Republicans Want to Raise Taxes on the Lower and Middle Class

Quote:
America?s presumably anti-tax party wants to raise your taxes. Come January, the Republicans plan to raise the taxes of anyone who earns $50,000 a year by $1,000, and anyone who makes $100,000 by $2,000.

Their tax hike doesn?t apply to income from investments. It doesn?t apply to any wage income in excess of $106,800 a year. It?s the payroll tax that they want to raise ? to 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent of your paycheck, a level established for one year in December?s budget deal at Democrats? insistence. Unlike the capital gains tax, or the low tax rates for the rich included in the Bush tax cuts, or the carried interest tax for hedge fund operators (which is just 15 percent), the payroll tax chiefly hits the middle class and the working poor

I thought if you let something expire its not a tax increase? j/k

Not all Republicans are for this (like Ron Paul). Mostly neocons for it.

It would make sense that anyone that makes under $20,000 a year should be exempt from taxes, and the more your income is, the more of a percentage you'd have to pay.

But that makes too much sense.

So you are saying that a "rich" person has less of a right to their property than a "poor" person?

So you are proposing that nothing changes. Currently, the first $9,000 or more is no. subject to income tax sure to the standard deduction and personal exemption. Through in the earned income credit and/or other credits and many people in the $20,000 range pay negative taxes. That is, their "refund" is more than their withholding. Overall, 51% of Americans pay zero net income tax or less. See:
http://m.theatlantic.com/business/archive/2011/05/51-of-americans-pay-no-federal-income-taxes/238329/

That's why it's impossible to cut taxes on people making less than $15,000.
Since already they pay no taxes, you can't reduce their income tax any further.
Hence, any reduction in tax rates primarily affects directly those who pay taxes, what Obama calls "the rich".

I do not understand how letting a tax cut expire equates to raising taxes today anymore than I did a few years back when the Republicans were throwing a shit fit about it.

Funny how Republicans claim to be for small government. Unless it's messing with your rights as a human being, then it's ok to have government breathing down your neck. The only time they really want small government is when it comes to private companies.

It should be smaller gov across the board. I do not agree with the positions of most major Republicans or Democrats.

anyway, isn't this article just saying tptb are restoring a previous payroll deduction cut?

so instead of 4.2% is now 6.2%, or what it should be

the problem is that any tax increases are not going to go towards decreasing the deficit, they will go to increased spending..

Why does that make sense? Why should a dumbass making 19,000 not have to pay any tax and yet still get every benefit?

How about EVERYBODY pay 10%. NO deductions allowed.

The 20,000 guy pays $2,000 in taxes. The 2 MILLION dollar guy pays $200,000 in taxes
The BILLION dollar guy pays 100 MILLION dollars in taxes.

No deductions, no b.s., no "special favors" Everyone pays equally and everyone benefits equally.

That Billion dollar guy is probably paying the same as the $20,000 guy with todays tax code: ZERO

If EVERYONE paid the same percentage we would have more than enough revenue. And there would never be any "tax hikes" or "tax breaks".

Because I work harder, smarter, luckier, I should pay more? WTF

If anything, taxes should be the same, if you make $5 or you make $5billion.

You all pay X %. No deductions, just a flat tax.

Why is it the rich's fault that the poor fail?
Why is it the rich's responsibility to waste money on the poor?
You're poor for a reason and it has nothing to do with anyone but yourself

yup as I watch democrats raise every fee imaginable from dog licenses to car titles, but that doesn't count because they don't refer to it as a tax right? $75 for a car title in my state, i know printer ink isnt cheap but come the fuck on!

Grow up, BOTH parties are out to screw you out of as much money as possible without pushing it so hard as to cause a revolt!
