Evil Chris 09-27-2009 08:27 PM

I was wondering how the show was going too.

Where is JFK and his advance pictures?

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 03:58 AM

it was a good show.

Thumb Lord is being a bit kind, but, having met the man at this show, I know it's his nature.

It was an OK show at best. A few panelists were late to speak on their own panel, no lights in the room while they were speaking, no pen / paper offered on tables during the seminars (Maybe I'm just used to Phoenix Forum?).

However, I did meet a handful of good people -- Thumb Lord being one -- so hopefully some business will follow.

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 04:56 AM

thanks for the kind words mr. watson, so yes it was sort of OK.
It was a pleasure to rescue you from either Danish Drunks and/or explaining the law on smoking outside and/or inside coffee shops :)

Pornopat 09-28-2009 05:00 AM

For me it was an excellent show.
Thumblord I have not recognised you. I know it has been like 5 years since we met and a lot of people look different now.

Matyko 09-28-2009 05:28 AM

it was nice... however i missed like half the people i wanted to meet finally, for example You Pornopat, and I was too wasted all the time, but next time I will do it smarter.. so see you all next year! :)

yeah on sunday my buddy Kees came to get me to say hello to you but I was busy in a meeting. When I was finally done we could not find you anymore.
Sorry I missed you dude!

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 05:38 AM

well yes I did only meet half of the people on my list, you Pornpat was one of them, but heh there is always next years Show.

No worries Sir, next time! :)
I've heard you won Pornopoly - is this true? :)))
I just a closer look to that game on Sunday, it had some funny event cards like 'hahaha bought your program, collect $200" :D

AdultEUhost 09-28-2009 08:32 AM

I agree, it was a good show !
Saw and spoke to a lot of friends, customers and new people !

MaDalton 09-28-2009 09:15 AM

just came home - i think it was a good show :)

spankmo 09-28-2009 09:25 AM

am sitting here wading through a ton of biz cards, paper, notes and whatever.. was a busy weekend for us. cheers

Sam Granger 09-28-2009 09:26 AM

Networking wise it was amazing, really enjoyed meeting Mike & Gerard from Webair, Lori, Jenni, ThumbLord, BillyWatson, notime, Claudio, Shaft and MaDalton to name a few. I'm still recovering from the partying and talking!

The seminars were so-so, I did learn a few things but the business I managed to do there made up for it.

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 10:08 AM

it was very nice talking to you Sam and your dutch is almost better then mine

notime 09-28-2009 10:50 AM

Show was really good in my opinion. I met many new people. It was good to see people again that I already know. Seminars had a few new interesting pieces of knowledge (or gave me ideas) next to the common well know same old same old and self promotion, which is ok, since people need to make money too :)

But most of all it was great fun. Some moments I laughed so hard that tears were rolling over my cheeks (ask MaDalton about Carlos)...;) hehe
When you spend some actual quality time with people, they open up and tell & ask much more then just a standard hand shake and a business card exchange.

@Thumblord: Wow, what a story you told me about your visit in the US where you ended up in the hospital. Glad you're still here amongst the living!

@Pornopat: I enjoyed our chat in the "LOUP" restaurant.

@MaDalton: Carlos did something I would refer too as a "classic" :) hehe

@Spankmo: I was sitting behind you in the mobile seminar and I saw you where getting really exited at some moments when the panel was talking about some details. At that moment I got a completely different opinion about you, which changed my wrong assesed prejudice I had before. The passion you have for mobile for SO radiant, it must be good! Good thing I have your card :) I'll contact you soon.

@Sam; Good seeing you again my friend. Looking forward to start our potential business.

For people having doubts the Amsterdam show, or any other show, I have a little secret to share:
-Any show is as good as you make it yourself
-Don't go to a show with result "expectations" or to get "hard orders/deals". Go open there with an open mind, just enjoy talking to people, gain knowlegde and have fun. The business results will follow automaticly after this show (or the next, or the one after that, etc.). It's about people. People make business, what ever the URL or business model is or wether it's big or small, old school or newbie.

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 11:16 AM

it was nice talking to you as well Jack will be in touch soon about some things

Martin 09-28-2009 12:00 PM

I'll be looking forward to that :thumbsup
Thanks for quality time. It came straight from your heart, I could tell.
Did you ever heard about the saying: "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger"?

Roald 09-28-2009 12:07 PM

I was actually a bit surprised it turned out this well!

