Confusion over what caused reported 'explosion sounds' at the venue as thousands 'seen 'fleeing in tears' and 'covered in blood'

There are a number of confirmed deaths at Manchester Arena following a reported explosion at an Ariana Grande concert, police have said.

Twitter users reported thousands of concert goers fled the arena covered in blood and crying, although it is not immediately clear what the reported "loud bangs" were.

The noises were heard towards the end of the show, with witnesses claiming on social media they believed the bangs were a "gun shot" or a "bomb".

The story I just read said that paramedics at the scene are reporting treating people for "shrapnel-like wounds." No word on what the explosions were, but the reports are that there were two explosions from two different places in the arena.

There is video of the sound of the first explosion. It was heard blocks away. Probably not a speaker popping.

If it was production related it was likely a pyro accident, not sound.

Very possible. The stories I have read said they were not checking bags as people went into the show. Someone could have easily dropped a bag in or near a speaker or near the stage.

Here?s a summary of what we know so far after the incident in Manchester this evening:

Police have confirmed that at least 19 people have been killed in a suspected terror attack at an Ariana Grande concert at Manchester Arena.
Officers said a further 50 were injured.
One explosion was reported to have hit the foyer of the building at about 10:30pm, British Transport police said.
Manchester Arena said the incident took place ?outside the venue in a public space?.
Multiple witnesses said they heard an explosion, with one telling the Guardian the blast shook the building.
