Needed a pin and a screw. Not sure how much the whole ordeal set me back, the surgery itself was $3k. I think I made it out all said and done still shy of $4k. What a fucking nightmare that was. Sorry to hear you went through this also.

I love my little butter bean though, he's worth every cent.

wow, they are fragile when they're pups eh. i know exactly the ordeal you went through. my guy's situation was made worse because the jerk vet didn't have a small enough screw so he just used the smallest one he had, which literally poked out the other side of the knee joint and broke through the skin after awhile and caused a massive infection.

we had to keep the pin in for longer, the infection didn't stop, more xrays showed the infection near the bone and the bones weren't fusing together correctly and after 3 months we had to take the pin out. now it's a mass of bone and a *fake joint* he'll still favor that leg and will be bothered by it sometimes, like when walking in thick grass.

i keep him on glucosamine 2x daily and that helps a lot.

That's one tough lookin little guy. I would get him a spiked collar.

Also would have named him Shit Head. that way when you go out side to call him home the you get some fun looks from the neighbors.

My mixed chihuahua (despite his papers saying otherwise) He wasn't too happy in that pic. He just came from the vet.

We have had chihuahuas over the last 25 years or so. My best one lived 14 years and she was my constant companion. She died last year. People always found it funny because I am a huge guy, and i had this tiny chihuahua that was my shadow.

About a year before that chi died, my daughter got me another one with the idea he would learn from the other. He had been in a home with small kids, and they were abusing him, and my daughter offered to take him.
He still doesn't like kids, and for the longest time he didn't want any attention. In the last couple months he has been wanting to be petted, and has mellowed quite a bit. He adores my wife, and every night when she takes off her socks, he takes them plays with them for a while, and eventually takes them to the laundry basket. He also insists on getting on my desk, standing on the keyboard and watches the screen. The other day I came home and had several hundred windows open.
In January, we got a female, and she is quite a bit like the one who was my shadow. We have bigger dogs also, and she does not back down from them. As a puppy, she is into chewing. After leaving the house for a couple hours, I came home and found she had somehow got up on the bathroom cabinet and got out 8 rolls of toilet paper. She took them in the middle of our bed and shredded them for us. She also has a bad habit of getting in my wife's purse and rooting for treasure. Her name is Fancy, but she is often referred to as Shithead.

Still cool, but I would kill for a big heavy solid wood spanish mission style front door. One of these days.

Spunky 06-23-2010 09:08 PM

All the ones I've seen are yappy and aggressive

blonda80 06-23-2010 09:50 PM

I like all dogs. Those little chihuahuas are amusing and have a lot of personality.