Me too.

The turn out was much larger than I anticipated. The mix of people was good. Still too many billing companies. But, such is life! (NB Maybe make billers pay 4 times as much as the rest of us, like the 'talent' pass being cheaper).

I certainly made enough new deals to warrant going. Some great new members' areas upsells, some preferential treatment for some feeds and some new potential for me helping people with their email marketing.

It didn't rain, Barney's had a new strain, and my non-industry ladyfriend had a blast.

All good.

Thanks Eric and all for sorting it!

PS Any jazz fans *have* to check out the 'alto' club next year. Went last night and it was damn damn good. Oldest Jazz club in Amsterdam.

Just saw you in a flash Roald while you were in a busy meeting and I did not want to disturb you. Hope to speak to you next time or at the next show.

I agree the show was better then I expected.
Over 500 people were there and some Dutch guys from the industry would pop in here and there too on some days.

Janh 09-28-2009 02:20 PM

It was a great show.

ThumbLord 09-28-2009 02:52 PM

Hi Jan, have not spoken with you I think but got your card somehow, from Jack I think, but not sure, will be in touch but have to wade through tons of cards/ideas and stuff.

katharos 09-28-2009 05:15 PM

i know it was boring as hell ... i drunked myself so much night before so i forgot to wake for my train ... i am sorry to all fans but lets make a party next year! :thumbsup

Tasty1 09-28-2009 07:21 PM

Great show and a lot of interesting people.
I i've learned again by just talking and listening while drinking a beer.
And it is always fun talking and drinking with Jack till the morning.
Jan was to busy this time to spent a lot of time drinking, but Nicolas represented ero-advertising well.

It look liked a lot of people went to the Bananabar saturday, but the hotel bar was reopened after people came in at 3:00 Martin, i don't know if they get laid, but they must have had some fun.

Did PornoPat win the pornopoly game? I just read Hasbro has send an letter relating to copyrights to Lifestyle Amateurs?

Looking forward to Vegas.

Meeper 09-28-2009 10:33 PM

It was a great show for us!

Marie 09-29-2009 12:19 AM

I enjoyed it, haven't spent a lot of time at the show though.
I met some interesting people so it was kind of a good show. I can see how you guys found it a little boring...
The pornopoly game was nice. Congratulations Pat!

Yeah I won the finals :) Oystein won the first round on my table but he could not play the finals. We decided to let me play and split the money if I won.

Yes I did and yes Lifestyle amateurs did get a letter like this. They reached a settlement very fast and Lifestyle Amateurs now has the official right to Pornopoly....

Thanks again for your honesty on the other table. I was looking for you to buy you lots of beer but did not find you. Next time though..:)

onlytease 09-29-2009 01:31 AM

Was a good show and very enjoyable :)

baddog 09-29-2009 02:35 AM

We thought it was a good show. It was pretty obvious that lots of business was being done.

Did not go to the seminars, so can't speak for that.

Jeppe 09-29-2009 03:55 AM

Great show for us - we got a lot of new ideas and potential deals set up. Best show for us so far.

Congrats on the win! :)

We did in fact receive a C&D letter from Hasbro, but negotiated a deal where we could do the tournament as a one-off event, and there's not going to be one next year, that's for sure. So to the guys who got one of boards; hang on to it :pimp

SZNY 09-29-2009 04:05 AM

It was a great show, was good to meet new people and having some good talk with industry friends. Actually I was surprised that it was so more busy compared with previous years and that everyone is open minded to do business.

Too bad I was there only 1.5 days but also needed to see my family and kids after a long time. Now I'm back in Czech Republic but kinda miss Amsterdam already.

Exoclick 09-29-2009 05:21 AM

We had a great show. We met a lot of people, exchanged a lot of business cards and good conversations. Now the hard part is to do the follow ups.

@Spankmo : I must agree with Jack, I saw you really wanted to get a microphone :) You should be a speaker next time. See you soon in Castefa!

@Maria : Next time be more at the show, except for the 69Cash girls, it was too many guys and not enough girls around. But I guess that's always like that.

The best for me :

* The Speed networking sessions and networking in general.
* Some of the conferences.
* All the Belgian beer I drunk! I was so missing it.
* 3 sunny days in Amsterdam, it's a really nice city.

I will second this. Hotel lobby was the place to have a beer, chat and get some business done.

ROI is obvious on this event.

Congrats to Eric and his team for putting out a fantastic show.
