Scientist Charly Rose Blames Extreme Winter on GoreBull Warming

During the February 13 broadcast of CBS This Morning, host Charlie Rose and his guest turned to the topic of this year's harsh winter, calling the extreme cold an example of global warming.

Guest Michio Kaku, a physics professor from New York City College--not a climatologist, but a physicist--claimed that the "wacky weather" could get "even wackier" and its all because of global warming. "What we're seeing is that the jet stream and the polar vortex are becoming unstable. Instability of historic proportions. We think it's because of the gradual heating up of the North Pole. The North Pole is melting," professor Kaku said.

"That excess heat generated by all this warm water is destabilizing this gigantic bucket of cold air... So that's the irony, that heating could cause gigantic storms of historic proportions," the prof explained.

This was all because of global warming, Rose insisted.

mikesinner 02-15-2014 02:14 PM

Scientists have been saying global warming will cause harsh winters and summers for a long time. Do you guys even science?

EonBlue 02-15-2014 03:54 PM

This is the kind of nonsense you get when people believe that the history of the world has happened within their lifetime.

gorebull warming, funny. I like it.

oppoten 02-15-2014 04:17 PM

The BBC have also been blaming the UK storms on global warming.

Or "climate change", as they tend to call it when the weather isn't warm lol

dyna mo 02-15-2014 04:26 PM

It's kinda sad that celebrity physicists are considered legitimate scientists free to pontificate about shit they know nothing about in front of millions of viewers.

this koko guy and that dumbgrasse tyson dude head the list.

Most global warming doubters can't see past the "coined" term global warming. They can't seem to understand the concept that global warming means "average global tempture" and that it doesn't mean winter will be warmer or have less storms. Sadly most of these people probably pray for better weather while reading about Jesus and dinosaurs.

The other half that don't believe in Jesus and dinosaurs simply deny it because their political football team tells them that science is big bad and evil..

So super cold storms,, caused by melting polar ice caps, grow the polar ice caps by 29% in one year alone... all due to the fact that the polar ice caps are shrinking.... in spite of predictions that they would be nearly gone already.... confusing stuff...

Yeah yeah, every single global warming prediction has been wrong. I love how when there's more cold weather records broken than anytime in history, that's "weather". When it gets hot in the Australian Outback, that's "climate".

Face it dude, the global warming hoaxers have been caught lying, fudging numbers, faking data, distorting results, and drawing faulty conclusions for more than a decade now. But I get that you rubes need your religion to get by.

To be fair - most of the human created warming was done during the last decades or century+. More than during all the previous times combined.

Buff 02-15-2014 10:01 PM

The problem with climate change is that it's an agenda-driven movement by state-supremacists. They NEED man to be responsible for this imaginary climate catastrophe because then they get the moral authority to tell us how to live.

For some reason, these idiots can't understand that the Earth's climate is directly, almost exclusively, related to the giant nuclear fusion reactor 333,000 times the mass of Earth sitting 8 minutes away. Stupid shits.

False. That's just what they would have you believe. It has been far warmer in the past without any "human created warming". Study the history of climate on the earth on geologic time scales.

EddyTheDog 02-15-2014 11:16 PM

I am sure there is climate change happening - What I am not sure about is what is causing it - It could be us or it could be a natural process, part of a natural cycle...

My guess is that it is a natural cycle but we have had an influence on the speed of it.....

Most global warming alarmists can't see past the the "false" term global warming. They can't seem to understand that global warming means absolutely nothing since the global temperature has been much higher in the past and that the idea of an ideal global temperature is pure fabrication. Sadly most of these people wish for colder temperatures while praying at the altar of Al Gore.

You are just another person whom claims you know what you are talking about but are very wrong. You just claimed global temperature was higher in the past.. Yet you are wrong unless you are talking about when the planet was no fit for human habitation.

You are a perfect example of the ignorance that comes out of the right wing and let's face it, no one but the right wing denies global warming. You guys never have any facts or stats, you just bitch and moan about Al Gore.

