Do you eat tripe?

I really want to try it but my head can't get around what it is. Did you like it?

uno 01-30-2012 11:01 PM

The only two times I've ever eaten tripe, i almost threw up from the texture on the first bite. I hadn't had any subsequent bites since or during either of those meals. I thought puking all over the dinner table would upset my hosts.

brassmonkey 01-30-2012 11:31 PM

i picked out the tripe out of my menudo. my brother loves it.

Not for everyone :2 cents: that is for sure

Menudo for some, and for the Hungarians on the board its knows as "pacalporkolt" which is prepared a bit differently.

v4 media 01-31-2012 12:52 AM

It's one of the local Asturian specialities, not my favourite but I'll eat it.
it's cooked with ham, chorizo and black pudding.

diablom 01-31-2012 12:59 AM

I used to eat them while I was kid. Now I do not eat things made from organs, like liver, tongue, lungs and so on. I am very sensitive for food.

EddyTheDog 01-31-2012 01:02 AM

Only once, and that was by accident in Spain.

You are not mssing anything - It tastes every bit as good as it looks - :throwup

sexygamedesigns 01-31-2012 01:35 AM

I think I couldn't eat that. The texture and appearance of it would make me retch.

But I love haggis and the thought of that repulses people - even though its fantastic.

I'm asian, I've eaten it hundreds of times. If prepared correctly, its delicious.

BladeZ 01-31-2012 03:47 AM

In the Netherlands they feed it to large dogs.Or they use it as many other things in skinless sausages called frikandel.Everybody seems to love them. Not me,I worked for many years at an slaughter house and I know exactly what goes inside.

Is yummy if you make it into satay and dip it into spicy peanut sauce.

Fucking hilarious that was a carbon copy of my reaction! I couldn't spit it out fast enough. My body had a unnatural rejection to it.

BlackCrayon 01-31-2012 06:39 AM

eat too much of that crap and you'll get the gout.

Its the lining of a sheep goat or cows stomach. Used to be popular years ago in the UK cooked with onions

Jet Set Cat 01-31-2012 08:19 AM

As a kid I ate beef tripe at my grandmothers, it?s a cows stomach and it was delicious and also very healthy. She used to serve it in a red sauce.
Then one day I seen her preparing it from scratch, it smelled terrible and I mean terrible. It has to be soaked in water for like forever and you need to change the water frequently.
That smell was so bad I couldn?t eat it again. I would actually get nauseous at the sight of it and till today I still can?t stand it.
But I must say if I never seen and smelled it raw I would probably be eating it today.

Jo-Leigh 01-31-2012 08:22 AM

If you like Pho, try it in the mix the next time you're at a noodle house. It's chewy, and tasteless really. AND the kind I've had isn't big and brown like the other pictures above, but it's alright.

...now I want Pho.
