People are drinking several of them in an evening because the caffeine counteracting the drowsy effect of the alcohol and that leads them to potentially ending up with alcohol poisoning and death. It's know as blackout in a can for christs sake...

These drinks should be either illegal or not caffeinated it's that easy.

The poor youth and college kids...Hey wait a minute! Isn't that the time in life when you are SUPPOSED to raise hell and party like an animal?

So now caffeine in alcoholic drinks is just too dangerous for these poor babies of today? FUCK! We were dropping yellowjackets and snorting cocaine to be able to party late when I was in college. What a bunch of goddamn pussies! Caffeine? Pussy shit! lol! :1orglaugh

EDIT: Fiddy wide-awake drunk people who can't handle "dangerous" drugs like CAFFEINE! LOL! Of course most of them are already doing prescription diet pills and snorting ritalin and adderall to get jacked up...but LORD don't let 'em have CAFFEINE! Oh the humanity!

The drink that is being banned has caused teenagers to drop down dead from heart attacks.

No shit. It is scary indeed. Four Loko is not something you want in the hand of binge drinkers, aka college students. At a party at CWU 9 students collapsed and 1 almost died.

i survived plenty of vodka/red bull nights - but everytime i can only sleep like 4-5 hours after them and when i wake up my heart beats about 120 times per minute. the combination works great, but it's surely not healthy - lol

Scary? WTF?!?!?

College "kid" (who are ADULTS by the way) have been binge drinking for centuries and every year many of them DIE from it. Shit happens. Four Loko is not something you want in the hand of binge drinkers?...dude, they are PARTYING. Most people who are on a big drinking spree are also smoking pot, doing speed, etc.

Damn...I could understand if this was about the millions of people across the world who drink and then do crank, or snort some coke, or pop a prescription diet pill so they don't get too stupid and can stay up later to chase pussy at the club...

But I don't care what any of you geeks say...a CAFFEINE and alcohol drink is supposed to be "scary"? Not in my world.
Keith Richards takes a shit on what scares you bunch of homebody motherfuckers! :1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh:1orglaugh

it's not just caffeine and alcohol, those drinks are loaded with taurine and guarine.

Last year he gave more power to the FDA and they banned fruit flavored rolling papers and made it illegal to ship cigarettes in the mail

"Drinks known as ?Blackout in a Can? may soon be canned themselves.

The maker of Four Loko, the highly caffeinated alcohol beverage, has agreed to stop sending the drink to New York distributors by Friday, officials announced Sunday.

Distributors also have agreed to stop supplying stores with the drinks by Dec. 10, with business still selling the beverages after that subject to fines.

?We have an obligation to keep products that are potentially hazardous off the shelves,? said State Liquor Authority Chairman Dennis Rosen.

The fruity-flavored drinks have already been banned in four states and have been implicated in the hospitalization of dozens college students.

Phusion Projects, the manufacturer of Four Loko, could not be reached for comment Sunday."
It puts a dozen college kids in the hospital and its obama's fault. Thats funny.

I'm not sure what the "blackout" part is...

The caffeine wakes you up. Most people I know (and I've know quite a few lol ) who blacked out did so from the alcohol. I drink Jaegar Bombs all the time (redbull and jaegar) and never "blacked out".

If anything they would be wide awake and drunk...and not even all that drunk since they would be sped up from the caffeine which counteracts the "downer" of the alcohol (the very reason people have used coffee and sodas to sober up for forever)

I know that if I fuck up and drink a little too much too early I always stop ordering alcohol and switch to coca-cola for a while to get some caffeine in me and to sober up a bit.

But I guess these bureaucrats in D.C. MUST have control over everything we do in our lives. :(

thank god the FDA protects us from these things...

i guess aspartame must have slipped through the cracks...

as well as hundreds of other chemicals they allow in our food sources that are known carcinogens...

great job FDA... :thumbsup

i bet if four loco was owned by coca cola, we wouldnt be having this discussion....

I think the bigger irony in their statement is that caffeine is an unsafe additive to alcoholic beverages. Like huh? Alcohol is perfectly safe...caffeine is the evildoer here, LOL. Cigarettes are awesome but holy fuck, pot is too dangerous to have freely legal! Lovely trends going on here.

Honestly...over the last few years I've been wondering when they were going to start labeling caffeine as "bad".

It's just as powerful a stimulant as ephedrine and even cocaine. But like alcohol and tobacco it's been a part of Western society for so long that it has escaped the govt. insanity.

I guess this is "step one" down the slippery slope for caffeine. Hell, they've gotten away with it with tobacco & alcohol as far as driving up the prices with "sin" taxes (direct taxation of the poor).

dyna mo 11-17-2010 11:52 PM

in the future, people will scratch their heads wondering why people stood in long lines and paid $5 for a cup of caffeine.

