Bottom line on this, is that this biz developed with a bunch of lucky amateurs making a bunch of lucky money. It is not an industry that has any organized history with industry standard rules and industry accepted behaviour. Its kind of a mosh pit in the world of business and the standard is whatever you can get away with.
In this case, a rather unprofessional company dissed a girl and lied to her. Plain and simple. Its a pimp attitude, not a business attitude.

Well I tried to do the right thing and read the entire thread before posting, so I scrolled down all of page 3 and didn't see anything about Smokie..so I gave up..sorry if I repeat anything here..

I feel for you girl, I know how much time and effort it takes to get ready for a shoot! a week before I start tanning, you have to get your nails done the day before, packing your bags with all the right outfits and toys, make sure your hair has been done in the last 2-3 weeks, for me I have to find a dogsitter, getting your makeup and hair just right the day of the shoot.. to sit around for NOTHING, not even a KILL FEE? What did they say to you when they basically told you "Sorry you sat here for nothing all day, go home now" were they at least apologetic? (not that it matters WHAT they said, the right thing would of been to pay a kill fee, your time is just as valuable as theirs!!)
And I'm sure you had better things to do that day. How unprofessional. Maybe it's better you didn't get shot so you have no involvement, except for this thread, with such a crappy company that treats it's models like shit! I'll def never shoot with them after reading this.

But I've learned by that they basically entered into a contract, by agreeing to do xxx for $$$ at said place and time. When THEY broke they contract, they are liable for some lost $$. There would be no "kill fee" if it weren't morally and legally proper.
I completely understand casting or a look-see to see if the girl looks anything like the description. I bought lunch for a group I had to turn away on those conditions. The agent somewhat assured them of work, but they weren't in my niche (aka too old and unattractive). Smokie explained this was not a casting or application or interview, that had already been completed earlier, and they provided a job offer which she went to. Yes no doubt whatsoever she is entitled to some amount of kill fee $. If e.g. they apologized and re-booked her for the next day it would still suck, but might lessen their moral and legal obligations to $.
Producers who don't agree are wrong. Those who didn't understand the scenario should have read more before passing judgment.
On the flip side, yes, it is too bad producers can't easily collect from the models that also enter into those contracts and f^k us over by no show, being drunk etc. Somehow I don't imagine many judges having sympathy for the producers cases though.

Could have been worse you could have been told by an a "agent" that you had $5K of work booked, covered your own expense to fly and stay there only to find all your shoots canceled. "But hey how about doing some webcam shows or a private or two to cover your costs?"

I went to Vegas once, wasn't just me either, girls where booked thru agents, make up artst, producers, full crews all showed up to this shoot. And the guy who owned the house had no idea what was going on. This was like 3 years ago. Sadly this shit happens all the time, but from a company like RK its unacceptable.
