I deal with multiple datacenters, including Quadranet/Pacificrack. We have one of the above-mentioned server with Pacificrack and for anyone with moderately heavy database driven sites, that 3450 processor rocks. It's easily handling a 40,000 unique a day wordpress based blog we have PLUS running an ad server (openx) and doing it rather smoothly.

For the cost of the server, profit margins are extremely good at this price point.

The only downside with this specific server config is that the processr cannot be doubled for a dual processor config. The next step up, I assume, would be the Nehalem 5502's or so, but they'd be without hyperthreading. Thus, the next logical upgrade would probably be to 5520's or even 5620s. But, I digress.

For the price, we've found it to be excellent value for what we put it through on a daily basis. We've enjoyed having a presence at Quadranet and continue to expand our presence there.

For the price point now go with the E5620 over the E5520, they are actually less than the E5520. You are correct though, the Xeon 3440's and above are strong performers.

You could also consider adding a second X3450 and either moving some stuff to the second machine or running the SQL server load balanced over both (master/master) (which ever would be easier to setup / offload most load)!
We also have X3460 CPU servers available which can increase performance a bit more (as long as the load is CPU based and not memory or I/O (HDD)).

Yes, a load balanced solution will be the next upgrade once we grow beyond the dual 5620's and 12GB RAM configuration currently in place at another DC. However, a hardware load balanced solution is certainly something we'd be interested in getting more info on. I'll hit George up later.

That would rock indeed - especially if I could download the backup as gzip or similar archive. I mean I already pay you to do the backups for me, but the ability to store a backup on my home comp manually every now and then would give me a warm fuzzy feeling :1orglaugh

100tb.com has a better deal:

Intel Quad Core Xeon 3220 - 4 x 2.40GHz
2 x 500GB HDD
8GB RAM
1 GigE (1000Mbit) dedicated port
100TB monthly transfer
$201.15/mo

Why settle for 10tb when you can get 100tb?

Thats not a real review. Its another host who is mad he lost a big deal to us.
We are in legal proceedings with them actually over the matter.
He spammed a bunch of the consumer report sites that don't remove anything you add.

You can literally write anything about any company and they will not remove it.

That CPU is no where near the X3450 CPU, so you are downgrading your CPU big time for more bandwidth... So which do you want to give on? Something you dont need (10TB is more than enough most of the time) to get something you will need, processing power?
Either way, we can offer 100TB deals as well at amazing rates.

Lol.. that's not a professional way! They should offer you a better options and support instead of hiding head in the sand and saying good bye to you. This is not the way to resolve things professionally imho.
