i prefer to the auto check out things. i don't have to talk to anyone and i can pack my own groceries so my chips aren't crushed when i get home.

I sometimes chit-chat up the checkout girl, but never to the point of it slowing the flow of me getting the hell out of there with my stuff and letting the next guy through.

I find this is worse at the bank. My bank in particular has a few VERY chatty tellers to love to yap yap yap with each customer while you stand in line growing cobwebs. Again, me, I keep it brief. Less chat, more chit, as in I make my deposits and I'm out of there. Unless they're serving a free buffet and that one hot teller is going to do a pole dance there's no reason to hang around.

yes, sometimes it does suck, like the situation that caused this thread. i'm a diabetic, sometimes i am have a major situation with my blood sugar and i need to eat something fast and sit down to recover. try standing on-line with a glucose reading 20% of normal while some knucklehead takes his time telling a story to the cashier about cheetos and get back to me.

The last job I had my boss was diabetic and the only real warning you would get as another person that his sugar was all wonky was he would get angry and sleepy. Was always surprised at how quickly some chocolate and a glass of milk could fix him but it did bother me a bit that he really was rubbish at regularly eating to control it :disgust

yeah, i've been firing up the insulin for 26 years now, i have what's called impaired hypoglycemic awareness, i don't know shit is bad till it's real bad. i am obsessive re: my diet, checking my glucose, etc but sometimes i mess up.

I apologize, and you are right, of course. In NYC I see about 50 races every block, so it's nothing for me to say a latina or an asian or whatever. To me it's all the same, just differant 'spices'. I posted a thread about being offended that a cashier greeted the person in front of me but then didn't greet me. Plus I made another one complaining about being addressed by a title by a cashier. I just hate dealing with cashiers.

Now I would prefer not talking to them at all. If I don't know you then pretty much don't talk to me...
