95 year old war veteran shot by police in a nursing home.

Family members are questioning the death of a 95-year-old WWII U.S. Air Corps sergeant who killed by cops at an assisted living center last month after resisting medical treatment.

John Wrana died from injuries sustained in an incident, which was later ruled as a homicide by the medical examiner, by Park Forest police on July 27. Police were called to Victory Centre, according to the Chicago Tribune, when it was reported by faculty that he was being ?combative,? resisting medical treatment to which he was being ?involuntarily? committed to.

It is like police are picked at random..you there..yes you...want a gun laddie?

take this badge and this gun...remember you are in charge everywhere you go...go have fun now.

He was shot with a beanbag... not a bullet. He was threatening staff with a butcher knife among other things.

Why are facts so irrelevant to so many people here?

Why is it so necessary to make every single incident look like something its not?

He was shot with a beanbag which they say was what caused him to die. He was 95.
He was sitting in his chair...and staff say they did not even see him pick up a knife.

How is this looking like it is something that it is not? lol

How many brown shirts do you own?

They didn't see it - It could have happened then?..

I was a nurse in a former life and I have been attacked by some pretty scary OAPs in my time, including with weapons...

It was a beanbag - I can see fighting off an OAP with a beanbag - It even makes sense.....

If you are a cop and feel the need to resort to violence against a 95 year old man. Who is sitting down. You are a loser.

If you read the whole thing, when they shot him he was sitting alone in a room all by himself a threat to no one.

I'm sure a stern talking would have set him straight. Perhaps a threat of revoking his apple pie dessert rights.

MagicWand 08-06-2013 06:48 PM

i can only imagine how brittle this old gent was

They could have shut the door and came back with apple pie in an hour.

If there was a '12 inch knife' involved as reported then you are wrong - A pissed off 95 year old can inflict some pretty serious damage...

Absolute truth - I have had to restrain a 103 year old women - It was in XXXX and I will tell you it was not easy.....

She died that night - It's a last 'fight' if you like...

EDIT: Identifying info removed.....

brassmonkey 08-06-2013 07:07 PM

id be a cop if i can beat and kill people :evil-laug id turn the nice neighborhoods upside down

MrBottomTooth 08-06-2013 08:03 PM

How the hell did he get a 12 inch knife in his room? My family owns a nursing home and we'd get violated by inspectors for letting a resident keep a jar of vaseline on their dresser.

how exactly do you taser and shoot a 95 year old in the stomach, while he is holding a knife? possibly a cane?

he 'dropped the knife'? wtf?

You don't know what happened - I can see how that shit could happen as I have explained - If you know what happened then lets lynch the policeman...

Jman 08-06-2013 08:55 PM

Next thing you know they will gun down a cat for purring. Cops are way to young when they graduate... At least that is the problem we have here in Quebec. I do not trust a kid girl or boy in their 20's with guns and bullet proof vest... PERIOD!!!!!

Hell id trust a boyscout before trusting a trigger happy power head in their 20's

The Chicago Tribune?s John Kass reported Maria Oliva with Pathway Senior Living, which runs the assisted-living center, saying staff was not in the room after police arrived to subdue Wrana. This, Kass said, shows ?there was no imminent threat to staff? at the time Wrana would have picked up the alleged knife.

Kass also reported that after police barred staff from the room, workers expressed how they wished to re-enter to try and calm Wrana again. They were refused.

?At some point, I?m told there were between five and seven police officers, they went back to the room with a riot shield in hand, entered the door and shot him with a shotgun that contained bean-bag rounds,? Grapsas said of the situation according to Kass.
There will probably be stories that come out that the old vet was mixing skittles and watermelon ice tea in with his medication too, and the 5-7 cops feared for their lives. :upsidedow

You'd think it'd be easy to avoid cops in a nursing home.

Thanks. That's the first time I even looked at my post count since around 8,000.

A ninety-five year old man threatens people with a cane and then a knife, refuses police orders... And then gets shot with what is expected to be a non lethal round. And the problem is... What?

Um, btw, it seems the man was hit with a stun gun before he was hit with the bean bag...

javbucks 08-06-2013 09:54 PM

He was 95!~ I spend quite a bit of my week helping my 93 year old gran and I can tell you right now, if she was *wielding* a knife, I could take it off her with absolutely no one getting hurt.

Howeve rI am sure this guy was fit as a fiddle and could decapitate a man with a spoon.

at close quaters (like the rooms in nursing homes) a beanbag round from a shotgun could kill a fit, young person, let alone a geriatric in need of care... If he had already been tasered (which is also going too far in my opinion) there would have been no need to shoot him as well. This is a fucking disgusting act by heavy handed cops. I hope they lose their jobs.

DWB 08-07-2013 01:28 AM

Don't want to be logical or anything, but don't police carry pepper spray?

And having worked at a retirement home, I know many of them have on staff security who are equipped for such things.

Did you read the whole thing? There probably was no knife,it was probably the excuse the cop used after fucking up. Also even if he had a knife he was sitting in a chair alone in a room by himself. No staff in the room and they asked the police to let them try to calm him down. They decided to shoot him instead. I felt threatened. Its like the cop get out of jail free card.
