An open letter to spammers.

The telemarketing industry is getting ready to be dealt a serious blow. Their uncontrolled greed got the best of them and now the government is going to stop them. Millions and millions of people will put their names in the national registry and $1000.00 files will be accessed if they are called. It's going to happen.

You spammers are doing the same thing - Like the telemarketers, a little was OK - people put up with it. But you ass holes are sending porn links to Grand Mothers - and sooner or later the government is going to step in and stop you.

And honestly, sincerely, without any doubt whatsoever, really really, none us want the government sticking their nose in this business. You are a shortsighted fools who should be discouraged at every turn. (....or taken out and shot.)

And that's what I think ~

I agree there needs to be 'some' regulation, as shit has gotten a BIT outta control....

...but I think the smarter move would be to just impose some reasonable guidelines that everyone could live with rather than purely outlaw it....

The only real reason it's such an issue is that it is free to complain.

And that's what I think ~

All that will do is put US marketers at a disadvantage to businesses beyond the reach of the US government. The US government hasn't absorbed the idea yet that the Internet doesn't belong to them and isn't under US jurisdiction. It can hassle US citizens, but after that it gets much harder.

Bullshit. Its an issue for quite a few reasons.

Spam costs anyone who has any type of internet presence due to the bandwidth it consumes. A good size NOC (Network Operating Center) pays thousands each month just from the bandwidth that spam consumes. Who do you think pays for this? Anyone who pays for webhosting.

Spam is a scam. It's pure and simple. The fake "unsubscribe" processes on 90% of the emails I get should be enough proof of that.

It wont go away though. I've said this before, but the only time the adult industry ever regulates is when it comes from an outside source.

A question of ethics I guess. Some people have no problems selling drugs. Some people don't have a problem with spamming kids email boxes. Its a dirty way to make a living, but its supported directly or indirectly by a lot of heavy hitters.

I think it's incredible that people haven't come up with a reasonable solution to shut spammers down for at least a little while. Maybe it's impossible, I don't know.

What if spam started getting catalogued, and a script was installed on mail servers that could better predict spam through a shared network-community thing? Similar to CloudMark.net, but if 100 people in the program say that an e-mail was spam, then the sender and random sentences of text were saved to be matched for future e-mails. Maybe it would be too much strain on the mail server, but if you had a second server maybe it would work. Would everyone buy a second server? nope, but I'm sure it costs the big companies enough that enough would do it.

That's just a worthless statement. I mean it's great that you try to filter out the crap in your kids emails, but you shouldnt have to be doing it. That's like saying you will taste every bit of food before your kids eat it to be sure it is safe for them to eat??...

Don't worry, the global government has a plan for email.

After all.. we need to protect ourselves and our email systems from all the terrorists that are are using email.

THey also need to get a new system in place to replace the dying USPS.... which is probably hurting pretty bad since Fedex, UPS & especially email came along.

Your right though -- spammers & terrorists are going to make the goverments takeover of the email system easy. They could probably easily get people to pass a law that would allow them to centralize & control the email systems by claiming that it would clean up "spam" and make the nation a safer place to live.

Then, if you want to spam, no problem. So long as you pay for the mailing - to the USemail service or whatever they will call it.

Exactly. You can block it if you want to. However you said people don't pay for any other type of spam. If 100,000 people sent me paper mail I would have to get a bigger P.O. Box to hold it. When a business gets a telemarketing call on their 800 number it costs them money. When a business gets a call from a telemarketer that isn't paid for by them, the wages your employee is paid to answer the phone comes out of your pocket. If you want to block spam you are free to do so. It doesn't bother spammers one bit being that you are the one that wouldn't buy anything to start with. Funny I get spammed with commercials on Cable TV that I paid for. HBO spams me with their own ads on a movie channel. By the way, they use my electricity to get it to me.
