they didn't miss the scoop - i'm sure CNN, NYTimes etc had the news of his death the same time as TMZ did but that's the advantage an Internet gossip website has, they can go post it immediately while at CNN and the NYTimes they aren't going to report a death until they have confirmation from more than one reliable source.
