true story: a friend of a friend of mine used to run a pretty larger server to supply movies and content. you had to pay a monthly premium and you could download as much as you want.

turns out he got busted and got shafted pretty hard. big fines and did some jail time. wife left him and took his kids. lost his house and his parents wouldnt let him move back in with them.

never was worth it IMO to go through that, so since then Ive always purchased what I wanted. probably spent $1,000's in iTunes and on movies but at the end of the day, I can sleep at night

Incorrect, that free music was being paid for by the radio station with each song played. The torrent has not paid a royalty for the music they distribute.

Except once you "use the torrent to listen to music like a radio", there is no reason to go out and purchase it since you already have a copy of it that is indistinguishable from the retail version, other than some packaging.

I used to record songs off the radio when I was a kid, but would eventually buy the real cassette since it sounded better and was more convenient, etc. No reason to do that anymore with lossless digital copies.

that the percentage of people who were given the song and were convinced to buy a song (including in many cases the song they already got) because of a reason you believe doesn't exist.

i was under the impression cds had way better sound quality than mp3/mp4? owning something via mp3 is no comparison to having it on disk

but these were UNKNOWN artist so that shift is minimal at best.

2. you don't know how to pull the logs off public trackers

3. your too stupid to realize that while an ip address is not a person, it can be counted

4. sales can be counted

FLAC and other lossless formats are basically indistinguishable from the original CD. Although it is true a lot of people still download lossy MP3s. But I honestly can't tell too much of a difference between 320 kb MP3's and a CD on fairly decent audio equipment. I am getting older though and did a lot of damage to my ears playing drums when I was a kid.
