A person identified as confidential witness No. 1 said Vick placed pets in the ring against pit bulls owned by ?Bad Newz Kennels? at least twice and watched as the pit bulls ?caused major injuries.?

The witness said Vick and co-defendants Purnell Peace and Quanis Phillips ?thought it was funny to watch the pit bull dogs belonging to Bad Newz Kennels injure or kill the other dogs.?

Vick was administered a polygraph test by the FBI in October 2007 and denied taking part in the killing of dogs in mid-April. When told he had failed that part of the test, Vick recanted his story and admitted to helping hang six to eight underperforming dogs.

The dogs were killed by shooting, hanging, electrocution and drowning, and in at least one instance, according to one of the witnesses, when Vick and Phillips killed a red pit bull by ?slamming it to the ground several times before it died, breaking the dog?s back or neck.?

According to the report, the three men hung the dogs ?by placing a nylon cord over a 2 X 4 that was nailed to two trees located next to the big shed. They also drowned approximately three dogs by putting the dogs? heads in a five gallon bucket of water.?
I hope that Michael Vick truly has been rehabilitated, given the nature of the brutally inhumane and heinous crimes he was involved in and responsible for. Personally, I wish he would have been banned from football. I say let him prove himself rehabilitated in a more humble way, such as working at an animal shelter.

He did his time leave the man alone. He went to jail for what he did, paid his dues. He's a great quarterback.

I wasn't really trying to make fun of Vick just thought that picture was funny. I was poking fun at all the Eagles fans (and media) that declared them as the "dream team" and the super winners before the season started.

When I first saw the thread title, I was coming here to actually talk football, since I was the one who posted the "Eagles will win the Superbowl" thread a few months back.

But since it's turned into a Vick hatefest based on the heinous actions he did commit, then served 21 months in prison for, I'll discuss the hypocrisy demonstrated by most football fans who's only response to the Eagles/Vick is the dogfighting issue.

First, let me say that I am a dog lover. We have several dogs of our own, and I consider them members of my family, not just pets. I find what Michael Vick did to be dispicable, deplorable and disgusting. That being said, Vick served 21 months in federal prison, followed by two months of home confinement for his involvement in dog-fighting and money laundering related to the operations of Bad Newz Kennelz. He was also suspended from the NFL from August 2007 until September 2009. I'm a firm believer in allowing those who serve their punishment to have a second chance at life. If he were to screw up again, let him rot. And for those who mentioned that he should have to work at an animal shelter, I do know that he does work with the humane society on a regular basis. Whether it's actually in a shelter or not, I do not know.

I don't want to make excuses for Vick's criminal acts, but in the context of this discussion, it should be noted that in many cultures, dog fighting is normal. It once was actually sanctioned and promoted in the U.S. as well. Regardless, it doesn't take away the fact that he did commit some atrocious crimes with those dogs.

Now, let's take a look at some other active players in the NFL, who never seem to get any grief from NFL fans.

Donte Stalworth:
Quote:
Stallworth was charged with DUI and second degree manslaughter on April 1, 2009; he surrendered to police on April 2, 2009, and was released on $200,000 bail. He pled guilty, and received a sentence of 30 days in jail, plus 1,000 hours of community service, 2 years of house arrest, and 8 years probation. He has also received a life-time suspension of his Florida state driver's license.

On July 10, 2009, Stallworth was released from jail after serving 24 days of a 30-day sentence.
A 30 day sentence for killing a HUMAN BEING while driving drunk, of which he only served 24 days.

Ray Lewis:
Quote:
Following a Super Bowl XXXIV party in Atlanta on January 31, 2000, a fight broke out between Lewis and another group of people, resulting in the stabbing deaths of Jacinth Baker and Richard Lollar. Lewis and two companions, Reginald Oakley and Joseph Sweeting, were questioned by Atlanta police, and eleven days later the three men were indicted on murder and aggravated assault charges. The white suit Lewis was wearing the night of the killings has never been found. Fulton County District Attorney Paul Howard alleged that the bloodstained suit was dumped in a garbage bin outside a fast food restaurant.

