Anyone here preparing for a financial meltdown? - Page 3 - GoFuckYourself.com

Several ammo boxes full of 9MM, .44 Mag, .308, 30/30, and shot gun shells. After that a compound bow, 6 months of dry pack food, tents, sleeping bags, water filters, cook stoves, gallons of white gas, fishing gear, first aid supplies, etc. everything i would need to live anywhere i need for at least 6 months.

Things go down, I load up the car and camping trailer and off we go, self sustained and off the grid.

I have several friends who are prepared the same and we have a meeting point and destination plan. For me, all the savings in the world aint gonna help you when the currency systems collapse and the only things people are going to want to buy with gold, I will already have.

If the world ever did have a huge financial collapse your gold and silver will be just as useless as paper money. The people with supplies, food and water and means to protect it will be the new millionaires. People will trade for food and living supplies. No one will care how big their gold collection is but how big their stockpile of food, solar equipment, other mechanical equipment used to make energy or fuel, food, everyday supplies, firearms, etc.

Ok so what people are posting here are items that are a good investment for survival in worst case situations. Food, water, ammo, weapons etc. The problem is if nothing bad happens and you invested thousands in these items then you lose bigtime. There has to be something you can invest in now that will not depreciate and you can get your money back plus some profit in either situation. Weapons and ammo sounds safer than food and water. Even long shelf life food loses its value as it ages. I'm thinking if silver goes below $30 it might be worth it to buy a few pounds.

Hi Paul, I shot Expert both with Pistol and Rifle. And training nowadays has us shooting at targets that silhouette a human being. You are absolutely right that pulling the trigger to take a life is hard. But I'm pretty sure by the fucked up state of our Veterans coming back from combat theater that we've got that part done pretty well.

Everyone talking about guns and weapons, which is great, but if a worst case scenario happens, as it sounds many are planning for, where is your water source? How many days/weeks/months is your food supply? Do you have antibiotics? Is your house already secure or are you just going to wait until zombies beat your door down? You going it alone like Rambo or do do you have a plan with your neighbors?

Between this and magicmike's comment, the concern Paul has is invalid. Pulling the trigger the first time might be hard, but when you consider that we have see so much more gore and violence because of access to media and the internet, the butterflies in your stomach wouldn't be there very long.

The problem is the odds are the guys coming at you have less to lose and more to gain than those they're going after. Imagine a bunch of guys from the "hood" also armed to the teeth, coming after you.

During the great depression the fastest mode of communication was a telegram. Look at what happened in 2008. Over the weekend how many banks failed? How fast did the stock market crash and real estate price drop? And look at what just happened in the middle east. Thing's move much faster now. America is in a decline and it's a lot faster than most care to recongnize.

But yeah short of a planet wide natural disaster the Mad Max scenario is just plain silly. But I think things could go to shit overnight. Gas prices could double, the stock market could crash totally in a 24 hour period. We live in a age where all information is instant and that means we make decisions instantly. Mass selling off of stocks and bonds would totally ruin the worlds economy.

I lived through it with Katrina. While it didn't affect the entire country, only a small portion of it, and it didn't happen for a long period of time... You did have a 1st world country turn into mad max over a span of 2-3 days. Just a small example of what could happen on a larger scale.

Things that could cause "mad max" type conditions would not be financially related but more likely from weather, disease (biological), nuclear (war) etc... In the past 2,000 years all of the above have caused 1st world countries to experience long periods of time where there was chaos and every man for himself.

The problem with this thread (besides the typical GFY of everyone thinking they know everything about everything) is that you have several different people talking about different things.

After that a compound bow, 6 months of dry pack food, tents, sleeping bags, water filters, cook stoves, gallons of white gas, fishing gear, first aid supplies, etc. everything i would need to live anywhere i need for at least 6 months. Things go down, I load up the car and camping trailer and off we go, self sustained and off the grid. I have several friends who are prepared the same and we have a meeting point and destination plan. Food, water, ammo, weapons etc. The problem is if nothing bad happens and you invested thousands in these items then you lose bigtime. There has to be something you can invest in now that will not depreciate and you can get your money back plus some profit in either situation. Weapons and ammo sounds safer than food and water. Even long shelf life food loses its value as it ages. If America collapses, it will be a long, slow decline over years and decades. It won't suddenly go to hell with people trading seeds as currency. Britain, France, Spain, those were all super powers at one time and they simply faded into being regular countries. They aren't wastelands filled with gun toting criminals, in fact, many people argue that those countries are better than America. But it's the long slow decline that you should be fearing. Road warrior is mostly male fantasy. It's kinda pleasant to imagine a social order in which we can be ferocious males again. Fuck, I sure enjoy that fantasy well enough myself. The long slow decline will be far more humiliating. With very few oppurtunities to be glory-seeking ferocious males. Still, buy guns and tools anyway. Well, technically, you shoulda bought them long ago, because you'd have to have been pretty fucking suburban not to have seen this coming for years.
