Yup and aquanet was bringing on an ice age, and the forest and soil was all going to end up in the ocean, and acid rain was going to burn off our skin and turn the ocean into a dead waste land, and kill all the trees, and we were all going to burn up and get cancer from the hole in the ozone layer and.... blah blah blah fucking blah.

Another "disaster" another string of government grants to study it. Duh. :1orglaugh

Some people never learn. Not just government grants but government taxes and the lose of sovereignty.

Of course not when the facts where there that the earth is starting to cool they change it to "climate change".

Global warming is a bunch of BS.

BlackCrayon 11-18-2008 07:26 PM

Hot damn. This is just proof that we can do anything we want and have zero effect on the earth. Awesome.

pocketkangaroo 11-18-2008 07:27 PM

So all the scientists are wrong? The guys who believe the Earth is 6,000 years old are right?

Who'd have thunk it?!

Nope they are never wrong. Scientists are outstandingly accurate. ESPECIALLY when it comes to predicting devastating earth disasters... They are even more accurate when it involves billions in grant money every year. It appears that if they don't have something to "study" they don't get that money. Curious ain't it? :1orglaugh

There are billions of dollars in grant money used to study cancer. Is that all made up too?

What a stupid reply.

It's not that people die and we then hypothesize that "Oh, it must be cancer!". Cancer is a fact, we can actually document it, look at it, remove it, kill it, study it.

Global Warming, or rather Global Climate Change as it's now called, is a theory. The Earth's temperature is cyclic. It has been much hotter than it is now, and it has been cooler too. When the ice receded at the end of the last ice age, was that global warming too? I mean, things got warmer right?

By your logic, the fact that Billions of dollars are spent studying the bible must make it the word of God. Amen brother!

That's what I thought! Cancer is a hoax! :thumbsup

Truthfully, I don't really have an opinion on Global Warming. I'm not a scientist and don't research it much. I trust the opinion of the overwhelming majority of scientists across the globe though. I guess I have more faith in them than those who believe this was reality.

He is the one that stated that since scientists received grants for it, it must be a hoax. I simply asked if this was the case for other scientific research that receives a lot of money in grants. You can replace cancer with any other scientific field that takes in research money if you like.

I have no opinion on global warming. I just think it's silly to call every scientist who takes research money a fraud.

You don't have to believe in god and the bible to believe that mankind really doesn't know much yet about climate conditions on Earth. One has nothign to do with the other.

The "majority of scientists" have been wrong before, like when the general consesus was we were headed for another ice age. That was only 20 years ago and now we've done a complete 180.

Find me a scientist that can accurately predict the weather two months from now and I'll be more inclined to believe his 10 and 20 year predictions.

Besides, by your own words something being studied necessarily makes it true. Probably more is spent researching the bible and religion than on Cancer.

No, what he's trying to say, but too stupid to effectively communicate is that there is at least some reason why people might promote something they're not aboslutely sure about as being fact, and that's a financial incentive. It's more or less the counter argument for "why would scientists make this stuff up??".

I'm not convinced man contributes significantly to global temperature change. I'm more inclined to think things like the Sun have a much larger effect than we as a species do. I'm willing to admit I could well be wrong. I don't oppose more research, and I think we should absolutely do everything we can do to reduce our footprint on this planet, in every sense. I'm dead against bullshit like carbon taxes though.

I agree with you. We don't know much about climate conditions on Earth. I thought that was the whole reason we were researching them. To learn more about what is going on. Wouldn't those calling it a hoax fall into the same category as those saying it is happening? Both sides claiming to know the answer to something they don't have enough evidence on.

And as a matter of fact, how come your graph is missing data from January 2007 to January 2008? Could that be because by all indications the Earth got cooler during that period?

So if the Earth got globally cooler, is it still global warming? No, global climate change now, right?

I'm ready to announce an astounding scientific discovery: The temperature on earth fluctuates!!!

I am simply saying that if they disprove their theory they lose their livelyhood. Its in their best interest to keep it going. People DIE from cancer we know its fact. I love all the strawman arguments lol

No, but the ones disputing it the most come from the far right. They are also the ones that make up a huge number of the young Earth creationists in this country. Taking science advice from them is like taking stock tips from a psychic.

If they cure cancer tomorrow, they would lose research money too. Are all the scientists in the world collaborating to keep the cure under wraps?

You're going into the argument by stating that if someone has a financial incentive, they must have evil intentions. Most scientists, particularly in this field, don't make a lot of money doing this kind of research. They do it for the love of science. If it was about money, they would be in a field of science that paid big bucks in the private sector. Not diddling around college campuses begging for grants.

BlackCrayon 11-18-2008 08:10 PM

It doesn't matter if global warming is "real" or not. We should still be taking steps to reduce emissions and put more money into clean power/fuel technology.

If large car companies can use propaganda, lie, buy out the comp to keep the electric car from being made. Why would not big pharm do the same to keep real cures under raps?

I dont believe man made global warming is real, but I am putting in solar powered heaters into my rental property. :thumbsup

But the problem comes when the government gets involved and wants to tax and take rights away in the name of global freezing, warming, rain forests, marsh lands and so on.

Maybe you should look into the global ban on CFC's that actually slowed the Ozone hole before you spew more BS about crap you have no clue about. Sounds like you have been listening to more right wing radio talk show BS.

Then again what else is new, if it wasn't for 10 second sound bites you wouldn't have anything to say.

There was a story, not sure if it's true or not about some guys in Canada who actually found a cure for cancer but they made it so cheap (no patent so anyone could make it, ie. generic) that no pharm company wants it, cuz there is no profit.

The drug is called dichloroacetate (DCA)
