LOL hardly, she's really getting all of the human interaction that she was lacking for the first three years of her life before us and she gets over excited very easily. She's such a good girl and very curious just has A.D.D. lol:1orglaugh

We just took one of the puppies to the vet, she had bumps on her skin and her right eye swelled closed. She was bit by a spider, so nothing major I guess.

and for the skin, you have to use more expensive shampoos, and a bath every couple weeks not once a week like most dogs. But you do have to clean thier faces (wrinkles)

Some skin problems come from the food you feed them, we feed ours a top brand known for bulldogs. $42-50 for 40lbs

Bulldogs are a Very Good pet, but you must learn a lot about them.

I just found this site last night
http://www.bulldoginformation.com

Ohh yea with cherry eye another breed that can get that really bad are the mastiffs, the neopolitan ones are especially prone, a friend has had to have surgery on two of her dogs because of this. I've also heard that bulls can get hip dysplasia

agree, cherry eye is a common eye condition in bulldogs, my dog had cherry eye on his left eye but the vet recommended to make a surgery on both eyes, he said that most likely the second eye will get also affected.

Yeah there is definately a lot of grooming with a bulldog. My bulldog got a cherry eye the 2nd day we had him. Had to take him to have it surgery and have it stitched down.

LOL mine does the SAME thing. Whereever he can put his head -- he'll sleep.

Anyways, this is Fuck Face.

http://completeseoguide.com/fuckface.jpg

Why fuckface? He will sit infront of a wall, and look at it for 3 hours - doing nothing. Then he'll fall asleep, wake up, run around, go take a crap and repeat.

i had also heard about health problems and short life spans. Two of my oldest dogs have died and I have one left who is very old and is going to go sooner than later :(.

i've always wanted a bulldog, but quite frankly don't want a dog who will kill my wallet at the vet and cost me a fortune for 8 or less years of life.

did i read wrong? because if this is not the case, i'm there when it is time for my next dog...

tommy72 04-12-2009 03:53 PM

Cute little dogs. We have Dogo Canario and Dobermann, but Katy loves those Bulldogs.
Everytime she see one she says one day Iīd like to have such a cutie.

Itīs a question about the breed. Itīs the challenge to find a good bulldog breeder who cares about breeding with healthy lines and does not only see fast cash.
Mostly the health problems come when the breed gets overstated what often happens with show dogs.

Bulldogs are known for shorter life spans. A friend just had one pass, who just turned 11.
So far our medical bills have been almost nothing.
Maggie had cherry eye, which was under $50 to fix.
One of her puppies had cherry eye.
One of our males will need tail surgery, it is a little to tightly screwed, causing problems. ($350)
The other male had a face lift, haha his wrinkles were to much on his face, and folded into his eye, scratching the surface. That was under $300 (I think)
all the other vet things we have done are normal for all dogs.
Shots, checkups, micro chipped.

If your going to spend $1,200-$5,000 on a dog, you should be able to provide the best dog food, and care.

Love the dogs like Family!

I always wanted one until a friend got one. I came over and he was playing with a tennis ball. At one point he bit down on it, picked it up, and shook his head left and right really fast. I had a drool stain on my pants about 5 inches tall and 2 inches wide. There was a nice puddle in the floor on the other side of the dog too. I haven't wanted one since.

Yeah I wish bulldogs had longer life spans. The vet bills in my case started out a little steep but he hasn't needed to go for awhile. The cherry eye surgery was about $375. My bulldog requires a pretty good amount of cleaning (in the wrinkles, tail, etc. or they can become infected quickly.)

BullDogs normally dont drooled. But since they do everything in a Bully way and by drinking water the stick the whole face in the Bowl, it can look like drool after they have been cooling off.

That's true.
Bulldogs do not normally drool. Our female will chew on a stuffed animal for a long time, and it will become soaked, but I have seen that with many dogs.

Some of our dogs, when they get a drink, or cool off, will dip their entire face, neck in the water. The wrinkles will hold a lot of water.