Lewis claimed that the prosecution knew he was not involved in the murder but chose to go ahead with the case anyway, saying "You don't care if I'm guilty or not. You gonna make sure I go to jail for life." Lewis' attorneys, Don Samuel and Ed Garland, of the Atlanta law firm Garland, Samuel & Loeb, negotiated a plea agreement with Howard, the Fulton County District Attorney, where the murder charges against Lewis were dismissed in exchange for his testimony against Oakley and Sweeting, and his guilty plea to a misdemeanor charge of obstruction of justice. Lewis admitted that he gave a misleading statement to police on the morning after the killings. Superior Court Judge Alice D. Bonner sentenced Lewis to 12 months' probation, the maximum sentence for a first-time offender; and he was fined US$250,000 by the NFL, which was believed to be the highest fine levied against an NFL player for an infraction not involving substance abuse. Under the terms of the sentence, Lewis could not use drugs or alcohol during the duration of the probation.

On April 29, 2004, Lewis reached a settlement with four-year-old India Lollar, born months after the death of her father Richard, preempting a scheduled civil proceeding.
Obviously involved in the stabbing deaths of two people. Took a plea to avoid being charged with murder. Settled a civil suit with a victim's family, which essentially acknowledges that if gone to civil trial, there would be enough evidence to find him guilty of the wrongful death.

Paul Hubbard:
Bills receiver Paul Hubbard arrested for DWI after vehicle hits officer

Cedric Benson:
Bengals RB Cedric Benson is arrested for assault causing bodily injury to a family member.

Akeen Jordan:
Eagles LB Akeem Jordan is arrested for assault and battery.

Garret Wolfe:
Bears RB Garrett Wolfe is arrested on charges of retail theft, disorderly conduct, assault of a police officer, and resisting arrest with violence.

Aqib Talib:
Buccaneers CB Aqib Talib is arrested for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

Chris Cook:
Vikings CB Chris Cook busted for brandishing a handgun

Brandon Mariweather:
Patriots safety Brandon Meriweather allegedly fired a shot that hit two men.

Albert Haynesworth:
Redskins lineman Albert "Helmet Stomper" Haynesworth accused of punching motorist. Yes, this is the same guy that illegally used his brother's handicapped parking permit, paralyzed a Tennessee motorist while driving his Ferrari at speeds in excess of 100mph, stomped someone's helmet,

Everson Griffen:
Vikings DE Everson Griffen is arrested for felony battery.

Laurence Maroney:
Broncos running back Laurence Maroney has been arrested on weapons charges in St. Louis, according to KMOV-TV.

Perrish Cox:
Denver Broncos' rookie cornerback Perrish Cox on charges of sexual assault.

Will Smith:
New Orleans DE Will Smith Arrested, charged with domestic abuse battery after allegedly grabbing his wife by hair and pulling her down the street.

There's countless others who have been arrested for DUI (one on his 6th offense!), but I left them out. Although driving drunk is very dangerous and can be fatal, I left them off the list because someone will discredit the crime as not being as serious Vick's offenses. Something else to note, all of the players listed above have been implicated in crimes pertaining to HUMAN BEINGS, not animals.

The listings from Paul Hubbard on come from http://nflcrimes.blogspot.com/, where each listing has a news link to back up the statement. Additionally, they all are within the past year (the oldest listing is the Will Smith listing, which was posted November 27, 2010).

The Stalworth and Ray Lewis info was from Wikipedia.

My point here is that there are countless other players currently active in the NFL who have commited crimes just as severe (if not more) as what Vick did, yet none of those other players feel the wrath of hatred and negative talk as Vick does.

Can anyone who is hating on Vick explain to me why he gets your hatred, but yet none of these other players who have commited serious crimes against HUMAN BEINGS do not? I have my thoughts, but I'd really like to hear it from the haters.

You just don't get it do you?

The difference is they are animals who are innocent and he put them in harms way. To many people that is unforgivable.

Seeing as you like Wikipedia might be a good idea to read up on what a messed up puppy he really is. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael...investigations

And conveniently you left out Plaxico Buress who spent about 2 yrs in prison for firearms violations and when he gets out signs with the Jets for $3 mil, while Vick signs a 6 yr $100 mil with the Eagles.

