The mind is a powerful thing. Placebos, for example, can cause actual physical improvement in people with an identifiable physical ailment. Acupuncture has positive effects even if you just poke people with toothpicks in random places. Homeopathy has positive effects even if people are really only getting water. Normal IV fluid will decrease pain in patients if they think they are getting morphine, and patients used to getting morphine will actually have a physical reaction decreasing pain before they even get it. Sadly, the reverse also holds true. People can develop actual physical symptoms merely through suggestion. Convince a million people that the glass of normal water they just drank contains arsenic and thousands will experience physical symptoms, dozens if not hundreds will develop actual physical symptoms, and a few may well die or sustain permanent disabilities. |

p 5: "Inactivated vaccines are not alive and cannot replicate." Those are the killed ones I mentioned. On the other hand, attenuated viruses can cause the disease: p 5: "Live attenuated vaccines may cause severe or fatal reactions as a result of uncontrolled replication (growth) of the vaccine virus." Killed/inactive viral particles cannot cause the disease, but attenuated viral particles can - although it's quite rare, and the disease is typically less severe when it does happen. Now, in the case of the flu vaccine, both variants are used. Killed virus for the shot, attenuated virus for the nasal spray: p 5: "Currently available live attenuated viral vaccines include measles, mumps, rubella, vaccinia, varicella, yellow fever, and influenza (intranasal)." p6: "Currently available inactivated vaccines are limited to inactivated whole viral vaccines (influenza, polio, rabies, and hepatitis A)." The woman in this story got the shot, which doesn't contain the live virus. |

No way in hell these motherfucker will shoot me with that shit. I'd rather die.

Hmm interesting.. if the idea behind this "vaccine" is to stop the spread why isn't Obama's kids getting it?
http://whitehouse.blogs.foxnews.com/...-against-h1n1/ After all shouldn't they take it for the "greater good" ? So Libertine if you are so smart, and we should all "get in line" and protect all the weaker people, why in the fuck are Obama's kids that are healthy NOT getting the shot? Riddle me that med student of the year. :1orglaugh |

She didn't get a swine flu shot. Not sure why the OP said that.

poor girl.. but it was a seasonal flu shot not swine flu.. A 25 year old "healthy" girl had no business getting one anyway IMO. People need to stop getting flu shots if they are health and leave them for the sick and elderly.

"The Centers for Disease Control recommend Children from 6 months through 18 years of age get the vaccine because cases of 2009 H1N1 influenza have been seen in children who are in close contact with each other in school and day care settings, which increases the likelihood of disease spread. " The CDC recommends it.... http://www.cdc.gov/h1n1flu/vaccination/acip.htm |

And Ill highlight this again as per what particular groups the CDC RECOMMENDS get vaccinated FIRST!! "The committee recommended the vaccination efforts focus on five key populations. Vaccination efforts are designed to help reduce the impact and spread of novel H1N1. The key populations include those who are at higher risk of disease or complications, those who are likely to come in contact with novel H1N1, and those who could infect young infants. When vaccine is first available, the committee recommended that programs and providers try to vaccinate: pregnant women, people who live with or care for children younger than 6 months of age, health care and emergency medical services personnel, persons between the ages of 6 months through 24 years of age, and people from ages 25 through 64 years who are at higher risk for novel H1N1 because of chronic health disorders or compromised immune systems. The groups listed above total approximately 159 million people in the United States." http://www.cdc.gov/media/pressrel/2009/r090729b.htm Now that is what the CDC recommends.... how old are Obama's Daughters? "Malia is 10 years old Sasha is 7 years old" Hmm 6 months to 24 years of age. Yet no shot. |

Were you in the gifted program when you were in school? No? I was. Just to show you what a fucking moron you are arguing with me about IQ testing. I am originally from PA. "In Pennsylvania, a child with an IQ of 130 or higher must be offered gifted services, but other students can receive gifted services too. Delaware and New Jersey do not mandate gifted services for a specific IQ level." http://www.metrokids.com/april08/gifted0408.html I entered the gifted program around grade 5 after a parent teacher conference. I was constantly bored in school and the teacher thought it was cause I didn't want to learn. My parents knew otherwise and pushed for finding out why. I was given an IQ test and I believe in 5th grade scored a 135 or so, it increased some as I got older, and I had a high score of 144, but my average score ended up around 142 out of the last 3 tests I took that were individually issued.. Once you are in the gifted program we usually took a new IQ test every few years. Now then. Suck my balls dipshit. You never got IQ tested because you weren't thought to be gifted. Sorry.. |

