"toys in the attic" holds up as a great album to any generation, I don't care what anyone says, that album deserves credit for great song writing, solid riffs, and tunes that made you want to ball and party like a rockstar. If you became a fan of them based on that then you have no reason to be ashamed.

If you started listening in the 90s well then you are right to feel confused.

"Rocks" holds up too. Other than that their body of work is spotty at best. But the same can be said for Zeppelin, Van Halen or any iconic crotch rock band

I remember buying "Pump" when I first came to Panama, over 20 years ago. Memories! That album rocked, it rolled, then it rocked some more! I lost them after "Nine Lives" though.
