My first lesson in the porn industry
 

This is the 3rd day that I have officially (well, with a site that is) been in the porn industry. Before that I was just a web developer doing daily stuff for clients and using mediatemple for domains/hosting. Now, mediatemple is great - but not with porn, apparently. For now, my site is down and that's my first lesson - never, ever think you'll just experiment on a hosting that does not allow adult content, which is common sense, but I'm obviously lacking that.

So, I searched around GFY and found amerinoc to be the best choice for me, now waiting for the bloody DNS to update itself so I could start moving whatever is left of my site. This thread is for all the idiots out there, just like me.

But yes, always have a host that accepts adult. There are MANY that do unless it's some extreme site that can't even be billed for.

Let's review against the qualifications checklist, shall we?

1. Shot a "spec" scene for a big time "producer" that promised to pay if you proved you "know what to do".

2. Sold a membership to a program that is either owned by Manwin or about to be purchased by Manwin, or was bought by Manwin and discarded to the wasteland of under-performance purgatory.

3. Launched a website but had to shut it down due to any of the following, webmaster quit and took the day job at McD, host shut you down due to inappropriate content involving things that would get you incarcerated in over 30 countries, friends and family found out and demand that you quit "doing porn", and or you realize it is actually going to involve work.

4. You realize it is actually going to involve work and still decide to continue against great odds of failing because the world definitely has some people that will still pay for seeing... just... one more... naked... gaping... dripping... freshly fucked snatch.

5. You realize that you should be working with companies like Homegrown Video that will earnestly help you to not make the mistakes most people make when they get into the biz.

6. You get a cease and desist on a trademark on a domain name based on a word that you can't understand or agree should be able to be trademarked as a term.

There is an honorable mention given to anyone that braves coming out of the shadows where lurkers hide from scrutiny and actually posts on GFY and gets ridiculed mercilessly.

4. if you need a CMS for you site i'd suggest WordPress its more light weight than what you're using now, Joomla
5. as soon as you launch, your content will be stolen and posted on a tube site. watermark the hell out of it
6. limit the time you spend on gfy... a lot of knowledge on useless time wasting crap on this board. use it wisely.

I was thinking that, unless he is a content producer? I consider myself an internet marketeer rather than being in the porn biz.

As far as the lesson I spoke of...it was one I learned myself with amerinoc when I tried them out for a small project. Nothing but problems, database crashes ect... For his sake, hopefully he won't experience the same. Maybe I was just on the same shitty server that so many others seem to have also been on.

For your lesson, that would be a question you would need to ask Duke, as I am not involved in any aspect of where we advertise at outside of our internal sites. However, and I may be wrong, but I believe Duke has answered this question before.

Now, If you're in need of any custom promo content or would like to discuss link trades, then I'm the one to ask as that's what I do.
