I am so proud of my son - his first recorded music
Hi guys and gals, I want to share with you what my 16 year old son recorded today with his dad in the studio. he wrote and sang/rapped all of the lyrics, and him and his dad went into their studio this afternoon and a little while later this is what came out of him....
His first tunes Keep in mind he is 16 and this was his first ever recording. He creates his music on the computer using programs he finds for that sort of thing. I am old school, instruments and such, but HIS instrument is his computer. He also did his own backup vocals. This is ALL him. |
sounds good actually. better than 95% of humanity. do it.

Home schooooloed!!!!

My first thought before clicking was "oh, god, this is mostly likely going to really suck and I am not going to post anything because I don't want to be mean." Kind of like right before someone shows you a picture of their baby and you pray its not ugly.
Then I hit play and was pleasantly surprised. The music is great. The lyrics are great. He could improve some on the vocals but that comes in time and everything is tweaked so much these days that most people probably sound like that before going through pro tools and such. That and at 16 our voices are going through change -- poor Justin Bieber. |
Your son has a potty mouth.
Beats are good but vocals need a lot of work. Overall, not bad for a first time recording. |

Having said that, thank you for such a kind thing to say. His vocals will improve, this was his first time ever doing anything like this and with his dad in the next room recording it and his use of some choice words, I think he was extremely nervous. But I told him before he went in, don't worry about the choice of words, we all know how the game is played and if that is what goes there then it just does. Even at that though, I think his nerves were eating a little at him. Thanks guys.. I just had to share it with you, I know there are a lot of musicians here that would appreciate what he is doing.... even if it isn't your style of music, you have to appreciate the talent. And yes, this child is home schooled. lol |

His vocals will improve once the nerves are gone, I think. I've heard him in his room when he thinks no one is listening. lol |
You know, come to think of it, he did sound nervous ... I couldn't place what it sounded like until you mentioned it.

Oh and if I drop acid. Well, I think I can dance while tripping but would I really know? The mirror always ended up melting when I watched myself. |

Not to bring your personal life to public...But....The way you mention "his dad" makes me wonder about you and Jimmy. |

I heard the nerves right away, that's why I knew what you were talking about. He was so worried if he said the word fuck something would come flying across the room at his head, or you would have thought that. lmao |
The music is really good, he needs to turn up the volume on the vocals but not bad at all.

Glad to hear it. I was a little worried for a moment there. |
Ohh i miss our 1 hour phone conversations LMAO
(And no its not dirty you pervs) What i dont miss though is the phone bills from calling from europe at that time OUCH |

My use of "his dad' simply meant his dad is helping, I am not musically inclined. lol Loch... I know, me too. Too bad we didn't have skype back then, right? lmao |
I liked it.

Sounds a lot like early Eminem stuff with a little Snoop inspiration. The beats are innovative to say the least, the lyrics are mindblowing and the vocals leave nothing to be desired. Your son is going to be a rap superstar, Tam.

Not bad at all. You need to up the levels on the vocals in the first track, he gets drowned out a little.
He needs to develop more attitude :) |
You did something right with that boy Tam... I'm proud of you both!
|
Wasn't bad at all, but now that you mention it he does sound really nervous.

I think once he is comfortable that his dad isn't going to freak out when he hears the lyrics, he'll be fine with that. This is COMPLETELY new to both of them, working together and so on. His dad HATES Rap Music with a passion... but he's learning as he goes as well. Thanks, Winston.. and everyone else. :thumbsup |
Congrats, really, happy and proud because your son does something he likes and does it well, must be a great feeling!
|
good work, now he needs just smoke few tons of ganja to become a real rapper! :)
|
It's a good start...
|
Congrats Tam :thumbsup

Thanks again guys, he hasn't seen or been told of any of your comments yet, he is with his best friend writing, but I am seriously going to pass this along to him. Thanks so much for your kindness and at least taking the time to listen to his work. |
you should be very proud.
|
what was he talking about ? I thought it was really groovy
|
Set up a battle with mindwaste.
|
I used to own a Record Label, that first track is hot. Could use a little adjusting but I give it a 7 out of 10. Imma Do This Right
Nice job, |

He's actually been talking to some Rapper, says he is famous, but I couldn't tell you who it was right now... the guy has been taking his own time to talk to him though and giving him pointers and tips, via email and said if he came up with something he thought would sell, he'd work with him. So that is what is driving him right at the moment.... he is definitely taking the initiative, which is what I am so proud of him for. And he is doing it on his own... he asked me if he emailed some of them if I thought they'd email him back and all I said was "You won't know unless you try, and all they can do is ignore you or tell you to go fuck yourself" so he ran with it. lol He wants to get a better recording before doing that, one where he isn't so damn nervous. And now he wants to all but LIVE in that studio. which is keeping him home and sage, so I am all about that. lol |
hmmm,, sounds good !

Just tell him to go a little more aggro with his vocals. :2 cents: Sounds good. |
I'm no longer a big fan of HipHop/Rap, but the composition was very good. What's he using to make the beats, Ableton? There are some tweaks he can do to make the bass pop out more, an excellent first time.
Please tell him great job, and he's only gonna get better! |

The speaker setup he has now doesn't leave much in the areas of bass and other such needed things for this genre, but we're working on all of that. :) |
not to rain on the parade, but nowadays its easy as pie to make a track with the software they have out now. My 15 year old nephew makes beats just like this one. It has piano and shit all in them like your sons, and i was like "damn is that you playing the piano" and he was like "nah, its part of the software". I guess maybe it takes a bit of skill, but most software programs now even for djs, match the beats for you. I mean i wish we had this technology when I was growing up, but still, when you can make a "track" in 30 minutes with software, it just seems sort of "generic".

So don't think you are offending anyone, you aren't, I totally get what you are saying. but he does write his own and he did write and sing the lyrics and put the beats together. This just isn't his best work, just his FIRST work. ;) |
