Ran into a rocking elderly couple today

It was a cold, clear, sunny day today. I decided to break out the mustang, put the top down and go for a drive. I had the radio on and AC/DC's Hell's Bells comes on so I crank it up. I pull up to a stoplight and this car pulls up next to me with an elderly couple in it. They are bobbing their heads and singing to something. The woman rolls down the passenger's window to brush a leaf off the side mirror and I can hear that they have the same station on and are rocking to AC/DC. I give her a thumbs up and as the light turns green she flashes me the rocker's devil horns and they drive off. It made my day.

Just imagining scene, made my day also nice. Cool story.
although it is too cold here to open top here, I can't stop listening to Juda's Priest these day, but people look at me strange when they hear it.

Be glad she didn't flash you elderly boobies instead. Unless you're into that sort of thing.

Once I had just parked my Jeep downtown and was putting money in the meter and a frail old lady that could've been in her eighties was parking a few spots ahead of me. She had the only spot under a tree. Prime parking on a hot summer day in Florida to keep her car cool until she returns. She did a fine job of parallel parking and as I walked by as she was getting out I said " You've got it made in the shade " and without skipping a beat she pointed her finger at me and said " and you're livin' large ". I got that same feeling you had today

When I was young I was never mean to the elderly but they certainly tried my patience. Then as I watched my Father grow old and the changes he went through I fully understood aging. Now I have the utmost respect for the elderly. I look at old age as a badge of honor given to someone that has faced all that life has presented them and have successfully made it out the other side.

It was cold here. About 45 degrees. I just cranked the heater up. From what I understand a lot of the old mustangs (mine is a 67) have heaters that don't work worth a damn, but the one in my car will dry your eyes out it blows so hard. So I had the top down, heat up and a coat on It was fun way to run a few errands today. . . got a few strange looks.

Sounds like it was a cool moment. I agree. I have never hated elderly people, I always liked and respected my grandparents and other elderly people, but then I moved into an apartment in my early 20's that was near about 5 big retirement centers and occasionally found them trying my patience. If you went to the grocery store and saw one of the buses from one of the centers parked out front you knew it was going to be an interesting trip because all the elderly were there doing their shopping. Still, it felt kind of cool seeing people in their 80's still out doing their thing and buying food and cooking for themselves instead of just giving up and letting people take care of them.

A friend of mine's grandpa died a few years ago. His grandma decided to sell the house and get a smaller place. My buddy and his wife went to help her pack. He finds about a dozen video tapes in the closet in the bedroom. He asks her if she knew what they were (they were unmarked) and if she wanted to keep them. Without missing a beat she said, "Oh, those are our pornos! Your grandpa and I used to enjoy them. You two should take them and have some fun with them. You might learn a few things."

He took them and said they are all vintage 70's big bush porn.

Who was the other guy that they had singing for them? I knew Rob left the band, but I wasn't aware that they got another singer and trudged on. Very rarely does that kind of thing actually work.

You do realize how long AC/DC has been around, right? Just how old were they? 50?

I'm just guessing but they looked to be well into their 60's and maybe older than that. I guess as long as AC/DC has been around this couple could have been in their 20's or 30's when they started listening to them.

I've always been nice to old people. Years back I rented a duplex and my downstairs neighbor was a single old lady that I never took the time to get to know. Then one day I watched as the EMT's wheeled her away because she fell and broke her hip.

Almost a year later I'd see her hobble to the city handicap short bus to do shopping and errands. So one day I knocked on her door and introduced myself and told her I was going to the market and if there was anything I could pick up for her.

After the second cup of coffee I soon discover this old lady was incredibly intelligent and well educated, almost to the point of being intimidating with her sharp intellect. She was from upstate NY and a true core liberal old school hippie with history.

Her and her now dead husband were one of the first to protest the American advisers in Vietnam in 1965, the Vietnam War, and later Nixon. She would organize huge student rallies as she also associated herself with many militant groups like the black panthers etc. In the end, she was so afraid of retribution from Nixon she moved to Mexico until he left office.

This old lady was the real deal and after viewing pictures and hours of conversations on these issues and the politics of today, I found myself rarely saying anything because I was totally mesmerized by this ladies stories/intellect as I always wanted to hear more. I actually looked forward every week to get her grocery list knowing I'll get an earful.

Anyway, I noticed she's always ask me for my list and the rewrite it with hers as we talked. She had that old school penmanship and it was actually hard to read. Then one day I asked her why she would rewrite my grocery list and she said because I was single and she was trying to get me a date.

This clever old Jewish lady was always 3 steps ahead because I'd ask cute women at the market if they could read something on the list, as the conversation ended with I am shopping for an old lady downstairs. It didn't take long because I met a wonderful women this way and a year later we were married.

Over the years this old lady never fully recovered from her hip surgery and was placed into a home by the state as her mind started to fade. I lost touch with her, but I'm still happily married to the same woman.

To this day, I'll always take time out of my day to help the elderly whenever possible and sometimes you get a good story/advice in exchange.
That is a cool story. You never know what that person you look past might be. When I was in grade school my science teacher also worked with the school music department. He played bass guitar. Turns out for several years when he was in his 20's he was part of Johnny Cash's touring band.