As I said before the only thing he's sorry about is that he caught.

I agree with you. I think Vick did too much time. I love my dogs more than most people, but at the end of the day it was a dog. But I think what got Vick in the most trouble was that he lied about it and there were federal issues involved with the betting. I don't remember the case exactly but I know it wasn't just "animal cruelty" there was a lot of other components.

Never the less, at the same time his shit hit the fan Donte Stalworth and Plaxico Burress were in the news. Stalworth was drunk and killed someone, and Burress shot himself in the leg. Vick fought dogs and killed them. Lets see who got what:

Vick: 2 years - Fighting dogs and killing them.
Burress: 2 years - Breaks strict NYC gun laws and shots self in leg.
Stalworth: house arrest - drives drunk, hits a man and kills him.

That's fucked up IMO. Stalworth should have done 5-10 easy. Burress, some where around there or less and Vick should have gotten less.

So the guy that Stalworth hit and killed while he was drunk wasn't innocent? I guess he was asking for it?

The cop that Paul Hubbard hit with his car while driving drunk was asking for it, too.

Cedric Benson, well, his family member must have begged Cedric to physically assault him.

Garret Wolfe, the store was asking to be robbed, and the arresting office was begging to be assaulted.

The guy Haynesworth paralyzed while driving his Ferrari over 100mph, that's his own fault, he shouldn't have been driving on the same road as Fat Albert.

Perrish Cox's sexual assault victim must have had on too sexy of clothes. She was definitely asking for it.

What don't I get again? That all of these crimes had innocent victims? Oh wait, I don't think you get that. It seems to only apply when talking about Vick.

I read all of that on Wikipedia. And I ackowldeged that what he did was despicable, disgusting, deplorable and horrendous.

And Plaxico was an oversight because I was trying to do quick research. I did not intentionally leave him out.

Vick proved himself to the Eagles (both on the field and off) before getting a big contract. Plax hasn't yet. But who cares? Both served their time, and both should be allowed to do their jobs. I think the problem is most people are pissed that they are still good at what they do and are succeeding. Most of the other people I mentioned, nobody knows who they are, so no one gives a shit. But let a man succeed after paying his debt to society, fuck no.

I think Vick's a piece of shit, however ... My comments aren't about his dog fighting it's having someone with his attitude and poor judgement leading a team. A law breaking wide receiver or defensive back might be important but you don't make them the highest paid and central figure of the team.

Reid and management put their eggs in the wrong basket.

Reid and management put their eggs in the wrong basket.

.
They made a HUGE mistake by paying him that huge 100M contract, especially with 40M guaranteed.
1. He simply does not perform to the level to deserve that amount of money. The eagles were the only team to give him a second chance at football, period. He proved he can play, but not that in one years time he should jump up to being one of the highest paid players. He simply is not "that" good. He should be paid like a mid grad QB at best.
2. They should have never did the contract for so long, 5 years??? What if he gets hurt? They way he plays he will be lucky to make it through the rest of this season much less stay active for most of 5. I would have given him a 3 year, 20M at best, with like 5M guaranteed at best.

100M , 40M guaranteed, That's up there with Brady, Manning. Hell Brees has only made 60M the last 6 years and his contract they are renewing now likely wont be that much better than Vicks. How could they pay him so much. unbelievable. He is a good player but no where near worth the money they paid him.

Here is what other QBs are making around the league:

P. Manning: 16M
M. Vick: 14.4M
T. Brady: 13.2M
P. Rivers: 12.1M
D. Brees: 11.6M
A. Rodgers: 10.4M

All of the above QB's have played at an extremely high level and proved themselves over the last 5+ years. (All but Rivers has won a superbowl) Then here you have Vick, who plays most of last year pretty well, still not better than those other players. Yet, he gets a contract better than most. He is getting paid stupid like they pay 1st round draft picks stupid money. That fat contract will come back to haunt them and will kill this franchise for the next 3-5 years they will be mediocre at best. Not only did they sink all of their money into Vick (limiting them at other positions) but they also let go their 2 other good QBs... sorry getting Vince Young as a back up, (when he is healthy) just isn't going to cut it.
