Aye, a PC will make Video / Audio... but a Mac will do it better, faster, with less issues and you don't have to buy extra software, like you did.

Your 6k studio is about 50k less than the "basic low end" professional studios. My partner is up to about 40k in equipment and it doesn't touch the pro studios in NY.

The change on that setup from PC to Mac... was like night and day, professional wise.

If you make Video on a PC, start doing it on a Mac and you will have more free time to burn more videos.

Gee your a dickhead, you dont even know how to use it. You can open as many pages as you fucking want.

Be a little kinder to Apple

I use my Mac. My PC is under the bed.

I am a very well-endowed mac user.

MACS and PCS are the same hardware with a different graphical user interfaces. I dont see what all the argument is about when Macs use the same hardware chipsets as PCS nowadays. If you like your buttons to look different then cool get the machine that you prefer. I have been building PCs for video editing since 1999 and the machines I use are rock solid. I don't ever get viruses since I know better so the virus issue doesn't apply to me. I don't care to even try a MAC since my PC is a solid workhorse gives me realtime workflow and extremely fast rendering. I will never switch to MAC and will always build my own sytems so I know is exactly what is in my machine and furthermore that it is compatible with all the multimedia software I am running.

Mac isn't processing the video its the video card, hard drive, processor, & RAM that do this the software is just a controller for them LOL! Whether windows or mac tells it what to do it still does the same thing and creates the same file as you tell it to.

Just because you like the way the OS feels doesn't mean it make the hardware run any faster that it is capable of. If you are trying to run software without using the right hardware on a PC then you are asking for trouble. Mac doesn't use cheap hardware so you can be ignorant about hardware and it will usually work with everything.

I like to configure my hardware setup myself and I know I have the best components for the job for my budget. The OS is nothing but a GUI (graphical user interface) I just prefer PC.

I believe that MACs are less headache for people that don't have time to reasearch how to configure their machine for multimedia. In other words if you are ignorant to hardware configuration & just want to plug and play then you probably want to get a MAC.

Jay-Rock 09-20-2009 03:14 PM

If I wanted to spend 3k on a machine I would just build 2 PCs since its the same cost and not only do I have 2 machines that are equal in hardware speed but I can render on both machines allowing me to run circles around the guys that spent the same for one MAC

Umm... the software is very different.. It has nothing to do with a GUI. If it was a GUI change, we would see a lot more crossed over software.

You know like 10,000+ processional and amateur video/audio studios, used a PC, went to Mac and never came back. For many reasons.

Personally, I don't like OSX, so it isn't a 'feels good' thing to me. It's a professional studio in a tiny box with better quality, speed, less problems, less upgrades, less hardware configure, and less overall issues.

I bet you $1000 I can setup a Mac for Video faster than you can a PC. I just need to open the box and plug it in, how about you?

My PC is easily twice the speed as K's Mac. But she can load, process, convert, clean up, give effects, adjust audio, merge clips/movies, etc... at least twice the speed as my PC. Heck, I can't even do half the crap she can without loading up some plugin, or some other software.

I can actually SEE the Color quality difference between the Youtube videos (and designs) done on a Mac vs PC.

And that's the thing, you NEED two PC's... so while you mange two PC's, I'm letting one mac do twice the work while I chill in the pool.

Know what you would have?

Two PC's with no Video or Audio software on them.

So, you will need to fork out another $800-$2500 per PC, and lets not forget audio and photoshop either. Unless your some new master of Windows Movie Maker Pro :)

I DON'T NEED 2 PCS MY MACHINE RENDERS EFFECTS WITH 8 LAYERS OF VIDEO AND GRAPHIC OVERLAYS IN REAL TIME AND MY PROCESSING TIME FOR COMPRESSION IS BLAZING FAST. GET ONE OF THESE OR I WILL LEAVE YOU AND YOUR MAC IN THE DUST.

- You go buy the low end Intel Quad Core for $380.

- I buy the top of the line Intel Server mother board for $599.99.
- I buy the high end Xenon Quad Core for $980.

Now, you come back saying you built a 3.0Ghz quad core Intel machine for only $460.
I come back and say I built a 3.0Ghz quad core Intel machine for $1,580.

