thinking about stopping going to the movies.

the hassle is greater than the return. yappity people who talk and text during the movie, lame ass movies, sticky floors, wondering if some psycho is gonna start shooting. >$60 to suffer through Pixels 3d.

2 adults and 2 kids going out to the movies in central London - Add transport and meals - An easy $200 night out...

Watch it in HD on your large screen TV for free, $20 for a couple of pizzas - Hollywood is fighting a losing battle - Just like us.....

You bring up great points! ESPECIALLY the some psycho might start shooting shit. Wow.

Most movies suck balls these days anyway.

Costs me $13 to see a movie at the good IMAX, not the fake IMAX. Eat at home before you go.

JTFC! that's outrageous. but it goes straight to my point about lame ass movies. good movies are being produced to attract a family of 4, to get that big return you mention, that means the movies are PG-13 with unsophisticated character dev and plot lines when they absolutely should be R-rated.

like Pixels 3d, the special effects are pretty dang good, but it's a nostalgia movie, the people that appreciate those video game characters are adults, but the movie casts a wide net and consequently, gets dumbed down, it should have been much edgier.

Same price for 3-D or no 3-D. It's at the history museum here. They just rebuilt it this past winter, it's great.

the thing is, statistically it's silly to even consider a psycho going psycho, but i admit, it crosses my mind every time. that in itself isn't enough to keep me away from the theater though, but that and just the overall movie going experience being, let's say, underwhelming and over-priced. well, is IMAX 3d really worth that? i don't know.

this whole thing is a plot by Netflix and amazon to keep people home and stream video :2 cents:

Bladewire 07-25-2015 01:18 PM

When we first moved to Australia my kid and I both got lice from the tall back movie theatre seats.

Hasn't stopped me from going to the movies since, just a reminder of how unclean some can be. :thumbsup

oh, i'm with you, any one or 2 or 3 of the negs isn't a deal-breaker. it's the gestalt of it all though, it adds up to make me question if i'm getting a good ROI on my entertainment dollars.

i'm thinking it's more about these lame-ass movies than anything else. Like Terminator genisys, which i was super looking forward to and did not go see because it was dumbed-down to PG-13. and that decision to pass was because age of ultron sucked so bad, wow, zero character dev, they had too many characters they needed to have in the movie so none got any detail, so why should i care about them when they blow shit up?

OneHungLo 07-25-2015 01:49 PM

Pretty much all the theaters around here have been converted to these bigger, reclining seats with reserve seating, which is pretty killer.

The theater closest to me has gone to this. The seats rock. It is $12 a seat so it is a little more than a normal ticket, but not really that much more.

That said, there are still often people talking, chomping on food etc. These days I have to really want to see a movie to go to the theater otherwise I just wait for DVD and watch it at home.

TheSquealer 07-25-2015 04:41 PM

It's increasingly difficult to justify for me. Seems movies get worse and the chatter, noise and cell phone use increases. I'm to the point there there are only a few theaters in the right part of town that I can go to without listening to a bunch of little self entitled pricks waving phones around or talking or making noise.

Let's face it: in ten years there will be no more movie theaters.

Maybe you could start going out in the wilderness with theking?

wehateporn 07-25-2015 05:58 PM

I stopped going for years, now I really appreciate it, love a bit of escapism, but my cinema sounds nicer than yours too, Brits don't talk during the movie

I go to the first show of the day. It's $5. Reserved loungers just like those.

I use to be the type that had to see new movies opening weekend. These days if it's a movie I have to see in the theater then I wait 3 weeks and go in the middle of the week. Far less crowded and I always get the seats I wanted.

that's another part of it that's been aggravating. but driving around LA/OC trying to find those spots is a chore. time of day helps both issues, but during the summer- forget about it. the movies are full all day and night and traffic is rough if you have to go more than 10 miles.

Read this. They censored it so that it wouldn't offend the Chinese. So now that gets factored in all big productions. You don't want to alienate such a huge market now!

Sony Made Pixels Even Lamer to Appease Chinese Authorities

I'm with you. It's really not worth it to me. I had this conversation with my GF a few years back about movies. We both agreed that it just wasn't worth the time, expense and aggravation. IF something is out that I want to watch, I drive to certain theaters in certain areas of town where people are clearly more polite and considerate, to watch them.

L-Pink 07-25-2015 06:30 PM

I don't know what's worse, rude black women talking thru the movie or white idiots shooting the place up.

that's fucked up. prolly explains why they tapped adam sandler too, that article links to an article about how sucky he was in it and he was super sucky. but apparently his name opens doors or something, can't figure out why he was cast.

prolly also explains why they made terminator genisys pg-13.

L-Pink 07-25-2015 06:40 PM

So now the finished product we're supposed to pay for was made to pass Chinese censors?

i suspect that's just the tip of the iceberg re: all the shit a production has to pass to get funded and made.
