here we go......................

This again?
A Mac is nothing but an overpriced PC.. want to run mac os then just pick up some compatible parts and install the OS. These days you can install the vanilla OS without modifying the kernel and with very few kext changes... |
|
Been using Apple for years.... never any complaints. Much smoother work flow once you get over the subtle learning curve.

I hate having to buy Apple hardware. But, I vow not to buy it and somehow get sucked back in.
My girl just showed up after work on Friday night with yet another iMac. There are no less than 7 Apple Computers that are actually used on a regular basis here...with a bunch of old ones up in the attic. That said, my little Dell Zino HD that's hooked up to my TV is my most favorite in the house...but my new MBP is catching up. http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/wp-cont...ll-zino-HD.jpg |
it all really depends what your uses on a computer are...
Ask yourself these questions: Is the added cost for programs an issue? Keep in mind there's limited free applications that are worth the bother but that purchased ones are sometimes of higher quality than PC alternatives. Do you have time for the learning curve? Is $1500 for a new bottom end Mac worth it to you? Do you plan to ever upgrade the machine's capabilities in the near future or is a re-purchase every 3 years acceptable? Apple's memory management is ho-hum. Anything graphically intensive will suck the balls out of your resources. Do you mind having to put as much ram as you can fit as bios updates become avail for larger sticks hitting the market. How hot is it where it will be located and is it dusty? Macs overheat very easily due to poor ventilation once clogged with dust. These are all issues that arose when I made the switch to a Mac. I sold it within a couple of months. I will say this though, the administration and bundled features work FLAWLESSLY right out of the box. I have never seen a wireless card function so damn well before. |
Apple computers are PC's....
|
Seems like there are more PC users here so far.
Lets see some posts of your office workstations!!! |
Lets see some 6 monitor monsters
|
Fuck me.
Again? Why not start a foreskin vs cut or Android Vs iOS one too? FFS |

I have a macbook pro, two things I like about it. The screen is beautiful, I shoot tethered so its a nice reference and I like the lighted keyboard. Could I have bought alot more pc for the price yep. But I was able to sell my macbook I bought for $700 after a year of using it. I bought it new on sale for $799.
The thing mac fanboys forget is the mac os has to work on what 5 products which apple builds and controls. Where windows has to work on possible million different combinations. I have win 7 on my pc desktop which is my main work pc and I like it alot. |
i hate limitations and restriction that's why i use PC.

After using Mac for some time I'd say there is no big difference, Windows 7 does it well. Only if you can work on a 13" I'd go with Apple, i like the product look and it's real silent.

Oh man, this is probably the only time I can use this, and it will be relevant. LUKE, Join the Darkside!
I've been a Mac guy for 15 years, in fact, I still have the 2nd mac I ever bought, and its still working perfectly. My partner and I upgraded our laptops last year, me a mac book pro, and he an HP Pavillion. His lappy was just in for service last week, mine, no issues at all. No I don't program, or do any funky stuff, its email, web, and photoshop mostly. I converted my parents over to Mac 5 years ago, and my support calls from them dropped off to almost none, so its user friendly. http://files.sharenator.com/join_the...157267-475.jpg |
Take this for what its worth...
I have a medical animation business running high end 3D software, editing and compositing programs. My render farm is made up of 6 PC's running Windows 7, networking flawlessly. I can upgrade components anytime the latest and the greatest comes out. If you buy a Mac, it will be pretty to look at and easy to use. It's not overclock or upgrade friendly, and costs more. Depends on what you need it for, I guess. |
PC's are for the true freedom of expanding.
Macs are for those who follow and are lead by the nose. |

There was once a time when Mac's multiple-threaded processors were better suited for design layout, autoCAD, and desktop publishing, but with today's technology this is really not a consideration.
It boils down to personal preferences. You guys are trying to compare Bentlys to Fords. A Bently costs much more, has fewer aftermarket options, but still ultimately does the same thing. Some people are willing to pay more for the style and status quo of driving a Bentley ... :thumbsup |
PC still in the lead...thanks all for taking the time to offer some insight

1) Apple is a COMPANY. 2) PC (personal computer) is a common name for the IBM-compatible platform. All Apple Macintosh computers are CLONES OF PC PLATFORM. So what was the actual question? Huh :disgust |
It's compulsory to use Mac's in my business, every new staff member gets a MacBook Pro the day they join us.
The reason, they just work. OS X is stable, we need no support for staff, the machines are well built and worth the cost. Also in Australia, the gap is closing between Mac and PC in price to the point that an iMac or 13" MacBook Pro is harder to exclude as a buying choice. |
I have a 27" iMac and its the best purchase I've ever made.
Will never go back to a PC |
|
I prefer PC simply because Steve Jobs is a fascist overlord of the fanboi empire. He has become his own 1984 commercial.

Do not buy a pre loaded windows machine. It comes with so much bullshit. I always build my PC's with Windows Pro versions only. I only install the professional operating system that is JUST the OS, NOTHING else. Then I install Adobe and all the editing products that are needed. Absolutely NO aftermarket products/software other that editing software, and every PC I build will DESTROY every MAC on this planet! Any YUPPY MAC USERS wanna make a 10k wager on this? |
I installed Ubuntu about eight months ago, would never, never, never go back to Windows. Macs are very nice but I see no reason to pay that much for a laptop or computer.
|
OS X Version upgrade 29.95, Windows version upgrade $xxx
We don't want to waste time installing operating systems, tweaking things etc. Show me an FTP client on a PC that's as easy to use and powerful as Fetch. Having the bash shell in a terminal window is great for our tech guys, that takes extra work on a Windows machine and isn't as compatible with our servers anyway. Installing a LAMP development stack is a one click process, X11 is built in. I could go on, but the reasons for us having Macs far outweigh any reason anyone could possibly give us to move to Windows. |
i love these threads
|
its simple decision:
- if you are targeting PC users or mass market - get a pc - if you are targeting mac users or very small market of rich geeks - get a mac always use the same equipment as ppl you are selling to :) |
