted with alot more bud than what you guys had and faced alot stiffer charges and pretty much everyone has walked.

I know in B.C. most cops are pretty mellow about weed but you can always get an asshole cop who wants to break someone's balls. What the cops don't realize is the courts could give a fuck about these charges and don't have the time to care about a guy with an ounce of weed.

Bottom line get legal aid and you should be fine.

Just so you guys know, legal aid is not something you just given to you in Canada. You have to qualify for it. In other words, you have to make less than X amount (it's not very much) and/or not be a dependant on your parents who can afford to pay.

Your right, but I assumed from his post he didn't have the money to spend on a Lawyer. I figured if he could afford a lawyer he wouldn't of gone to GFY for legal advice

btw, wasnt there cameras in the convenient store proving the guy was there to buy? Did the girl confirm it was "the" guy?

Nope he didn't talk to the media everything happened really fast. He was taken into custody for questioning and then kept in custody. Then he was released on house arrest and I guess his lawyers did not think/want to go to the media.

The guy that called the police was on the news tho.. talking about how suspicious he looked leaving the convenience store.. He was just a impatient driver in a rush..

The girl was raped in the area not the store.

They had lots of proof he had nothing to do with the rape.

The victims didn't point him out of pictures, they tested his blood/dna/sperm didn't match.

and he had witnesses as to where he was.

But he still had to go through all the bullshit of a real trial.

I spent time with him for a year during his house arrest but I ended up cutting him off and so I don't know where everything ended up.

Apparently the police and crown (??) were determined to pin him with all of the charges and look like heros. Whether it was him or not.

No but I mean after he was acquited... This type of story needs to hit the news.. This makes the criminal justice system look criminal indeed and Soviet inspired... In what country did that happen btw?

moeloubani 04-09-2009 10:40 AM

well i can afford a lawyer if it means paying $1k or something like that - i really rather wouldn't though, if i can just get it to trial im confident that the crown would withdraw the charges citing the lack of evidence, so i just need pretty much anyone that can practice law

Ahhh.. I completely lost contact with him.. The situation kind of sketched me out and he was depressing.. I'm kinda selfish so I didn't stick around for him after about a year..

I can't find him on Facebook or anything so I haven't been able to find out how it ended.

I really hope it didn't end with him killing himself or being charged for anything.

This was in Canada.