Nobody is claiming that the swine flu is likely to mutate into something similar to the 1918 flu. There's just a small chance that it happens, but that small chance needs to be taken seriously since if it would happen, it would have huge effects. It's like putting on your seatbelt when you go for a drive. Will you crash? Probably not. And yet, if you just drive enough, chances are that you will eventually be involved in a crash. A similar thing is the case with potential pandemics. Most will turn out to be relatively harmless, killing only a few thousand people. But we know for a fact that every once in a while, one turns up that kills millions. That's something countries should prepare for, just like they should prepare for natural disasters, terrorist attacks, environmental disasters, etc. The "big scares", however, aren't a part of that preparation. Rather, they're asinine media hypes - because the media profit from hypes, as evidenced by the case which started this thread. One thing to keep in mind, however, is that this year's swine flu has already killed thousands of people - including hundreds of children. In the US alone, a few dozen completely healthy children have been killed by the swine flu. Meanwhile, morons like you pounce on idiotic news stories of cases where a flu vaccine is quite unlikely to be the cause of disease. Here's a thought: stop being scared, and try to be rational instead? Look at the numbers, realize that personal risks are small either way, and see that of the two small risks, the flu is by far the larger one? |
IQ tests, they're fun.. I use to live out east, myself.. went to this place called dupont.. EI or AI? Tested on the low one sixties both times .. The only problem is that intelligence can get in the way, when you're human .. I saw every counselor, shrink, head picker, gifted "specialist" and finally said mother FUCK you all and quit when I was 12. Just quit, left. Glad of it, too.
I think that they should try smacking this girl when she goes into that.. No, I am not being a wise guy .. but it's the only thing that I can think of .. But I can imagine her going into the nerve fit, slapping the fuck out of her and her straightening out and being just fine .. instantly I think it'd have as high as a 5% chance of working and it's all I can think of |

And why did you skip over the fact that Obama's daughters did not get the shot? You have told me over and over the last few weeks that we must ALL get the shot in order to protect the weaker immune systems around us. AND his daughters are directly in the age bracket that the CDC recommends to get the shot. Yet they didn't get it. And I bet you they NEVER get the shot at all. So if the daughters of the President of the United States don't get the shot why exactly would I or any thinking person let their children get an untested and unproven vaccine? Obama should lead by example right? haha... |
Im not getting the flu shot at all...or swine flu shot no sir reee

That is messed up, poor girl :(

Or do you think that if the President of the United Stated of America smokes, smoking must be entirely safe? Regardless of what Obama does, says or thinks, he's a politician. Why base your actions on the words or actions of a politician when it comes to medicine? Personally, I prefer looking at what actual experts have to say - just like I would rather listen to a plumber than a lawyer when it comes to plumbing. |

Just admit you were wrong. YOU told me that EVERYONE needs to get the vaccine in order to protect the weaker immune systems around us. Obama DID NOT let his children get the vaccine, and Im betting neither did he, or anyone in his family. Whole thing is silly. I don't have much time for all this though.. right now I am setting up the netting around my house to protect from killer bees, and birds that might carry the Avian flu. Then I have to make sure all my aerosol cans are gone to protect the ozone layer, then have to check the weather report to make sure I don't get caught in some nasty acid rain..... should I go on? :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh Baaaa baaaa black sheep... |

By the way, you might not realize it, but he actually has the entire medical community of the world at his fingertips. As do you. Just google "PubMed", and you can find virtually all published medical research on virtually every subject. And if you think he doesn't trust the flu vaccine, why would he not openly oppose it? After all, if it's gonna kill lots and lots of people, you know he'll be the one getting the blame. What truly astounds me, however, is your sudden trust in Obama's good judgment. I mean, he has all the economists of the US at his fingertips too, yet you don't appear to agree with his decisions on the economy. What gives? Have you suddenly become a great big Obama fan? Quote:

