Americans, do you wear your shoes inside?
 

Can anyone please give me a logical explanation to why some Americans wear their shoes inside?

"Hey! I've been walking around in my sweaty shoes all day, stepping in mud, dogshit, spit, puke, gum and other things but it doesn't matter because I will walk into my home, walk on the carpets and put my nasty ass shoes up on the table....".

Seriously, why do some of you wear your shoes inside? Dont you have to vacuum and clean the floors every other day?

I never wear my outside shoes past the entrance foyer. But I grew up in Hawaii where no one did.

Where do you live that you find yourself walking in mud, dogshit, spit, puke and gum on a [semi?] regular basis; and why are you putting your feet on the table?

I wear mine inside sometimes cause I'm too lazy to take them off. I have no carpet though all hardwood floors, don't even own a vacuum. :2 cents:

I have my home "shoes" when is cold, but i dont use it outside

I wear thongs (flip flops) pretty much every single day , so yes I wear them inside and out.

Always worn them inside. Never made a habit of treading in dog shit.

Funnily enough, I thought it was more of a non-american trend to wear shoes indoors.

in eastern Europe it's an offense to keep shoes on - everyone takes them off at the door. same in Asia as far as i have seen.

I think that the majority of Americans wear shoes or sneakers indoors. Of course growing up in the Northeast where there is snow or slush and mud in the winter, we would change boots or shoes at the door. But not in the other seasons. Now in South FL where the ground is mostly clean and I have terrazo floors I never take my shoes off. My house cleaner comes every week and cleans up real good. I would never have carpet again in any house I live in.

Considering most Americans do wear their shoes inside and considering most inside floors do not look like a barnyard, it seems to me that most Americans are not walking through pig shit.

My wife is Japanese, so we generally remove our shoes in the foyer, and wear house slippers inside. :)

Oddly, I don't care if people take their shoes off when they come over ... but I always remove mine.

I am the same way; and I am not really inclined to remove my shoes in other people's homes unless they request it.

Funny you ask this because I had never really thought about it. Living in the Midwest as I do, I have always changed from my outside shoes to my "inside shoes" before I start tramping around the house. The Midwest is normally a desert or a swamp so outside conditions tend to crud up one's shoes and the floors if one wears the outside shoes inside.

I have a rack for the outside shoes near the door.

We agree there, too. Unless people ask me to, I don't presume to know their preference. They might think that feet outside of shoes are dirtier, for example. If I know I'm going to be somewhere else for an extended time (hotel, someone's house), I bring "house shoes" that never see the outside.

me too, but they smell bad so quickly... tried the slippers in freezer trick and it seemed like it worked. So far so good.

It's not just a US thing, I lived in the Netherlands where it was also quite common for people to wear their shoes inside.
I actually regularly got weird looks when I asked people to take off their shoes when they entered my place. Very weird culture to keep your outdoor shoes on when inside the house.

Indeed strange. I assume people wear socks on their feet so why should you walk with shoes on inside a house? No one does that here in Sweden or actually any other place I've ever been. This ofc not counting public inside places, restaurants etc where you ofc wear your shoes.

It's the EUROPEAN Culture that came to All American Countries 100 years ago.

In Japan not only do we take our shoes off at the door and put on slippers, but we also have a second set of slippers or flips flops to wear inside the bathroom only!

I'm also OCD about all the shit that could be on your shoe, so I take mine off also -- and I also make guests take their shoes off also. Especially on carpet.

I dated a girl in New York years ago. After a long night out at clubs and hole in the wall bars in the city, we went back to her place. She would just jump on the bed with her dirty-ass bathroom bar shoes still on. One time she faced the opposite direction, so her feet were on her pillow. I didn't say anything because I was horny, but I made sure that pillow was off the bed before we got busy.

When I lived in the US, never took my shoes off unless they were dirty. If you came to my house I would not want you to take your shoes off. I don't want to smell your foot odour nor do I want to see your footcrud on your nasty feet. I never wore shoes into the bedroom.

Now I live in Asia and no shoes inside. I get to watch people pick crud from their feet while they are visiting me. Quite disturbing tradition for me.

I think the pillow would be the last thing I'd be worrying about with a girl like that :Oh crap
