If you disable the vibrating touch pad, turn your screen brightness down, turn off the 4G, Wifi, bluetooth and turn apps off that you are not using, the battery is a zero issue. Just sayen.


But if you are like me and you like all of the bells and whistles, just keep extra chargers around. So you can have the best of both worlds.

No worries regarding the battery on this phone. Out of the box, it's already better than what I was getting with my Samsung Moment.

I am still deciding if I really want to give Google so much informaiton and add all my emails, contact data & calendar to the Google cloud. Not too thrilled with the idea of having so much information tracked and compiled by Google, along with the security concerns of allowing business and personal data to be stored outside of my own computers. The HTC Sync software that comes with the Evo will let one sync contacts & calendar from Outlook or Outlook Express directly with the Evo through the USB charging cable. And the Evo can handle POP/IMAP email for those of us who use our own domain emails. So one is not necessarilly forced to use gmail as a main email account.

I think that is a very valid point. I wouldn't ever trust a free service for my business email and comms.

I see what you are saying, but then again its Google we are talking about. Their business is not my contacts. I dont see them going through my contacts to call my friends and business contacts. Nothing that would warrant Google or anybody to show any interest in trying to procure. At the end of the day if they got out it would be as simple as leaving a message on my voice mail out going message saying "if you get a strange man from Google calling you, im sorry. i am on the fence about iphone or android, and having video skype (with front facing webcam) might tip the balance.

It will be interesting to see the new version of the iPhone in action. The more competition and advancement in the smartphone business the better for all of us. But based on what I have been reading on the tech sites, I think the Evo is way better than the iPhone for a multitude of reasons. It has a 4G (where available), a much bigger screen, 720p videocamera, true multi-tasking, more updates of the OS with Android, HDMI out, dual cameras, more free apps, and lots of other features. They are both certainly good smartphones, but I think Android's super fast development pace and multitude of handsets has given them the momentum now.

I wouldn't worry about Google employees snooping your email like you & Dave jokingly suggested. But there are several other potential pitfalls to using web based email and cloud storage. For one you risk losing your email archive if the remote copy disappears for whatever reason including simple drive & backup failure or corruption. You also have no access to your email during a temporary local loss of your network connection. There is also the possibility of hacking by known individuals targeting your account or random individuals targetting many accounts and Google itself. I even recall a virus that affected MySpace mail a few years ago that selected random emails from your mailboxes and forwarded them to other random emails in your contact page.

Of course with this you are also giving up other elements of your privacy if you are now constantly logged into your Google accounts, so that they are now collecting data on you as an individual including your emails, your web searches, your physical location plus contacts and calendar. I do use some of Google's services including the search engine, Google analytics, Google documents and now this Android smartphone. I just don't feel like putting every one of my eggs in their basket. If Microsoft came up with a Windows smartphone with Evo 4G specs, a user friendly interface, and fast processor, I would certainly be wide open to giving that a go next year. I like the Evo 4G for a lot of reasons, but joining the Google collective without questioning the wisdom of it isn't necessarily one of them.

So, i down loaded this barcode scanner that uses my camera to scan bar codes on this website or at the store.


I scan the barcodes with my phone camera on the website above and my phone sees it, then goes and down loads that APP on the spot. That is pretty bad ass!

I did it at the store and it told me what local store had the item cheaper and what website has it cheaper too. WTF?? Technology is crazy!! Shopsavvy is the program im using for barcode scanning, but there are a few out there.

One simple but useful app: If you aren't used to touch screens and are accidentally pocket dialing or pressing your finger on a contact instead of swiping like I did a couple of times so far, Call Confirm adds a prompt to make or hang up the phone call before it dials out.

Qik is FREE unless you want to have more than the standard features (conference capabilities, I think). Video chatting from phone to PC or phone to phone is free.

Basically confirms what you and I are saying - phone-to-phone and phone-to-pc are still free for a 640x480 video feed. If you want higher resolution, and fancier options, then you can pay the $5.

Should note, though, that there'll be other apps for this in the near future.

Got the Evo first thing on release day, such a badass phone! For those bitching about the battery, be a man and buy an extended life battery! It aint rocket science :) I have the 1800mah from Mugen and I can easily get 8-10 hours of moderate use. If thats not enough, Seido makes a 2000mah and also a 3500, but that requires a new back.
