Toshiba Core i3 L755-S5366, good enough for editing HD?

Saw this on the black friday list,

Toshiba core i3 L755-S5366.

Was looking for a good quick computer to edit HD video on that was cheap, anyone think this will stack up?

It's 6gb memory, 500 hard drive.

Absolutely, might not be the fastest but it's adequate.

I appreciate your reply like this in the other thread as well.

I guess I'm really talking about practicality via Rendering Time. I'm really just getting started on editing full hd with my hp dual core desktop... which is HD ready, but the rendering time seems awful slow.

Basically just looking for the ideal solution at a low price point.

No, it doesn't have to be the fastest.. but needs to be able to work at a decent enough speed for the price point.

Save yourself the headache. Spend a little and pickup an i7 with 16GB of Memory and a sata3 hard disk. The extra money you spend today will be saved 10 times more in the time that you save. And since you will do projects in less time, you may be able to afford the time to explore other ways to be more creative, making you better at your craft, letting you charge more for the work that you do.

Agreed! spend a little more, will save so much time on the long run. Gotta have optimal productivity right now just to keep in the biz!

Exactly as ********** said.
It's better to wait and get more money to buy better stuff.

I always prefer to wait with such shopping until I get more cash to buy better stuff.
I don't have money to buy shit and later pay again for better hardware, because the first one is not enough for my work.

I know I SHOULD probably save up and buy an i7, but there is a large price gap in between the two.

Speed and capability is a concern, but so is budget. I'm a "middle of the line" type of guy when it comes to gadgets.. Surely this should be enough to edit a few HD videos with decent rendering time?

As much as I would love to be, I am not a high production rate kind of guy.

I think there's a huge difference going I3 up to I5 ... anyone know for sure? I kind of thought it was I3=celery and then I5 and I7=good cpus? It should not cost enough more that you will really feel it, and should be well worth it.

Never mind, I guess the only real difference is that the i5/i7 mobile cpus will clock themselves up when needed.

Where do you see this for $400?

Sounds great but I can't find it at that price.

Is Acer and good though? I'm thinking of getting a Asus U56E-XR2. Because I'm using a netbook now and 2 hours to render a 3 min HD clip is frustrating.

That acer is $550,

but the HP is close at $430.. although it is sold out.

I knew that sounded too good to be true at $400.

Thanks Sandman, real cool of you.

Well,

atleast I'm getting some good info out of this thread.

Again, I need something to suit my needs, but not go over my needs really.

The i5 is a good option, as well as the A6-3400m.

Now lets see the cheapest price we can find on one of these bad boys.

Still haven't seen a A6-3400m for $400.

Thanks Zarathustra.

Haven't heard anything about Gateway in a while.. didn't even know they were still in business. Anyone have experience with them recently?

Another thing is hard drive speed.
It seems that most notebooks come with 5400 rpm drives, but there are more and more coming out with 7500rpm drives or solid state (which i assume would be good for video editing)

its worth checking tigerdirect.com as well

I was trying to edit HD on a dual core a few years ago.... couldn't even get the video to play on the time line smoothly. I have the i7 950/12gb ram on a machine and it's works great for HD. at some point you need to access the value of your time and aggravation tolerance against perceived cost. then you'll know what machine you need to editi HD with...

So what are the main aspects to look out for concerning editing HD?

1. Hard drive speed
2. Memory
3. Processing chip

???

Many thanks for this thread, I passed on the Toshiba because of it.. and am now looking at something bigger and better processing wise for the same amount of money.

Some times good deals are not that good.

sorry, the hard drive speed i was referring to is 7200 rpm which this Lenovo has-
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...Sku=T70-150045
now, if you add 8gig memory you now have a core i5 processor with 8 gig memory, 7200 rpm hard drive which should be quite enough to handle HD editing easily.

Cost - $624.98 which is bloody cheap for such a beast.

you can go up in price from there, but i would say 600 bucks is the lowest you are going to get those three factors you require-

.
