Shame to say, but that inability to grasp the reality of his situation followed Charlie Sheen into real life.

The show was about a down on his luck everyman; a pussy-whipped geek (Jon Cryer). He had to move in with his superficial, unjustifiaby wealthy brother after his marraige broke down. The show was never about Charlie Sheen -but by sheer strength of personality, Charlie Sheen took it over.

It IS Jon Cryer's show. I did not have the chance to watch it tonight, but I hope Ashton can fill Charlie's shoes. I like that guy - but I've been watching Charlie Sheen for over 30 years. I may be biased.

In summation: Two and a Half Men is Jon Cryer's show. That is not a bad thing. Ducky!!!

Jon Cryer is good, BUT he's not interesting enough to carry the show and although I kinda like Ashton's kinda stupid'ish character persona, which he does well in "That 70s Show" and "Dude, Where's My Car", I'm just not sure if both of them together will be able to carry the show. I do think it's kinda stupid how they have him as a billionaire because he sold a domain to Microsoft, it doesn't make sense.

I never watched the show when it was in primetime but I've been watching reruns now that its in a time slot where I sit in front of the TV. I like the show and I think its written well. I've always wondered if Charlie had a hand in casting because every hot A, B, C, D, list actress has been on the show.

It really sucks to lose Charlie but I think the new show did an adequate job of writing him out. I'm willing to give Ashton a chance to try and fill the void and let the show go in a slightly different direction. It probably won't be as good but still worth watching.

I'm more concerned with the kid character. Catching up with reruns its easy to see the kid was much funnier the younger he was. I don't see him adding as much to the household dynamic as he did in earlier episodes. Perhaps they could send him off to college and write in a kid from Ashton't past.

I'd say the show has already peaked but they just might get by with enough to make it salvageable.
