Well, I was born in '64 and never was taught anything other than equality for women and minorities. So if those are the basis for thinking freedom and quality of life is better today, then I just reject that premise so it's all moot.

That was a topic within my paragraph, which is part of freedom. I listed many things, but I could easily go on for into the 100's if not 1000's of examples.

List some examples of how the quality of life today isn't better than 10 years ago and beyond? I would be kind of shocked if you could list one.

Freedom comes in many forms, it isn't always equal and it is a, give and take system. From day one, it was setup that way.

Well Doc, "quality of life" for me may not be defined the same for you or anyone else. So right off the bat it's not an ABC 123 proposition.

But I'll take a shot. Back in ye olden days, if a family moved into a vacant house, within 3 days they'd have met and learned the names of every family within maybe a 5 house radius. Back in the day, if you answered your telephone "Hello?" nobody ever demanded to know if you are Mr Smith. They would return the greeting of Hello, and if they had business they would state, I'm mr jones from abc bank calling for mr smith, may I speak with him please? Today it's "hello?" "Is this mr smith?" "who's calling please?" "I need to speak to mr smith". blah, fucking assholes. I do that EVERY DAY man, and I'm not kidding. Hardly a goddamn hello! People are dicks!

Now, for you that might not equate to "quality of life". But you asked.

i think he did a lot of good at his job.. i don't care about his personal history. at least, not anymore.

This fucking fat ass drunk Ted Kennedy most likely has much lower morals than anyone on this board. I can't think of one human being I know of who would not try to save a young woman from drowning. I would not want to know anyone like that. In fact the way I was raised was to risk your own life to save someone.

I doubt that a day in his life went by that Ted Kennedy did not regret the Chappaquiddick incident of 40 years ago, even though he was largely exonerated of any wrongdoing.

Indeed that one event, very likely cost him the Presidency.

Instead of becoming bitter or shirking the spotlight that followed him everywhere, he dedicated the remaining years of his life to issues which he was passionate about, including immigration, cancer research, health insurance, apartheid, disability discrimination, AIDS care, civil rights, mental health benefits, children's health insurance, education and volunteering, and in so doing, became one of the greatest Senators in this country's history - the "Liberal Lion of the Senate".

His work touched the lives of nearly everyone in America, and improved the lives of countless millions throughout the world. He truly did reach across the aisle, and was beloved, even by his opponents, for his charm and warmth.

It saddens me that some people feel compelled to make such mean-spirited comments, and parrot tired embittered statements, about a man who has just recently passed, and whom has done far more for our country than his critics ever will, or could ever have dreamed about.

What a pathetic and shallow existence some of you lead...blinded by ideology, and unable to see the good in a man that did much good, who endured so much personal tragedy, yet somehow managed to overcome it, and as history will show, became one of the greatest legislators and leaders in this country's history.

RIP Ted Kennedy...

To add just a little more, the Kennedy aura is horseshit. People in the states (I was going to say this country but I'm living in Toronto now) are so fucking stupid that they just vote on a name. But it's not just voting. We (as a country) are mindless sheep that need some guidance. You tools that argue politics are as stupid as the sheep that follow. You can't argue on this, or any other board because there is no reason(ing).

I am not a Kennedy fan, but have to say, yes he made a BIG mistake, but I think in the 47 years he served our country, he has done more good then bad. How come we can forgive (not forget) bad things others do but not what he has done. It's always an easy thing to do, kick a man when he's dead, makes the kicker a REAL man, doesn't it? I bet you tried to get a good seat on Michael Vicks first game, didn't you?