You try to claim you built the same machine for a third of the price. Which is laughable, like all these debates. There is no price difference between a mac and a pc. A mac is built on pc hardware so there's really no debate at all. When people TRY to debate it, they debate by comparing utter piece of shit computers (like cheap model dells) to quality computers (like top model macs).

Anyone who builds their own computers and actually understands hardware components knows this.

You wont get a good mac for 3k

Hell our pc processing machines are 3k each, and they could do with an upgrade.
pc's work fine but you need a LOT of them and you cant run windows if getting into bulk processing.

And that is for encoding.

I could never imagine rendering on a pc though...8 core macs are just too damn good at that.

Gold is going MUCH MUCH higher. Just wait for the next crisis you will see what I am talking about. :thumbsup

Seriously, Mac is the biggest fucking rip off ever. It does have some advantages like less likely to get viruses. But you are paying double for a basically a computer that looks more stylish and is easier to use.

The reason I bought one was so I would know more about AAPL products. Now I know why I shorted AAPL stock on Friday. :321GFY

complaints:
1. Cannot open up multiple windows of same thing. I have several gmail accounts and like to have them all open sometimes. On a shitty Mac I have to close out of one gmail account before I open another.

2. So much cool software does not have a version for the mac

3. ICQ work like shit when I downloaded it.

4. Double the fucking cost of a comparable windows machine :1orglaugh

5. The track pad is fucking dumb as shit. I know the proper finger sweeps in order to increase text but the hunk of shit I was sold increased the text size on the screen over and over even when I was just moving the cursor around. I was not in any way making the finger/thumb motion that is saved for changing text size . This was SO FUCKING ANOYING as every 15 minutes the god damed text would all of a sudden get really big for no freaking reason.

6. Ever notice the "Mac geniuses" that work at the store have absolutely no Mac product knowledge?

7. Some software I needed cost double than comparable software for a PC (different company made the software but had similar features)

8. Did I mention they cost fucking double????????????!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

9. The Mac mighty mouse is fucking garbage.

10. I hate the cult-like attitude that Mac people have. You can tell a person who uses a Dell that you don't like the company and they will not really give a shit. People who use PCs have better things to do with their time than worship their overpriced dumbed down trendy computer.

11. Often when I try to click out of a screen I have to click like 5 times to get the thing to close. I have the point of the cursor directly over the red circle when I do this. WTF?????????

Also, pick up a book (and read it) to familiarize yourself with the Mac OS system. This is a good one:

http://www.deancapture.com/switching.jpg

The Mac is a great system but don't expect it to run like your PC. There is a learning curve involved and depending on how much time you put in to it, it could take from a few days to a few weeks to feel comfy....even longer for some folks.

There are a lot of Mac users here at GFY and they'd love to help you make the switch/adjustment. All you have to do is ask if you have an issue.

I fucked up my Sony laptop about a week and a half ago. Lucky for me, I had purchased Best Buy's extended protection and when I brought the Sony in to the store, they took a look at it then gave me a full 2k+ credit to pick out a new computer with. The only thing they had on hand in that price range was a 15" MacBook Pro.

I've had the MacBook for 10 days now and I can honestly tell you it is BY FAR the best laptop I have ever owned. I LOVE the new trackpad and how easy everything is.

If you do not like Mac it is most likely do to one of two things:

1: The learning curve.

2: Ignorance.

I'm not trying to talk shit as those are the very reasons that have kept me away from Macs.

the idea that sticky even considers a 6k setup anything remotely impressive speaks volumes. The studio I interned at had instruments that were valued at 250k LOL (Synclavier) the mixing board was like 500k LOL Anyone comparing some home studio set up to a major studio is totally CLUELESS.

There is about 1 million dollars worth of difference between sticky hitting record in his home studio (nothing wrong with home studios we all have them) and what a major recording studio offers... but 6k is nothing. $1 mil is less than the cost of a studio with any decent gear. I personally know guys running studios with at least double that in Los Angeles.

A used guitar can cost you more than 6k LOL not too impressive considering you look at the cost of some of the Digidesign setups that run like 45k

Agaon fact is, you walk in a major recording studio and say you are anti-mac and you will be laughed out the door. Thats what this was about...