Quote:

The year 2013 tied with 1980 as the 37th warmest in 119 years of data for the contiguous 48 U.S. states, according to the National Climatic Data Center (NCDC). This follows the record warmth of 2012, which was substantially warmer?a full degree Fahrenheit (0.6°C)?than any other year since national records began in 1895.
https://www2.ucar.edu/climate/faq/ho...last-100-years

There were 3 years in which it cooled in the last decade which is what you head in sand types love to chant about, but what you ignore is from 2011 til 2013 it went right back to warming and 2012 was the warmest year since records were kept, starting in 1895. 2013 was in the top 40 warmest years since those records were kept. This means even with 3 cooling years the 10 year trend is still warmer.. Hence AVERAGE global tempture is in fact warming just like scientist have side.. Oh and yea Al Gore too..

That's just the US. If you look at the entire world..it's just the same...

Quote:

In the Northern Hemisphere, where most of Earth's land mass is located, the three decades from 1983 to 2012 were likely the warmest 30-year period of the last 1400 years, according to the IPCC.
There is no argument from scientist about Global Warming, their is only an argument from polices makers whom take money from big oil.. Again The term Global Warming is biased on 10 year trends biased on scientific data... not hey guys we got a lot of snow this year Global warming is a lie look it's winter and it's cold out side..

crockett 02-16-2014 07:42 AM

At what point was the planet "not fit for human habitation"?

Just curious. 1000 years ago? 10,000? 200,000?... 2,000,000?

given the earth is estimated to be 4 billion years old, how does one draw conclusions on man made warming with 120 years of data?

or does snowball earth & the jurassic era not count cause there were no cars back then?

& given the numerous non man-made inputs to climate (sun, tides, el ninos, jet streams, ice formations, volcanos) how are scientists so certain that carbon is the cause of "global" warming over all other inputs? they dont even know what causes el ninos, but whatever.

Maybe all this warming is nothing more than a natural cycle between ice ages. How are climate change advocates so smart to know better?

climate change is the same as religion. see the facts you want to see, & believe.

During the past billion years, the Earth's climate has fluctuated between warm periods?sometimes even completely ice-free?and cold periods, when glaciers scour the continents. In this article, climate scientist Kirk Maasch offers perspective on these historic changes, including the likely causes of the last great ice age?which contrary to common knowledge, we are still in the midst of.
Quote:

Although the exact causes for ice ages, and the glacial cycles within them, have not been proven, they are most likely the result of a complicated dynamic interaction between such things as solar output, distance of the Earth from the sun, position and height of the continents, ocean circulation, and the composition of the atmosphere.

Joshgirls, the whole of the academic field of climatology just got told. This is a natural weather cycle, nothing to worry about. Good thing we have guys like you around to keep the Ph.d's straight.

The scientific opinion on climate change is that the Earth's climate system is unequivocally warming, and it is extremely likely (at least 95% probability) that humans are causing most of it through activities that increase concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere, such as deforestation and burning fossil fuels.Individual scientists, universities, and laboratories contribute to the overall scientific opinion via their peer-reviewed publications, and the areas of collective agreement and relative certainty are summarised in these high level reports and surveys.

Not false. I know that it was warmer in the past. I am merely saying that humans did a lot of "burning" over the past 100 years. So that is why people think it may add to the big picture.

I studied geography and geology in university and took courses in atmosphere and climate. I'm not a scientist but I know a lot more about this stuff than the average person including you no doubt. I have been following this debate closely for 20 years. I used to be on the alarmist side of the fence but since I was taught to think for myself I began to notice that the case for alarmism didn't add up and I gradually drifted over to the rational side.

You are a perfect example of the arrogance and authoritarian mindset that comes out of the left wing and let's face it, no one but the left wing denies it has been warmer in the past. No one is denying global warming or climate change. But there are plenty of real credible scientists that question the causes of global warming and climate change and who question whether a bit of warming is going to be catastrophic or not.

Fact: warming is better than cooling.

I actually feel sorry for people who seem to know very little, if anything. Global warming doesn't ONLY mean it will get warmer. It means that the weather in general will get more extreme. The temps will go up, winter will be more crazy, storms will be tougher, oc.t.
