We've become a nation of weaklings
I turn on the local news this morning and nearly every school in the state is closed today, because it's cold. This is Wisconsin, It's supposed to be cold.
I don't remember the schools ever closing 30 years ago. And if they did, it was a blizzard going on. |

theyll be attending school deep into summer making up for the lost -cold days-. back in the day 5" on the ground with slush an your ass is walking to school. now a days 1 snow flake its a state of emergency an their closing government offices.
|
Yep it is official.
America was once known as land of the free and home of the brave is now the land of the fags and the homo of the pussies. How far we have fallen. |
My wife is from WI also, I asked her about it and she said no it never happened when she was in school but it wasnt as cold as it is now.
We went to visit my inlaws once in Feb one year. It was zero the whole time. Since I lived in Atl for so long I didnt have the proper clothes putting gas in the car, no gloves, no hat ,in a hoodie it actually fucking hurt it was so cold. lol Its a state of extremes, extreme cold and then for the brief summer extremely hot. It gets hotter up there then it does in GA its weird. I wouldn't mind extreme cold if the summers were mild. |

This is from Socrates : ?Our youth now love luxury. They have bad manners, contempt for authority; they show disrespect for their elders and love chatter in place of exercise; they no longer rise when elders enter the room; they contradict their parents, chatter before company; gobble up their food and tyrannize their teachers.? |

Every generation says that about the generation before it. This is from Socrates : “Our youth now love luxury. I saw on the local news the other night that this Jan was the coldest month in 35 years. Today in my area of Indiana or high is going to be 1 F and wind chills of -35 F.
We went out in the 4x4 yesterday and cause of the 30-50 MPH wind gusts we saw drifts over 6 ft tall I remember the blizzard of 1978 and the whole city was shut down with 18-24" of snow dropped on us. The only people that were out were people with snowmobiles or people walking to local stores for food.. Stop with 30 years ago nothing was ever shut down cause I grew up in Northern IN and I remember many snow days growing up for really bad storms like this. |
I used to love seeing the temps drop like that. Putting on as many layers as you could literally stand in used to be a challenge.
People will argue today that there may be some families who can't afford the snow gear, but you can buy a full snow suit for a kid for like 10 bucks at a value village or maybe even cheaper at a salvation army store. so that is out the window with me. |
Nothing to do with being "weaklings", but it has everything to do with litigation and frivolous lawsuits that schools have to fear.
. |
Yes, and you walked 6 miles uphill both ways to school in -100 degree weather!
|
you can blame people being so litigious these days.
|
then we also have 40 car pile ups
http://www.npr.org/blogs/thetwo-way/...lved-in-pileup and this happened just 10 mins from me a few days ago http://www.wsbt.com/news/local/polic...z/-/index.html The roads and the snow doesn't look that bad at either but white out road conditions happen really fast and these photos were taken long after the accidents I was just watching the weather and they are saying in some areas of South Bend, IN they have up to 10 foot drifts.. If that isn't blizzard like conditions I don't know what is for Indiana. No I'm not saying that isn't normal in MN or WI. |
Agreed 110%

Every generation of humans is weaker and smarter than the previous one. You are a pussy compared to any ordinary caveman. You are a genius compared to the smartest man alive 1000 years ago. The same will be true of your progeny. Evolution exists... yes, even in Wisconsin ;)
|
I'm from Iowa, about the same whether as lower Wisconsin. I graduated in 2001. We had school cancellation days for the following: too hot, ice. Never for being too cold, though as Tony mentioned I don't remember it ever being this cold for such a long stretch of time, so hard to say.
|
Lived in northwest ohio pretty much all my life and I don't ever remember it being this cold or snowing this much in January. Throw in the wind and you have 4+ foot drifts on the rural roads that drift as soon as the plows go by.
Most of the kids have to be bused or drive themselves from the rural areas |
Schools are the only thing closed around here. For the rest of us..it's Monday.

I have a friend who is a school administrator. He has to play the game in public about safety etc, but in private he says it's just easier to call days off than deal with parents calling and bitching about not calling off school, and the lawsuit threats that if won could cripple districts that may be smaller and less funded. |
One less day (fully paid of course) that the teachers don't have to deal with snot nosed smelly zombie brats.
|
yes, because gfy.com is the perfect place to discuss your local school closures.

Maybe our administrators should read your peoples *how to manage a school*manual. |

BTW Weren't they talking about changing Super Bowl day if it's to chilli? :1orglaugh |
I grew up in Northwestern NJ, almost in PA, on top of the mountains there. When it snowed, we were snowed in and that was that. It would take days for the plows to reach us and we were always prepared for it. We spent our summers gathering wood, fall raking up the leaves (two acres worth!), winters shoveling snow, and spring unfucking the damage winter just did. It was a vicious cycle.
Fuck that. I love where I live. We still have seasons, and snow is half an hour away if I want to see it bad enough. |

Facebook is where people post shit like this thread. Stuff about school closures. Moaning about pointless shit. This is a porn forum for adult web masters. I know you're not in porn, so I guess you got confused. |

Only time I can remember school being closed in the snow was because some of the teachers lived about 30 miles away and couldn't get there.

However, there are a lot of other non-adult related threads on GFY today. Are you going to go into those threads and post about how they shouldn't be here or making non-adult related threads. |
At the temps they are having in IN you will have frostbite in less than 10 minutes.
It is not just schools that are closed; things like trash pickup are being suspended for two days so adults are not harmed by the weather. |
|
It was pretty fucking cold in Minneapolis this morning. At my house I showed -23f when I woke up. With wind they said it was -53f. Dangerous if you are not dressed for it.
My son is pissed about all the days they are missing because it means they are going to add it on at the end of the year. He would rather go to school now when its shitty versus 80 degrees in June. |
