What' Your Cell Phone Bill
My daughter has an IPhone 4 (Ironically, after years of using a Blackberry, she finally magaes to exceed her data plan by using a piece of shit Apple phone. Never had any overage with the Blackberry...)
My son has a Nexus. Up until recently, be had some POS phone. No data plan, no "overages". This pisses me off: My son has a Nexus, my daughter traded her Blackberry for a fucking iPhone, and my bill has gone from $120 a month to over $500 a month. Meanwhile, I'm stuck using an LG Gossip. Actually, I love that phone. I have no interest in paying over $500 a month on stupid shitty phones that nobody actually needs - particularly not hippy, feeloading college students that I'm spending about 25 grand a year on to pay for their edumacations. Fucking insane. Welcome to the world Canadian data plans, socialism, and monopolies. We have a meeting set up for this weekend - and it will NOT be pretty. |
cell phone plans here in Canada SUCK compared to US ones. we get RAPPED, BAD.

Hi Garce,
Here's what you can do: 1st. You can see the usage by clicking on SETTINGS / GENERAL / USAGE / CELLULAR. 2nd : The iPhone lets you turn off Cellular data. Doing this will force it to use only your wifi connection. 3rd : Make sure that "Personal hotspot" is turned off. She or others may be tethering to it to connect to the Internet via the Cellular network which can be expensive. 4th. Use parental controls to lockout the changes : http://www.demogeek.com/2009/07/01/r...-restrictions/ There's also these and other apps to control data usage: http://dailyiphoneblog.com/2010/12/2...es-data-usage/ Etc etc etc. |
190.00 for 3 phones unlimited everything and insurance

your first mistake took place about 20 years ago. This has little to do with cell phones.
|

I canceled my cell phone. Was tired of paying $85/mo and only using maybe $10 worth. Working from home, I don't really need a phone. I just use Google Voice if I really need to call someone which I tend not to do anyway. |

Thank you for all the advice - and the Basket Case clip. I have city Fido for my own plan - a great deal. I've been with Fido since late 1996. No drama with my plan.
BUT!!! I am paying for my son's Android plan and my daughter's iPhone4 plan. Its not ONE cell phone plan - its three. Its not the contracts that bug me, its the blatant lying about the data plans. Also, my daughter's new iPhone costs twice as much as her Blackberry did. Props to Sleazy (once again, after all these years) for summing the situation up succinctly. In Canada, you get raped for owning a cellphone. Don't think its that bad? Try paying for two data plans, plus a generic plan. In Canada. BTW, I pay the bills - I have the right to bitch as much as I want. |
With bell I am paying less than 90 a month. I use a lot of bandwidth because I am constantly checking my 4 IP security cameras which use a lot of bandwidth. If I go over then they add 10 to the bill and up the limit by a few gigs. That way u don't pay an outrageous penalty per MB.

Used 35GB on my mobile phone last month.
|
Before I switched to this plan I once got a bill for 700 on my old blackberry, just because of my stupid security cameras.
|
hippy, feeloading college student?
post pics please :) |
35 a year unlimited plan. I never pay more than 50 a yeaR
|
I'm paying ~ $30 tax included for unlimited talk/text/data with a canadian new entrant.
|
Have an iPhone and it's around $100 a month unlimited. It sounds like you need to put her on a bigger plan (or unlimited) because you're mostly paying crazy overage fees.
|
I pay about $120 for 2 phones here in Toronto through fido.
I've got an Iphone, but I'm always on wifi and rarely make long distance calls. My sister in law says that Chatr wireless has unlimited data plans. |
I pay around $10 per month for prepaid service.. Has 3G and data too for some crap like 28 cents per gig. Works great and way cheaper than all you mofos!
|
AT&T. iPhone4, 450 talk minutes, unlimited text, unlimited data. $90 per month.
I pay for 450 minutes and use maybe 100 on average. I hate talking on the phone, its mostly for txt, email, checking stats, photos, video, and stuff like that. |
None of you guys have kids. Yay! I pay $10 for unlimited data (rofl).
In Canada, I pay 500 bucks a month for my daughter's iPhone, my son's Android thing, and my little city Fido account. We get ass raped on data up here. Thank GOD for monopolies! |

hah ... nada - zero - zilch - nuthin ... who needs a cell phone? SERIOUS! when i am not at the desk ppl can kiss my ass --- i am too cool to use a piece of shit that'd only steal my nerves when i am not in the mood for blablabla :2 cents:
|
$129 - 3 smartphones, unlimited everything on Sprint
|
If you have any kind of smartphone and are not on an unlimited plan you are asking for trouble (unless you want to disable most of the reasons to have a smart phone).
|
4 lines, 300 month unlimited...verizon.
|
I have an Optimus android phone with Virgin Mobile.
It's $35 now, but I'm grandfathered in at $25 per month for 300 minutes and unlimited data/text. I've used 200 minutes so far this month but normally I only use about 80. I do about 3,000 texts and a bunch of data a month though. |
Just wondering, what's your cost for your daughter's plan alone BEFORE overages ... and how many minutes does that plan get?
Regardless of the cost, you should tell your daughter that the next time she goes over her usage SHE pays for it. I bet she starts finding wi-fi hotspots to download shit instead from that moment forward :2 cents: |
Droid Charge with Verizon. 900 anytime minutes, unlimited mobile to mobile (on Verizon) and have unlimited to 5 friends and family that aren't on Verizon. I talk to the same people all the time for business, so dont need to worry about extra minutes
Data, including 4G is unlimited and so is text messages. Plan runs me about $110 after taxes each month. When I was with AT&T with my iPhone my bill was over $160/mo for unlimited talk, text and web. I remember back in the day when cell phone plans had local regions here in the US. You got a small territory, like a county or city and calls outside of that were long distance. First month I went to college my bill was $1300 in "long distance" charges, I thought my parents were going to kill me. Luckily my dad kept the brochure where the phone rep said it was still considered local |
Unlimited voice, text, and internet for $50 with no overages possible since everything is unlimited. No contract either. Sprint network via Boost. Overseas calls are about a penny via Vonage extensions for the mobile.
You're paying ten times much!?!? Remind me why I'd want to trade American Capitalism for Canadian socialism if it makes things cost ten times as much? |