When I was a kid they said that in the future (which was gonna be the 1980's) we'd all have flying cars too. heh-heh

EDIT: They also said we'd be completely out of oil and have no gasoline by the end of the 1980's and we would be in the middle of an Ice Age brought on by fossil fuel use. lol

Exactly. I remember years ago before the whole Vodka Redbull thing started getting popular in the clubs up here in Canada, and before the huge "energy" drink fad swept through. This was back when the only way you could buy Redbull here was in a little brown bottle that looked like cough syrup and had no English on it. I was told way way back then, the only reason you couldn't get it was because it was terribly bad for you to mix with alcohol, and that there were distribution issues because of it. I don't know if there was any truth to that back then, but it was what I was told. Really blew my mind when I saw those Rockstar vodka drinks in the liquor stores.

you keep comparing doing illegal drugs to this drink. maybe thats why they want to ban it? you should show everyone how hardcore you are and drink a shit load of this stuff, and please keep a video camera handy.

the caffine in coca cola isn't even comparable to the amount in a cup of coffee let alone an energy drink.

How hardcore I am? LOL!

How about I snort an eightball of coke and pop a couple of prescription weight loss pills (speed) and wash it all down with a couple of cans of that shit? :1orglaugh

Hey, the REASON I compare them to "illegal" drugs is because THAT'S WHAT PEOPLE DO IN NIGHTCLUBS. Try getting out of the house some time poindexter. Come here to Vegas and I'll take you around to the best clubs in town. And you will see thousands of hot bitches who are jacked up on adderall and ritalin and cocaine.

That's the way it is when it's a Friday night and you want to party. Lighten up. Drinking that energy drink is a joke. It's just your govt. telling ADULTS that they can't think for themselves. They have no business doing so in this case.

Same people who decided it was the federal govt. place to tell you you can't get high smoking a plant. Our govt. was never meant to do these things.

So while you're getting frisked at the airport, having your phone tapped and your emails read, being told what you can and can't view or read or hear...while all that is happening you can at least feel safe knowing you won't drink too much caffeine.

Pepsi One has 55 milligrams of caffeine
Cup of Coffee has 90 - 150 milligrams of caffeine (try cuban coffee in Miami...it's like PURE caffeine sludge and wakes your ass UP!)

Four Loko? I have searched all over the internet and can't find the amount of caffeine that was in one.

Redbull, which is what I drink with a jaegarbomb, has 80 milligrams of caffeine in it.

ONE Vivarin pill has TWO HUNDRED milligrams of caffeine in it. I've seen people pop those all night long at work so they could stay awake and get things done. I've taken them many times over the years because I was in a band and we played every night. So if I was tired at the beginning of the night I'd take two or three Vivarin.

Before the federal govt. decided to ban ephedrine (mini thins that you bought at the seven-eleven over the counter), bodybuilders and people wanting to lose weight and gain muscle during their workouts did an "ECA Stack". Which is Epehdrine, Caffeine, & Aspirin which work synergistically together to burn fat.

This whole thing is horseshit and nothing more than another bureaucrat politician grandstanding and scaring people to show he is "looking out for them" so he can get their vote next election and continue milking the tax payer for his health care, salary, and graft and corruption.

I am not saying the government should be regulating any of this. Just saying there are reasons health professionals are saying to avoid this stuff. of course if you use hard drugs, who cares i guess but the average person who has no idea what they are putting in their body might want to know. banning it is too much but a warning label might be acceptable. i don't like coke, meth or any of that man made full of chemical shit (people on that shit annoy the hell out of me too, its like they just turn instantly stupid and hyper). i just smoke weed. i don't even drink coffee. if that makes you think im a "pointdexter", thats ok.

The issue is that it is an extraordinarily unhealthy product being marketed like it's fucking candy. Slap a warning label on them and be done with it. It's not like they're making it illegal to mix booze and energy drinks, and giving people criminl records, fines, or jail time for doing so. They're just bitchslapping companies for selling a potentially harmful drink prepackaged.

We all know Robbie is an adult who can do whatever he wants. We get it. So if Robbie wants Vodka and energy drink, go buy some fucking energy drink and put vodka in it... :2 cents:

I'm just joking around about the "poindexter" thing. :)

And yeah, a warning label is cool (it already has one for the alcohol doesn't it?). But telling us what we can and can't do is just too much. I think the people here in the USA are starting to get tired of it. For a country founded on self-reliance and keeping govt. off our backs...we've certainly found ourselves being owned by the govt. over the last few decades.