I suppose we should blame the existence of HIV/AIDS on the invention of the television while we're at it. Not to mention Danny Kaye - I bet he'd turn around in his grave if he knew that his death caused the first airing of The Bold and the Beautiful a few weeks later. |

Btw maybe you should learn to read the links you post? Obama did NOT get the h1n1 vaccine. Quote:
You just keep skipping over it and over it. Why did you repeatedly tell me that EVERYONE needs to get this shot to protect the weak? When it appears they are only giving the shot TO THE WEAK. I was told by you that its our duty to protect the weak by receiving a shot that may or may not cause even the perfectly healthy to have health issues. Its all for the greater good right. Jesus wept... |

Oh, wait, you do trust the seasonal flu shot, but not the H1N1 vaccine? That's what you're trying to say? If so, I suppose that's a pretty big step forward for a small-brained guy like you. Quote:
Quote:
In the case of your favorite subject, H1N1 vaccinations, the main reason for vaccination should be rational self-interest. The swine flu has already killed dozens of otherwise healthy children, while there is literally zero evidence for the swine flu vaccine posing a risk that is in any way, shape or form comparable. But why am I even discussing this with you... it's not like I actually want to contribute to the continued existence of your shitty genes. So please, disregard all I said. Don't vaccinate your children for anything. :glugglug |

Just keep on falling for the next big scare... you are after all a professional at it. lmao |

With the flu, however, the problem is that it spreads and mutates too quickly to make it possible to achieve herd immunity. By the time you have an effective vaccine, there already are tons of outbreaks. By the time you've vaccinated enough of the population to get within reach of herd immunity, a new strain of the flu is already rearing its head. So with the flu, the primary goal isn't achieving herd immunity - the middle of an epidemic is quite a bit too late to start thinking of that. Rather, the primary goal is protecting those most at risk. That means that vaccinating people with weakened immune systems, people working with patients who have weakened immune systems, and people most likely to come into contact with the virus is the priority. After that, mass vaccinations can be used to slow the spread of the epidemic and decrease damage among the population as a whole - especially in case a strain mutates into something more devastating. With viruses that don't mutate or spread as quickly, on the other hand, both herd immunity and individual prevention are primary goals. Herd immunity is the reason smallpox is now forever gone, and the reason that there's a good chance of eradicating polio in the reasonably near future. But you don't understand any of this, do you? |
She needs a pair of Spyglasses
These Spy Glasses look like an ordinary pair of cool sun glasses...except they're not! You can actually see behind you! On the inside outer edges of each of the lenses is a special mirrored coating that allows you to see what is going on behind you. Taking a walk or riding a bike and feel like you're being followed? Just look to your right or left to see who it is! Its like having a rear view mirror with you. http://www.tbotech.com/images/spy-glasses.jpg http://www.tbotech.com/spyglasses.htm |
Some out of order crap I wish to post.
1. Aside from yes it is a pandemic by definition, it also has a questionable stability so it can also mutate quickly yet thankfully it has not. However it is a virus that has crossed species which makes it an additional threat. 2. In school IQ testing is BS. Hell Penn & Teller should do a show on it. I had the in school IQ tests. I scored real low at first (random answers by me, which landed me in special ed. Even though they told me the test did not matter). Second test I took seriously and it placed me in the high IQ gifted arena. They wanted to talk skipping grades, special advance classes and all that shit. I complained and eventually got what I want which was normal classes. Fast Forward a few years. I get into my medical malpractice lawsuit. Lawyers from both sides need to discover my future income potential and many other factors at the ripe age of 12-13. This testing took 2-3 days at around 4 to 6 hours each day. The results were much different than what the schools ever said. I will just leave it at that and say unless people have done that type of brain testing, IQ tests are bullshit. 3. In most places nobody can even get the damn h1n1 shot, spray, or whatever. They just are not available. I do mean nobody too, even places full of chemo patients who could kick it by catching a common cold. |
