Russian naval activity in Europe exceeds Cold War
https://i.imgur.com/acj60VX.jpg
BERLIN (Reuters) - Recent Russian naval activity in Europe exceeds levels seen during the Cold War, a top U.S. and NATO military officer said, voicing concern that the distributed nature of the deployments could end up "splitting and distracting" the transatlantic alliance. Navy Admiral Michelle Howard, who heads NATO's Allied Joint Force Command in Naples and commands U.S. naval forces in Europe and Africa, said Russia had clearly stepped up its naval actions in recent years although the size of its navy was smaller now than during the Cold War era. "We're seeing activity that we didn't even see when it was the Soviet Union. It's precedential activity," Howard told Reuters in an interview late on Saturday during a missile defense conference. Howard cited a wide range of activities, including Russia's deployment of its Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier to the Mediterranean, increased patrols in the north Atlantic and Arctic region, significant out-of-area submarine deployments, and submarine movement in the Black Sea. "They're a global navy, I understand that. But the activity in this theater has substantially moved up in the last couple of years," Howard said. She said there was a danger that members of the NATO alliance would focus on the area of interest closest to them, while losing sight of Russian activities in other areas. "When ... you think about what happens when they move forces around, you look at the alliance and they end up splitting and distracting the view of the alliance," she said. Howard's comments came amid a sharp escalation in tensions between Russia and the United States after Washington launched 59 cruise missiles against an air base in Syria in retaliation for a deadly toxic gas attack that killed scores of people. article... |

The sanctions placed on Russia have been very effective since they targeted the MOB within the government. Putins very public aggressive stance has proven that.
It provides a double whammy when you consider the low oil prices and lower revenue for them since they stole the oil company's from their rightful owners. They can not sustain a wider engagement for very long. Whatever they do in the next 6 months will be with a limited time-frame in mind. The operations in Syria are fairly costly to them so additional long-term engagements are unlikely. Putin has his own political problems at home so he must activate nationalism by challenging the US to maintain his power which is very much weaker lately. Saber rattling. All very interesting to see how the next few months will be played. I expect to see a bunch of headlines that have little overall meaning in the grander picture. But could stir up things in the US. |
I call horse shit, I was part of the cold war and the Russian Fleet is no where near the size of the USSR Fleet

If major powers used tactical nuclear weapons half the world would be a parking lot and the survivors would need protective suits and breathing apparatus to venture above ground.
Shit-holes not worth bombing would be the only inhabitable places on the planet. Buying property in Africa or South America might make sense if this is the future you see. |
Wow really guys?
Here are facts: TOP NAVIES IN WORLD. 1. US NAVY The US NAVAL FORCE is the most powerful and capable navy in the world. The video above is a demonstration of an obsolete (not produced anymore) Soviet cruise missile SS-N-22 Sunburn made in 70s-80s of the past century and those were not even equipped with tactical nukes which is "a must" nowadays. Nobody will attack an aircraft carrier battle group like Japs in a Midway style. One tactical nuke exploded 50-100 meters above the floating circus will do the trick. Use of tactical nukes against the US air carriers is a part of Russian military doctrine. You say that nukes will turn the attacked territory into a parking lot. That's wrong, comrade. The fallout of modern tactical nukes is extremely low, comparing to the ones uses in Hiroshima and Nagasaki. How many nuclear tests were made in the Soviet Union and in the USA right near the populated places? http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2016/...3532856410.jpg I've been to Las Vegas a few times and it does not look like a nuclear desert, I swear. |
i just dont understand why there is no treaty reducing nuclear bombs in biggest countries, to lets say 50 MT, and for smaller countries, to lets say 10 MT....

Also to destroy a city like Vegas I'm sure you Russians have at least 10 nukes pointed in that direction.. It's not a case of a single nuke going off, it would be 100s.. That's where the whole nuclear winter/desert idea comes from.. That many nukes going off world wide would have fall off.. Sure people would survive but it's not gonna be fun.. |

Leader: Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi Headquarters: Raqqa, Syria In Syria, the group conducted ground attacks on both government forces and opposition factions, and by December 2015 it held a large area in western Iraq and eastern Syria containing an estimated 2.8 to 8 million people, where it enforced its interpretation of sharia law. ISIL is now believed to be operational in 18 countries across the world, including Afghanistan and Pakistan, with "aspiring branches" in Mali, Egypt, Somalia, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and the Philippines. As of 2015, ISIL is estimated to have an annual budget of more than USD$1 billion and a force of more than 30,000 fighters. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islami...and_the_Levant |
Baghdadi needs to line his 'soldiers' up in one place where he can count them :2 cents: ;=)
RECOUNT! |
I think we're gonna see a lot of military grandstanding to keep the FBI investigations out of the media.
I hope it's real and we beat down NK , then I hope we go-to South China Sea, and Russia gets a new president, and we work with Russia to beat down China and destroy those man-made islands. Then we let Russias new president take care of Syria's Assad in an ethical way with our backup if requested. Then we lift sanctions on Russia's new president and make lots of money together taking oil from Antarctica with the help of Canada and the New Britain :thumbsup |
Meantime ...

2) I'm talking about tactical nukes (just a few times more powerful than those exploded over Hiroshima and Nagasaki) that have to be used for rather small targets like the US aircraft carrier battle groups, the missile defense systems in Poland etc. Those are not WMDs. The missiles that will be launched at Las Vegas and other cities is a way different story. Those are strategic ones. One SS-18 missile aka Satan is able to burn out a whole state like Texas. So please don't confuse tactical nukes with strategic ones. 3) I have used Las Vegas as en example of a city, located near the nuke testing zone. Quote:

There are 18 Ohio class SSBNs (Nuclear powered) US Submarines 14 with ballistic missiles and 4 retrofitted with tactical cruise missiles.
They are either a preemptive first strike capability or a doomsday assurance. The earth will not survive as we know it in the event of a nuclear war -- so the argument is pointless -- 90% of humanity would end up dead from a nuclear war within just a few years. You sure you want you childrens generation to be the race of the mole-people ? We cannot realistically destroy all the nuclear and chemical weapons in the world and even if we could man would make them again. One day we are doomed. The mutant cockroaches may inherit the earth one day. |
I'm absolutely fine with that. If Poland would have nukes, current ministry of defense would start ww3 in 10 minutes...

why not ? I dont understand ? It only requires some will on all sides.
I said already: 50 MT to few biggest countries, 10 MT to smaller ones, thats all. If humanity can create bots, robots, nanotechnology, heal people, surveil people and nations...I dont nderstand where would be the problem here ? Quote:

it is still too much though.
should be like 1-2 MT for big players and 100-200 KT for small players Quote:

I think if the US, China, Russia, Britain, EU ect.. ever attacked another naval ship of their adversary it would mean all out war including nukes.. (I'm talking ships from the big boy countries) I'd say the only navy ships that anyone could attack with out it being all out war would be from third world shit holes.. Like the Somalian pirate Navy.. lol they are ok to sink.. Now with that said, I could possibly see a sub getting taken out but it would be extremely risky for any of the big hitter to do..The reason I say a sub, is because it would take a long time to determine "why" it went down which would be enough time to cool down the situation. For instance, I could see someone taking out say one of Iran's diesel/electric subs because no way could Iran ever prove who took it out. They could claim it was the US all day long but no one would listen to them because they aren't reliable source of info. For the record the US had tactical nukes that were launched like a mortar charge. Ironically they were called the "Davy Crockett" my dad used to work on them when he was in the military, this was during Vietnam.. (no that's not where my name came from) |
